Hello there fellow escapees,
I come to you with grim news. I am very, very sick.
The doctors say my disease is incurable.
And with the Elder Scrolls 5 stedily approaching, I am desprate to find a cure.
I of course, am talking about Bethesda Syndrome.
What is Bethesda Syndrome? Bethesda Syndrome, my freinds, is a syndrome causing extreme
indecisiveness, annoyance at minor details, and paranoia. Bethesda Syndrome can be diagnosed with the following chart:

Have you ever restarted you game to create a new character because you didn't like the way he/she looks?

Have you ever restarted you game to create a new character because you didn't like your characters race?

Have you still not beaten The Elder scrolls 4?

Have you still not beaten Fallout 3?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may have Bethesda Syndrome!!!

So let me cut to the chase....
For those of you who havn't figured it out by now, Bethesda Syndrome is the constant restarting of your game over minor character details. I have a Severe case.

I have restarted over my charaters class and race (ES4)
I have restarted over my characters skills (F3)
I have restarted my game because an NPC I cared for died. (F3)
I HAVE EVEN RESTARTED MY GAME OVER MY CHARACTERS NAME!!!!!!

I have yet to beat Fallout 3, and I have yet to even play the 3rd story mission in the Elder Scrolls 4, because of this disease. The most I've ever played on one character alone is probably 15 hours doing the shivering isles missions.

So I ask YOU, the people of the Escapist:
DO YOU HAVE BETHESDA SYNDROME?

Edit: For everyone who may have been offended by the halo option, it was not ment to be an insult, just a spot of humor. I happen to enjoy halo.

Edit again: I have both games for Xbox 360, so I cant do computer commands.

Edit again again: I'm not changing the poll, so for everyone who refuses to vote in it because you dont like it, I appologise. (Woot! I refused to change somthing! THERE IS HOPE AFTER ALL!)

Nope. Never restarted the game, stuck with the same character for both games, finished oblivion months ago, finish fallout and all DLCs a few days ago. I think im safe or immune. Then again does it mean the people who never bothered with the games are naturally immune?
Either immune or not in close contact with infected persons.

I don't, not really, but I did restart the Elder Scrolls IV for a glitch on the final Thieve's Guil quest. Basically, I'm an achievement whore and when setting out to complete something I make sure I do it. Hence when I found that because of one glitch I was unable to
steal the Elder Scroll from the palace
in the final Guild quest, I restarted. I've since achieved that and have finished the Thieve's Guild and Dark Brotherhood, so all is well :).

I haven't played Fallout 3 either, but I'd probably do the same there on a quest if I had to.

I restarted once, and it was just after I'd started so nothing of value was lost.

I started a new FO3 character when I became aware of the level cap the manual forgot to mention. I actually thought out my build and things turned out much better.

i've restarted just about everygame with customisational charaters apart from fallout 3 and oblivion (mainly because oblivion bored me) i spent ages trying to recreate the charater from my first play through on fallout 3 though...

I am indeed, a sufferer of BS(Lol).

I chose 'Minor Case'.

I can answer yes to all those questions you asked. However, I have often played a great lengths, just not the primary objective.

lol I intentionally waited to pick up dogmeat and once I did was a quick saving like every 30 seconds...
Never actually restarted, did a hell of a lot of loading quick saves though.

My case of Bethesda Syndrome includes a particular tweak that prevents me from designing my first character in any game correctly. I always play for maybe four hours before I realize I poured all my points into the totally wrong stats, and then restart.

If theres anything I can do to improve it, Let me know.
remove the unnecessary amount of "!"'s,there are never any reasons to use more than 1 exclamation mark, also i don't have the disease, i finished oblivion and fallout 3 without restarting, i found it harder not to in oblivion because the class i had chosen quickly became way to overpowered and there for there was no fun in playing beyond lvl 9, but in fallout there where books and figures and gear so you could play any type you wanted and still lvl up.

I've restarted Oblivion a few times, but never completed it. I've never restarted FO3, but haven't beaten it.

I actually haven't been able to get nearly as drawn into either title like I was with their older ones, so it usually loses my attention before I could reach the end. That said though, I never even attempted once to do the main quest in Oblivion - took me around 3 years before I first did the main quest in Morrowind... and I played that game a LOT during those three years.

So, I guess I faced similar issues before these titles, where I use to restart characters all the time, trying out different builds, etc...
