Yes, but that's different because "I" am a gamer.Hagi said:I've never understood threads like this.
They all seem to be based on the idea that if one calls himself something and then does something evil then everyone who calls themselves likewise shares responsibility.
You know, that exact same logic used by various officials to pass laws that attempt to ban video games?
"Often when you see gamers involved in the 8pm news it will be related to cases of violence. On top of that I can't say I personally know any gamers who aren't violent people."
"Often when you see feminists involved in the 8pm news it will be related to hating men. On top of that I can't say I personally know any feminists who don't hate men."
It just seems hypocritical to me...
People lack basic empathy for other groups. That's why gamers can collectively lose their shit over stereotypes on the news, but then turn right around and stereotype other groups without any self-awareness.
You'll see the same thing on the eight o'clock news where people will use an example of a radical muslim to explain why muslims cannot be trusted, but people will collectively lose their shit if a Christian is negatively portrayed on the news because "no true scotsman."
It's almost like there are dicks in every community that do not inherently define them, and we pick and choose which ones we feel are indicative of the culture as a whole. Gays all dress like they're on pride floats, feminists are all uppity supremacists, blacks are all violent, but don't you dare say a damn word about gamers.
...Not my actual belief system, mind.
