I'm a terribly biased PC fan.
Gamplay wise, after 3 areas of Bioshock, you became the grim reaper and there was no challenge/horror left because you could kill things by looking at them. Half-life 2's gameplay wasn't perfect, but at least there was danger (as long as you weren't a quick save/load spammer).
Plot-wise, Half-life 2's characters are amazing and I loved all of them, even Lamarr. The story isn't spoon fed to you, but they are taking too much of their sweet time to finish it up. >_> The only character in Bioshock I felt was amazing, though admittedly, moreso than most HL2 characters, was Andrew Ryan. He was badass. Tenebaum was annoying and her radio tapes were a weak attempt at making you feel bad for the citizens of Rapture (it doesn't help that almost every character model in the game is ugly as hell). And I never really felt like I was following Fontaine, but moreso just going on the path of the game.
And Breen was a way better final boss. (Ok, I feel bad for that. Sorry Bioshock fans, that you got one of the many terrible final bosses for your great game = /)

Half Life 2, because the guns didnt feel like I was shooting a snail-launcher.

And I just really dig the Eastern european style of Hl2's bizarre world.

Half life 2 wishes it was Bioshock. Story structure and more interesting characters, praise of course to System shock 2 as well.
Umm... It can't wish it was Bioshock since it came 2 years earlier >.>

I vote HL2.

Well, i am aware of that thankyou, and partially consider Bioshock to be in many aspects a reimagining of system shock 2 which came out in 1994, thus the mention. At any rate i didn't think people would interpret what i said as Valve in any way travelling through time and taking inspiration from Bioshock. It was just an off hand statement relating to Bioshock living up to the hype; and Half Life 2 not doing so. By ending badly, then making lazy add ons attempting to make up for it with the episodes, and relying on the source engine for balancing puzzles instead of story structure.

Half-Life 2 because it's a longer game. I've beaten both and their both some of my favorite games of all time but I would rather play Half-Life 2 if I had a choice.
