Totalbiscuit's thoughts on the multi-player actually mirror my own for the most part, so watching that video would explain my opinion. I played the original 90% solo. I've always enjoyed it more solo. Co-op is pretty awful, but it's a little hard to pin down why.
Here are some reasons why I think I don't like Borderlands in Co-op most of the time:
-Everyone wants to go at a different pace. Some rush on ahead; some lag way behind. I'd much prefer to go at my own rate while not frustrating anyone else with my choice of pace. I find myself getting annoyed at others for their choice of pace. It's a dumb thing to be frustrated with, but it happens every time. It can be like going skiing with a beginner friend and you're stuck on the bunny hill all day, AND the lift line is really long. Or it's like someone taking you heli-skiing when you have a hard time living through black diamonds.
-Loot hogs are not fun. Yes, I know playing with people you know helps, but that doesn't get rid of the other problems.
-Being underleveled means you spend most of your time in fighting for your life and feeling useless. Being overleveled can mean you'll sleep walk through the game--even more so
.
I've only played with one person in Borderlands where I actually enjoyed myself. Well, two, they were both pubs at the time. All three of us magically were at the same level plus or minus one, while also naturally going at about the same pace. I friended one of those people on Steam, and still enjoy co-oping with him in games from time to time. The main reason I don't like co-op in Borderlands is pace issues, and BL2 feels so similar I imagine the same opinion on its co-op will form.
Borderland's co-op would be the same if you just played separately while chatting away on Ventrilo etc. except you don't have to fight against brick walls or bundles of feathers.
