Silver and Gold = Awesomeness & my childhood. All the newer ones just scare me in how complicated they've become.

Ruby. It's the only one I actually caught all of that generation's pokemon. I also spent an entire summer vacation leveling up about 30 of my pokemon to lvl 100 without cheating. I've spent a total of 797:08 hours playing this game. And you can decorate a house, how is that not fun?

Red would be my second favorite because it was my first and I used to pray to the cartriage at night and put it under my pillow along with my Ruby version.

All worship the unholy church of Pokemanz.

I would have to go with Emerald Version. It's kinda like Ruby and Sapphire packed into one.

I was the only person who had Pokemon Blue in my group of friends growing up, so I got to have my choice of trades. Those were good times.

Red had Scyther, that trumps anything.... Except the later versions, so'll have to say Silver.

Gold. Every generation past that sucks.
Honestly, If you can handle the add-ons in Gold and the first batch of 'new pokemon', there shouldn't be a single thing that gets in the way of your enjoyment with the rest of the generations. Also, the D/P/Pt genre is actually very good.

That said, I vote red-gold.

Gold or silver. New enough not to be a failure in the video game view, but old enough not to be full of shit like all of the other versions. (works same way with the show, It all died once Johto was done with)

Definitely god/silver because I gave you the largest selection of catchable pokemon(excluding gameshark/trading with others) and you had access to 16 gym leaders. 16 DAMMIT!

I would have to say the gold silver cyrstal generation was the best. Night and day made the game interesting along with breeding and having items.

It felt like the original game with a little bit more stategy, no gimicks no nothing.

Red. Always red because I knew that game inside and out and having infinite master balls/rare candy was great.

I enjoyed fire red for the enhanced graphics and the fact I new all the pokemon etc. Apart from that Gold was pretty funky.

I am not voting because you did not put Yellow, Crystal or Emerald in the poll, which were my favourite Pokemon games of all time.

HOWEVER-

While Crystal had the whole "Let's go to Kanto again!" thing after the Elite Four, it was kinda crap. I mean, we only got some gimped versions of the cities, and the whole map took about a fifth of the time to complete than the Johto one. Emerald, on the other hand, gave us the Battle Frontier, and for that, it gains my vote, even if you couldn't get all three starters in it (With Crystal, you could get the starters through a glitch of changing boxes).

Edit: I do have a qualm with the series as a whole in general. Most of the rare (and hence, best/most fun to play with) pokemon were found post-Elite Four, and by then all you really wanted to do was either a) Go to the Battle Frontier with your trained Pokemon, or b) Start a new game. Thankfully, Platinum rectifies this (as well as the whole absence of starters thing) with the Global Trading System. So I vote Platinum. Oh wait, you didn't include that either. T__T

Platinum, though I still haven't completed it. Just kinda put it down and didn't pick it up again.
I've only played Blue and Yellow otherwise, so I guess I'll vote for Blue. I don't know why you didn't group them together OP, put Red/Blue, Gold/Silver etc surely should have been one option each.
