Never heard of it. What's it like?

starseige tribes was one of the first MMO shooters, and tribes 2 is its sequal

tribes is scifi (origionally, mods make up most of the playable games) with the player limit being as much as the server can handle, the most people i have ever played with was about 40 at once, the highest player cap i have seen displayed was 200

the gametypes are your standards, capture the flag, free for all, team deathmatch, elimination etc etc. the outdoor maps are... well... you know Valhalla in halo 3? yeah the maps ON AVERAGE are 4 times bigger than that, and im being conservative. the maps are this large because of the wonderful magic that is jetpacks.

games are server based, you start up your game, select a server to join from a list of possible games, and as such lag is dependant on server host, server quality, and how many people are in the game. also if memory serves one persons connection (not just the host like in gears) can effect the connection of the whole game

like all pc shooters, mods are abound, not modders, but actual modded games. sometimes you can fly forever, sometimes gravity is so high the game becomes 2D and weapons can be ANYTHING.

My favorite online FPS is Battlfeid BC2. Although best is a point of contention as that comes down to a personal preference

Bad Company 2 is my current favorite.

It would be even better if my friends could suck thier eyeballs of MW2 for long enough to join a squad with me so I didn't keep ending up with 3 non-spotting recons.

http://www.tribesnext.com/ has the full download and a server system (as the origional has been shut down). There might be other places as well.

W00T for Tribes 2! We had so much fun in that game. I miss jetpacks.

FYI, someone's modding the ETQW? engine to make a new Tribes 2. Last I saw, he could bounce around and shoot like the original. Dunno if it's still on tho.

I've played a lot of mmofps's, and the only ones I still enjoy are Unreal Tournament 2 and Battlefield 2. on-line FPS's are games but, as far as I've seem (and that is limited), UT 2 and BF2 are the only communities that remember that what they are playing is a game and, therefore meant to be enjoyed, not milked for stats/levels.

Why do I have to kill my self, when I wouldn't be legally old enough to play it when it was released?

I grew up on CoD 2. Tribes 2 was before my gaming experience, and even if I had it it wouldn't run on XP apparently.

(Yeah I know your kidding, and so am I. I just suck at kidding. I may need lessons...)

My current favorite is BFBC2. The thing that makes it good is the enviroments change a lot during one match of rush, keeping the matches interesting. It also makes camping and spawn killing a lot harder with it's destructable inviroments. I mean sure there are some campers, but there's a lot less than in other similiar games, like MW2. And BFBC2 doesn't lag too much too often, making it actually playable.

Gears of War isn't an FPS. I know I'm picking nits, but that's always bugged me.

Out of stuff from the past few years, TF2, easily. Before that, probably UT (original and 2k4) and Q3A.

Halo 3, I have been consistently been playing it since launch, can't say that for any other FPSs.

TF2 and CSS..why..the instant you get tired of it...go DL sum new weapon and playermodel skins and the game is like brand new..and you can do that multiple times....never ending fun..plus lots of gameplay mods besides just DeathMatch
