They're completely different games. I've only played Prototype and I loved it. I thought it was much better than inFamous, but I'll be the first to admit that the game isn't perfect. It's somewhat like Assassin's Creed in the sense that it starts off slow and it's rather repetitive. However, if you LIKE doing what you have to do, then the repetitiveness is greatly eased. Prototype is a GREAT game for relieving stress, as it's not just going around killing people, but it's doing it in incredibly vindictive and brutal ways.

So basically, if you want a satisfying, if rather repetitive single player experience, then you should go for Prototype. If you want a more Diablo style RPG that encourages multiplayer, then go for Borderlands.

Yeah, but the storyline isn't why you play a game, though it is nice. The story-line in Infamous is good, and being a bad guy and seeing all those little changes makes it a partially-new one. But the biggest bit of replay comes from the powers you get, evil powers and good powers are like two sides of a coin, they are both part of one big thing (shock grenades, lightning bolts etc), but they are completely different (good powers are designed for accuracy and controlled damage while evil powers are designed as sweepers to blow up as much area as you can as quickly as you can hoping that your enemies are amongst all the civilians you just killed. And seeing as the powers and the karmic choice system are DIRECTLY RELATED, the karmic choice system is what offers the replay value TYVM!!!

Prototype has the whip, muscle mass, claws, razor arm and the really slow, hard hitting one (I can't remember it's name) thats alot more diverse than accurate or splash damage.

ok, here's the deal.
If you'd like an awesome platformer/ third person shooter, go for inFamous. It's awesome (ten million times better than Prototype).
If you want an FPS/RPG game that requires old-school grinding and weapon combinations that rival Diablo II, go with Boderlands.
as for Borderlands vs Prototype? Go for Borderlands... Prototype is just shit.
I haven't played infamous but why would you say it's so much better than prototype? It seems to be the exact same game but it's slower to climb a building and the attacks look the same on infamous.
The games are nothing alike except on paper. Prototype is just some hack and slash with super-powers, with its only real plus being the fact that you cause immense destruction, but even then they destroyed that by making your enemies be able to shoot explosions at you and follow you wherever you go. Infamous, on the other hand, has a decent story-line, has a decently functioning moral choice system (meaning replay value), climbing buildings makes sense (physics wise), the main character is much more human and so are his enemies, so it is much more immersive, all of his attacks may be electrical based but they have great diversity, unlike prototype where the attack types only have one major advantage over another (blade arm for tanks, muscle mass for quick damage, whip-arm for hijacking). Also, in Infamous, the way the story is told is much more awesome than prototype's 'web of intrigue'. And for the final plus, in Infamous, killing enemies isn't just a matter of spamming the attack button because dying is alot easier and therefore tactics are required (dying doesn't happen all the time, but it is like MW2 in that you take damage then heal after a bit as opposed to having a health bar).

So yeah, Infamous and prototype are nothing alike except for the 'sandbox' aspect, and even that is done differently in each game.

OT: Get Borderlands, I have never played it but Prototype gets repetitive fast, even the side-missions in prototype are just the same 4 or so things over and over.
Doesn't the fact that there looking for you and they have tanks and grenade launchers means that makes sense? They are trying to kill you, so it wouldn't make sense if they just had a few million marines turn up with machine guns.

The web of intrigue is just a part of the story, from what I can remember the main story is about what happened to Alex and were did the virus come from but in a more linear way, the web allows you to stumble across the people related to it, where as the story drags you along.

Climbing buildings makes sense in this world, remember were talking about a guy who can shape shift and glide and a guy who can shoot electricity out of his hands. The problem I have with infamous (and assassins creed is guilty of this) is it's to slow, I don't expect spiderman speed but I think it does ruin it.

I don't know how to put spoilers but read up the story to prototype and you are fighting the infected aswell so most of them aren't human.

In every video I have seen of infamous the person has always climbed (slowly) onto a roof top, locked onto a target and spammed the attack button or ran down a street, locked on and spammed the attack button.

You can use tactics in prototype, you can find a hunter and hit it a few times then run to an army base, the hunter will cause chaos while you slip in, granted it's not exactly Total war but what do you want from a sandbox game.

Getting some of those side quests to platinum is a real anger inducing experience.

I am just saying it's not as bad as every body is making out it is and from what I have been told about infamous, it sounds like the worse game.

Prototype is fun and cathartic, also it is extremely short plus the storyline is laughably poor.

