little big planet. it's like programming your own game, except instead of programming you're stitching parts together.

Hmm, not seeing it, nope.
The only thing from that list I would consider worth my time is Little Big Planet, and it's not quite enough to make me want one. Oh wait, that option is spelled littlebigplanet. Welp, I guess I'm disenfranchised. Where's the option for raucous laughter at the PS3?
/flamebait

In fairness, I don't have anything much against it, just next to no actual yen for one.

Hmm, i put HD gaming one but this is not my belief. It is give and take with the best HD gaming, but may i point out that while some xbox 'exclusives' may end up on PC, this never occurs (as far as i know) from PS3 to PC. So if you want to have true exclusives the PS3 is the way to go. Bit annoyed gears 2 didnt end up on PC but hey ho we push on.

I find the "HD gaming at its best" option hilarious.
That may somewhat explain it, but I would still like the OP to explain why he put that option in the poll...
Because people find a convinient source of HD displays to watch Blu-Ray movies with their buddies right out of the box more appealing than doing research for 1080p+ HD PC gaming that is pretty much a niche for most games and only available to one person at a time because they had enough money to upgrade to 1080p+ but their friend didn't and now their friend is going to start mooching off of your PC/Blu-ray player but you're sick of his mooching?

I dunno, I always thought that people like easy to use sort of stuff that's right ouf of the box, no matter if that COD game is actually 720p or if that Pearl Harbor movie in Blu-ray is actually upscaled to 1080p (whatever that means) (also, the explosions were pretty)

But HOLD ON THERE COWBOY! We're starting a flame-war, which was inevitable anyway.

Those aren't really reasons to buy a PS3. Those are exclusive games to the PS3.
Well...yeah, exclusive games should be a reason for you to buy a Ps3 along with some other factors like Blu-ray and the like.

Don't get me wrong; if people want to play games at a sub-low-HD resolution, I have no problem with that. I'm just tired of everyone pretending sub-low-HD is magically low-HD because it's scaled up to 720p.
I thought 720p was average visuals? Looks decent enough to me, if it's true 1080p then woo-hoo for me I get to see slightly curvier faces and boobs, but it doesn't really matter to me that much until console games start progressively getting the 1080p treatment.

But when all console games are true 1080p, you PC gamers will all be like "HO HO HO! We've had 1080p for years you console-douchebag-tards!" and when console games go higher than 1080p you Pc gamers will be all like "HO HO HO HO! We've had 1080p+ for years you console-retards!"

But hang on a sec! Have you forgotten my Grade School analogy already? Do I have to say it again? I will say it again if I have to, I'll even PM it to you if I have to. There's nothing wrong with consoles being sub-1080 or whatever, and consoles have to be different enough from PCs because otherwise they are PCs and they're not supposed to.

Whoa, I really do sound like a douche in my post after reading through it, sorry if I come off harsh or whatever word you want to use.

How exactly is the PS3 considered "HD gaming at its best" when it can't even run a lightweight game like Call of Duty 4 at even 720p (the lowest HD resolution)?

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/call-of-duty-4-not-hd-only-600p-claim-pixel-counters/

Haha.
Huh? That's a problem with the game, not the console. It says right in the article that the 360 version did it, too. Why you threw the word lightweight in there too, is a little peculiar. This sort of reeks of fanboyism. Leaving out half of the facts and throwing in pointless flavor words.
Perhaps I should have qualified my post a little more, but do you think I hold the Xbox 360 in any higher regard? They're both laughable when it comes to being able to play games in HD.

Call of Duty 4 is a lightweight game in terms of how much it requires from hardware. There should be no reason why a proper "HD gaming" console can't render it at even the lowest HD resolution.

This is an example of being wayyyyyyy to fussy over slightly better detail...

This class, is what you don't want to be when you grow up...

Little Big Planet is the only reason that makes me want a PS3. Other than that, the PS3 is hardly superior to the Xbox 360. The PS3 has less games, suckier network (eventhough it IS for free. Wait, it is free, right?), is more expensive (both the games and the actual PS3) and.. Did I say less games yet? Plus, I really don't like the controller, but that's personal preference.

When I get the chance I'm going to pick up a PS3, now that it's been out for a few years and has a few games on it, though, mainly the big draw for me is Ratchet and Clank, Resistance 1/2 and perhaps a few others. LBP does not interest me. Sure it's cool, but it's a platformer and I do not enjoy platformers. And while, say, Ratchet and Clank has platformers, Ratchet and Clank also has the coolest set of weaponry in pretty much any game.

EDIT: and while the PSN is free, Xbox live still tops it. The PSN constantly fails out (on both wired and wireless connections), and fucking nobody uses it. Ever hear that joke?

"I hear that Resistance two will allow 16 person co-op."
"Yeah? Wonderful, the entire PSN community can playtogether!"

I bought mine because I grew up with the first PlayStation. Also I don't like Nintendo and Microsoft.

But the best reason now is Little Big Planet. I bought the game a few days ago and it's hilarious and fun. 5 minutes after I started the game I found out that I can move my arms around and I laughed so hard.

When 360 owners say that the PS3 has a worse online network they never say why. Can you give some reasons please?

ps3's the best imo cos i prefer the exclusives (mgs4, killzone, resistance GT, lair, heavenly sword etc) and cos it is actually cheaper than a 36 if you add up all the extra costs of the 360. plus sony has a 10 year plan for it, so i wont need to buy a new console till 2016, wheres 360 owners will have to in 2010
