Between Stanly Woo tell everyone to get a girlfriend. The Bioware say deal with the small text. When did they become so fan unfriendly? I use to put them up there with Valve now they become somewhat of A-hole. What I getting at is this. Anyone else seeing this or am I wrong.

From my understanding, they said 'Get a girlfriend' to the people complaining about the Sex scenes in ME2. I think it's an appropriate response considering if you really care that much about a video game sex scene, you probably should try getting away from it for a while...

He was out of line, but more because of the whole "We don't care what you think of our games, shut up and play them" thing.

Well, they did listen to us and fixed basically everything that was wrong about Mass Effect for the sequel.
They're certainly not your best friends, but neither have they become A-holes. Not to mention that they're nowhere near the level of some of the real A-holes in the industry (looking at you, IW).

After Months upon months of "OMFG TALI SECKS" and such, i belive the response of Get a girl friend might not be to harsh, i mean, compared to the other stuff he could have said...

are you seriously asking if BioWare - the people who took to heart pretty much EVERY SINGLE ONE of the complaints fans made about the first mass effect and worked hard to fix them for the sequel - have shut out fans ?

the whole "get a girlfriend" bit was a response to people complaining about the sex scenes being less explicit then they wanted them to be
which i personally had no problems with at all

If by "fan-unfriendly" you mean that a single member of one of their development teams decided to stop kissing fan rear end and told the truth, then yes, they are very "fan-unfriendly."

I agree the text size thing is unfortunate, but it's not like they're the first ones to create a game with that problem and then not fix it.

As said, they did seem to listen to pretty much every single fan complaint about ME1 and implemented many fixes even if they didn't always hit the nail dead on (with Scanning, for example).

The fact is, they are developers who make games they want to make and try to make money off of them. They are, in essence, a business. They listen to their fans, but they are not your friends.

Yeah, I'll say it now. Telling us we are nothing special, so STFU, play their game, and like it, isn't exactly the way to go.

I'll also say this. They are getting cocky because of their games. ME2, DA:O and its so-called "expansion", and obviously Star Wars: The Old Republic. All big-profile games. Right now they are probably swimming around in a money pit, and aren't worried if someone pees in the pool, because ST:OR will work like STO on crack when it comes to its fan base, and will pay for a few refills of it.
They have every right to be cocky. They have yet to produce a genuinely bad game, and they've produced some of the best games this generation.

Stanley Woo (QA story team) said:
...Game development is not a collaborative effort between developers and gamers; it is a dictatorship, where we alone determine what content goes into our game. You the player make the choice whether that content is acceptable to you (and/or your family) or not.
Very dickish thing to say to the fans, especially when it's so obvious that they really did listen to fan feedback for this one.

Also: He's not the one who told people to get laid, that was just a forum user in the topic.

They said they can't fix the small text, not "We don't want to, shut up and deal with it." I wouldn't consider that to be fan unfriendly: I can understand how that would be hard to fix.

Making some good games is far from an excuse to be cocky and tell your primary customer base that their thoughts and opinions on the games are worthless.
Your thoughts and opinions on the game are worthless. They make good games without your help.

I would say he's right on the mark,

most of his critics probably do need to just get a girlfriend, and as for the small text, yeah, deal with it.

That text looks great on both a 19 inch monitor and the widescreen hdtv the console folks love to stress when they make fun of the wii.

I can't criticize them too much, because as I play through ME2, I see a lot of easter eggs and details that the fans asked for (I should know; I'm a official forum member) and some they didn't ask for, but the developers thought would be nice to include for them. I can't say I don't entirely lean for or against Woo on the issue that he was addressing, but I at least concede that the world of Mass effect was immersive, and a good part of that was because of the exchange between fans and developers. I'm just not fussed about the romances or sex in general.

They haven't shut out the fans. They are merely telling the people who are bitching about the sex scenes to fuck off.

As for the small text thing, they said they would consider it when developing Mass Effect 3.

So they have not shut out the fans.

Afraid I'd have to disagree. I think a developer has the right to make whatever game they want however they want. As such, I think they have every right to say that. If you don't like the game, don't play it; if you do like it, realize that no game will be perfect for everybody and they did their best making the choices they deemed optimal.
