As an American, I'd like to say: Fuck that, they should stuff his corpse and mount it on the white-house lawn.
Ah but as an American I'd like to say: That would be idiotic.

The message we're trying to send here is that we're not at war with all Islam. What's more we send the message that we are magnanimous about the situation. We're better than he was, and we have the strength to be above such petty, two-bit posturing. This is the most intelligent course of action, your blood lust will have to settle with the fact that he's dead.

Any corpse deserves A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF respect, including the corpse of a criminal. Including an international criminal, a war criminal, a terrorist, etc.
I definitely agree with that. There are certainly a lot of people who believed in what Bin Laden did, but then again there are criminals that no one cares about or had no followers other than themselves. Which brings up the "why bother" question. Then again it all depends on what you believe in.

THEN, once the Al-Qaeda has been effectively disbanded, and the War on Terror concluded, "accidentally Leak" the location of Laden's burial place. Just the graveyard, not even which specific Tomb. This both creates an entertaining Urban Legend, but prevents people from using it as a Symbolic rallying point. Thoughts?
Not a bad idea, though I feel like even if you didn't announce anything, you'd get people making conspiracies about what we did with the body.
(Btw, as soon as I read the phrase "Urban Legend", I imagined middle school kids daring their peers to venture into "Osama's graveyard" and to stay for an entire night without his spirit eating their souls.)

It has nothing to do with being "politically correct"; it's about being a decent human being.

You're right that Bin Laden certainly didn't treat his enemies with respect, but we're better than that. We're handling his body according to proper Islamic traditions because unlike him we aren't barbaric terrorists.
That would be a good point, except for the fact that America has done many, many barbaric things themselves throughout the years....

You do know that the Americans trained and armed bin Laden themselves right....
I don't disagree with that, but why add something else to the list? Just because America isn't perfect doesn't mean it shouldn't always strive to take the high route, especially in a case like this.

On quiet nights you can still sometimes hear him whispering: "JihaaaaaaaaAAAAAaaaaaAAAAaaaaad... JihaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaAAAAAaaaaD!"

That asides, I personally would like to commend the government on it's tactful and respect worthy handling of the situation.

The dead cannot defend themselves and are beyond punishment.
Mishandle the body?
We are better than that. Show him the respect in death he never deserved in life.

As an American, I say dignity is deserved. He is still human, as are we. Yeah, we finally got him, now let's not be fucking douches and bury him properly. Wipe our hands of him, done and done.

As an American, I'd like to say "why not?".

Making such a big deal about this is already inviting martyrdom. Any steps taken to avoid that seem like a pretty good idea.

Dignity deserved? No. But if some people want it treated with dignity, for who knows what reason, then there's no reason to deny them that, apart from being vindictive... I don't like it, but I'm more or less indifferent.
On a scale of -100 to 100, I like this on a level of about -1.

I agree with this. Someone has to stop one time and offer their hand in peace (although it's a bittersweet, "we killed your top dog" kind of handshake)

Being Serbian, I have been very dismayed by the western media and western politics on how my people were unfairly treated and portrayed during the 90s decade.

I can only hope that this "humane act" is indeed America turning a new leaf.

I am quite skeptical though. From what I have seen, Americans have always acted in their own best interests and will turn on whoever if it will benefit them.

I'll avoid getting off on a Balkan tangent, but I will say this... I do believe it's possible the Americans had him already killed/captured, but were just using his escape as an excuse to secure middle eastern rich mineral deposits and/or oil fields and now that they have what they want, they can end their hostilities. Whether or not there is in fact a conspiracy is irrelevant. What's done is done, i can only hope that the world will become more peaceful after this.

That picture was floating around on one of the facebook like pages; I'm pretty sure the consensus was that it was photoshopped by the guy who uploaded it. If so, this is a major derp moment for the news agency that ran this story.

Edit: Fixed your embed.

Edit Edit: According to <link=http://www.buzzfeed.com/news/osama-bin-laden-dead-pics-disturbing-nec>this site, it's a fake which has been circulating since at least 2009.

He's a human being so his body does deserves dignity, as much as I hate to say it. I think we should take the high road and not let revenge get the best of us, and besides he's dead, fucker deserved it.

I think we should treat his corpse with some respect to prevent the radical element from being further aggravated. After all, killing him was understandable, and AWESOME, being a massive dick is not, and will only piss people off.
I still say AMERICA! FUCK YEAHHHH!!!!!

I wouldn't say he has deserved the dignity, but it's all about showing yourself as the better man, I guess.
Agreed.

Desecrating the remains only shows you are no better than your enemy.

Let'em make conspiracies. It won't hurt you guys more than the Retaliatory bombings that Al qaeda would pull off if you really did what the OP suggests....
