I don't read. At all. It's boring for me because I have a tough time picturing what happens in them. I find it boring trying to make out the scene the author is drawing in my head.

Which is why I like video games, because it's already drawn out for you...

Last count: I had 40 books on my "must read" list, 200 on my "Want to read" list and bordering on a thousand on my "When I have time" list.

Unfortunately, my DVD/film collection is growing exponentially as well. As well as getting to the theatre, websurfing and other pursuits.

I wish I could read, but I guess I spend too much time either doing papers for classes and lurking here and on youtube. Methinks a major re-thinking of my priorities is in order.

As far as reading goes, I typically don't read much for a few reasons:

1) The reading material presented in my middle school and high school English courses kind of soured me on books. Beloved and The Jungle may be classics, but reading them is like eating raw broccoli and spinach. They may be good for you, but you can only choke down so much before you feel like throwing up.

2) I tend to get emotionally invested in whatever media I'm working with. If a book is too heavy, it stays with me for a while. If it's heavy and good, sometimes it stays with me so much that I get extremely distracted and even a little depressed.

3) A lot of books are crap. Being a slow reader, I hate to waste that much time on something that's just going to piss me off. Maybe I should start a website, like Yahtzee. Then I could at least recoup some enjoyment by writing scathing criticisms.

I spend 8 hours at work, sitting at a desk with a job that requires attention approximately 1-2 hours, during Graveyard. I watch Hulu. I write short stories. I read books.

I'm currently reading Don Delilo's underworld in an effort to get away from reading all of those World War books.

I fucking love reading. Reading is my crack. I see a bad day as a day where I'm not reading. I'll read anything as long as the plot is good. (and if it's written well.)

It has to because of my overzealous love of the written word why I decided to become a published book writer.

Yeah, I usually read things I get on recommendations from friends.

Peer pressure, it works.

reading is like breathing - it's a requirement for life
Are you a philosopher?

I love to read, mostly fantasy, adventure, science fiction, genres that everyone likes. Never got into mystery books, though, because all children mystery books are rubbish.
No just an avid reader. I read books like a chain smoker - starting the next as the current one ends. All genre's although fantasy has been a fave over the years.

When i read it's like i disapear into another world - when i worked on an island and had t catch a ferry to and from work every day I used to read to avoid sea sickness - because when i was reading i "wasn't really there" - it worked about 90% of the time. (but that other 10% - Blech! )

I would figure that SF/F would be big here.

On the other hand, I prefer non-fiction books on History and Economics.

To put it in an easy to understand way:

I'm putting together an essay about ten Gothic novels, ten Modernist novels, and ten secondary sources (essays, etc) about the genre for the next few days. I also read for funzies.

My braaaaain...

I always read in the train (I travel a lot by train). Mostly scifi. Read maybe 4 or 5 books a month.

Yeah I like to read a good book. Currently reading the Breakfast of Champions and then it's probably on to So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, the 4th book in the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a Trilogy in Five Parts

I'm doing a history degree so I have to do LOADS of reading for that anyway but no one cares about textbooks on 20th century Czechoslovakia.
