While I prefer not to happen, I also understand that the consequence if the baby doesn't get fed and the baby will cry and never shut the fuck up. So yeah breastfeeding in public is fine by me.

Intensely don't give a shit.

Granted, I don't give a shit about nudity either. I'm pretty sure kids have comprehended the existence of penis, tits and a vagina ever since they bathed with their parents, so I'm not entirely sure just what part of it is "obscene". Sex? Sure, I guess you could say pornographic material is obscene and might harm children. Nudity not so much. Certainly didn't hurt the generations before us.

Sure why not, mothers feed their children when they need to be fed. Don't see the issue unless your THAT akward, just look away if it really bothers you that much.

She's feeding her baby.
I find it beautiful. Not in a sexual way or anything. It is simply beautiful how life is created and how the mother can nurture her child with nutrient made from her own body.
Suuuuuure i know what you mean [wink wink] :3

It's not as annoying as everything else I see when I go outside. Like white people pretending to be black, chav mothers, and mothers with spasticated children who drool all over the damn place but the mum won't clean it up because apparently it can't help it.

I beieve you've hit a key point here. Its NOT sexual, but some people seem unable to fathom this.

There is nothing sexual (In the giggidy giggidy) sense about a mother providing sustinance for a child. But because breasts are assosciated with sexuality (again, of the giggidy giggidy type) people just have brain fits and can't cope with detatching breasts from the concept of sexuality.
except for men it seems ... it's really stupid and noone can really explain why women can't walk around topless when men can... I find most mankind is just simply detached from their brains :p

Why exactly can't they just go to the bathroom to do it? When I need to take a shit, I don't just drop my pants and leave one on the ground for all to see, I go to the bathroom and do my business there.

As part of the post college crowd, I find myself to be exposed via facebook to a stream of expectant mothers posting various issues that pertain to pregnant life. That being said, I once had the bad sense to openly argue with a pregnant woman's opinion on the topic of breastfeeding.

As a 20 something man, I feel perfectly justified NOT wanting to see certain things when I go out into public. Its not because I think its wrong to breastfeed, or even because its supposedly "obscene". It just strikes me as something that should be done privately.

The debate between us "raged" mostly because she found my different opinion offensive, but still I persisted, because I was absolutely sure about one thing above all else. Any time I see breastfeeding in public, I turn my head and am forced to make an effort to not look. If its being done in a restaurant, I have trouble continuing to eat without staring directly at my plate.

I understand the desire to be free to feed your child, but I don't understand why Im such a terrible person for thinking that it should be a more private action.

What are your thoughts?
A mother breastfeeding her child is probably the most beautiful thing in the world to witness. That said, DON'T STARE.

Agree with OP re: the awkwardness involved in averting eyes from this natural act. A stray boob can be very distracting for a man. Sexuality will never be divorced from the breast, as pure as the intention of feeding a hungry child may be.

Probably best we learn to live with it rather than ban it. If ladies nonchalantly breast-feed in public, perhaps nonchalantly give their boob a good stare and a compliment, since it's so pure & natural when being sucked. If they say "don't look!" then you have the leverage to tell them to "get it out of sight then, dear".

Since when does arousal have much to do with cognitive reasoning?

Of course we can fathom it, but it doesn't give some men much better control over their trouser-snakes, and can be distracting even if it isn't arousing.

The baby is hungry, the mother feeds him/her, if this offends you... well, you got another thing coming.

I really think you should get over yourself, OP. They want to feed their child, you don't have to watch. You said it yourself, it's not obscene, it's not their problem that you can't handle it. You don't get to tell them to stop on the basis that they aren't conforming to your whimsical and irrational problem with it.
