Well let me happily disagree, as this band reminds me of Motorhead (sans ulmauts) which I'm sure you are already aware of is a thrash-esque NWOBHM band.NeutralDrow said:It reminded me a lot more of those bands than Slayer, Metallica, or Megadeth (the ones I see classified as thrash). Not Good said:I'm pretty sure that Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are NWOBHM and Deep Purple is classic. I don't remember saying anything about classic at all. How is my example classic?NeutralDrow said:Traditional heavy metal. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple...Not Good said:What is this "Classic" That you speak of?NeutralDrow said:Coulda sworn we were talking Thrash, not Classic...Not Good said:No. Preferably something in the 80s and by a band you might not have heard of.NeutralDrow said:<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgiLFsxMlb4>Better?Not Good said:I have a problem with this example.NeutralDrow said:<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eJZBnzc3Q8>Thrash metal.
Some examples.

I didn't put hardcore in the poll because there was limited choices. i WAS going to do "nu metal/"core"" but decided not to. and i was also going to mix power with symphonic/neo classical because really it's the same lyrical theme and to me sounds like the same guitar tone.Mongoosey said:Where the hell is hardcore in that poll??
Dude! That's the same as folk metal. I don't know about pirate metal though... never heard some. Unless you mean Finntroll, which i hope you don't, because they are definitely Folk/Viking/Hummpa.needausername said:I think you have overlooked the two greatest genres of metal ever, Pirate and Viking!
Heh, that's what I always say about Dethklok. A lot of my friends, even the ones that like metal, don't get why it's so funny because they can't understand the lyrics. But once you listen to it enough you get to be able to understand them, and now I can't listen to their stuff without laughing. Especially Hatredcopter or Face Fisted. Those always make me laugh like crazy.Alex_P said:If you listen to enough of their songs, you can eventually understand Metallica's lyrics; it's a bit like Ozzy Osbourne in that respect, I guess (I mean his songs, not the jumbled-up way he talks all the time). I think "Unforgiven" and "Fade to Black" probably have the clearest lyrics.RaptorZombieJesus said:Enter Sandman's melody was kick ass, but it didn't resolve my biggest grief about most Metal I've been exposed to, for the life of me, I can't understand the farking vocals! (Webcomic reference, damn Swedish, the language, not the people)
And not because hardcore isn't actually metal? Aren't its roots in punk, not metal?GoldenCondor said:I didn't put hardcore in the poll because there was limited choices.
Yeah, that too. But you forget genres like "metalcore" and "deathcore" which really do have punk roots, with a "metal" sound. I personally hate those genres, and try to avoid them because of the crappy vocals, same guitar riffs, and crappy drumming. I wouldn't call them metal. But i don't know what to think about them since i don't listen to them, and i couldn't count it as valid metal or not.MusicalFreedom said:And not because hardcore isn't actually metal? Far as I can tell, deathcore is definitely metal because it has enough metal influence. Metalcore, not so much. There's metal influence, but I can't bring myself to call it metal. Not when I can be listening to Venom instead.GoldenCondor said:[sup]Yeah, that too. But you forget genres like "metalcore" and "deathcore" which really do have punk roots, with a "metal" sound. Dethklok are like the jews of the metal world. Nobody likes them. I think the show is funny but the music is terrible.xitel said:I'm going to have to throw my vote in with Metalcore. Melodic Metalcore in particular. All That Remains, Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage. That's the kind of stuff I like. All That Remains in particular is the stuff that actually got me into metal in the first place, and still rank among my favorite bands of all time.