Borderlands is fun and cathartic, also it a decent length game plus them storyline is laughably poor.

If they are the same price it is much easier to go for the longer length game, that offers some semblance of replayablity.

Prototype - hmm I have to fight a military base full of hundreds of soldiers. I guess for tonight meal I'll start of by hijacking a helicopter, eat the pilot, drop a payload of missiles in the base, Crash the helicopter into the base, get into a tank, eat the driver, waste half the base, crash the tank, eat a bazooka joe, *strike team enroute!* stealth nom a general...and call it a day. orrrr

I'm with this guy and his Penny Arcade comic.

I really don't understand all the hate against Prototype. I suppose it's a bit of a Marmite game (you either love it or you hate it). I loved it. Most people I know loved it. Sure, looking back, it was a bit repetitive, but I think I was having too much fun to notice.

I've played and beat both Borderlands and Prototype.
Prototype is fun to go around and decimate all sorts of enemies with various weapons. thats probably the best thing about that game. But Borderlands does it better, has tons more weapons, and much better/longer replay value.

if the money isn't an issue, than Borderlands for sure

Thank you.

Prototype is a derivative third-person beat-'em-up with very, very little originality. It comes from a genre that should have died the best part of a decade ago. Go for Borderlands; it may just be Diablo with guns, but Diablo was quite fun back in the day.

Then again, I wouldn't have either game; I'm sick of these derivative and clichéd titles that everybody seems to have adopted this year.
See? this man gets it! Prototype was just horrible and when I reccomended inFamous, I wasn't suggesting a different game to prototype, I was merely suggesting a game that was similar to Prototype in many ways, except in the fact that inFamous was a good game.
Except, by your other posts on Infamous/Prototype its clear your completel biased against it, so therefore you cant be taken seriously.
Then perhaps a biased opinion is in order!

I had fun with both games, I really did. But... something about Prototype was wrong. I do not know why, and I didn't notice until after I sold it. It was like, when I had stopped playing all the hours I had spent seemed wasted. Maybe I played it too much, but it got repetitive in the end.

InFamous had better quality by far. Quality as in better controls, better graphics, better loading times, better technical stuff. Game play is up to debate on which one is best, story was more consistent and better but the plot twist at the end was kinda weird, but I liked it better than prototypes ending.

Prototype: Mindless fun

InFamous: Mindless fun that at the same time makes you feel like your playing a game that is actually from 2008.

Although InFamous gets a huuuuge minus for the fact that you have to press R3 to see hidden collectables on the minimap. My thumb hurt a lot after getting the platinum trophy.
Haha, amen on the L3 (R3 was to switch camera perspective sides) being the button to locate blast shards. That's a big letdown for the game, but it hardly breaks it.
As for inFamous, I loved the ending, as it left it open for a sequel, but at the same time, I think it would be a smart move on Sucker Punch's behalf to not create a sequel.
It was more of a thumb-breaker than a game-breaker ;)

See? Conan O'Brien says we suck. Can't argue with him I'm afraid. You are the most awesome.
Well according to this crazed religious zealot perfectly reasonable person, God Hates Ireland.
It's a tough call, but I think God is slightly more powerful than Conan O'Brien.

You, are the more awesome.
All we have are red horses from wood. You have these:

That's way more awesome than this

Voted for Prototype just because I despise the overhyped piece of crap that is Borderlands. I'd say find something better though. They're both pretty shit.

I haven't tried Borderlands but I'd definitely recommend Prototype. It's obscenely fun, though the plot is a bit lacking.

cross out prototype. it´s not bad but not worth a full purchase either. you should rent it. borderlands on the other hand means endless hours of fun, especially if you like to play with others.

What the hell is wrong with you, and honestly, what's wrong with all of the Prototype haters? Prototype was good fun.

Elbow dropping helicopters: Fuck yeah.

Infamous came with my new PS3, I'll know soon which one was more awesome.

Woah, why all the hate for Prototype? it wasnt THAT bad. Not that good either, but i'd say give it a go if you can find it pretty cheap.
seconded. and after all even Yahtzee liked it so why does everyone else hate it so much ?

I personly recomend borderlands more however, its very addictive and you'll find yourself playing it then realising "oh crap I been playing 3days non stop"

prototype is also great fun, if you ever played spiderman2 on PS2 its like that but with more toys and a deeper plot.
