The 1st and 3rd for some reason, i know not alot of people like 3 but i loved the single player for some unknown reason

There are so many "Which Halo game was the best" and "Why all the hate on Halo threads" threads, it's ridiculous. Can we please use the search bar? My 2 cents though are Halos 1 and 2 were the only ones worth buying.
The original Halo: Combat Evolved. Everything just works so perfectly. The ONLY thing wrong with that game is that the level designers started goofing off and doing drugs at the midpoint, so the levels get repeated shamelessly. I mean, the levels they did design were really good. It's a shame they couldn't have just made more of them.
When it actually comes down to it, Halo 3 is honestly the best. Of course massive over-playing has showed off all of its flaws, but it is a pretty incredible game.
Halo 1 is bad to current standards (flame away).
Halo 2 had AWFUL story mode, lack of features, but a great multi-player.
Halo ODST and Halo Wars felt like entirely different games.
Halo 3 may not be perfect by any standards, but it's still the best in all of the above.

Only played 1 thru 3, and a demo of wars, which I loved. From the ones I've played, 2. Or 1.

Halo is a franchise supported by it's multiplayer fanbase. Halo 2 had the best and most addictive multiplayer of the series. Therefore, I must conclude that Halo 2 was (and still is) the best of the series.
It's a hard call for me since each one has their own merits...
Halo CE: It's got FIRST/pistol
Halo 2 : Favorite campaign/story.
Halo 3 : Favorite multiplayer/community content
Halo ODST: Firefight.
I go with 2 because it's the only game that tells the story as good if not better than the books can do. And I like story.

Halo 2 however mixed things up with the Arbiter who is now my favourite game character ever... and Halo 3 put some great new ideas like forge and theatre mode into it... and ODST put a new spin on things.

Halo 3 ODST has the best soundtrack, and it has the guys from Firefly! I once heard/read something along the lines of "Marty O'Donnell is to video games as John Williams is to movies." I completely agree.
Halo Wars gets no love from me, as I did not play it. Demo was fun.

The original is the best hands down. Then they ruined it by removing the pistol and assault rifle in Halo 2. Then when they brought them back, they weren't as powerful or as fun to use, and the pistol didn't have it's scope. Never played ODST though, so I can't be sure about that one.
