With Brink's free weekend now over, what are your thoughts towards this game having played it?

Where did they Go wrong, what did they do right?

Will you buy it or pass?

For me personally I enjoyed a lot of the games design and gameplay choices, but so much of it was a bloody mess I can not see myself purchasing it.

I played as a Minigun wielding, shotgun toting Heavyset Medic dude (as there are no females on the Ark apparently) Running around shooting stuff. My problem is I had finished downloading it Saturday afternoon and before dinner rolled around I had unlocked everything that was non cosmetic and was really left with no where to go.

I think I may have been bamboozled with trailers thinking the weapon system was deep and complex as they whirred through the guns rapidly adding and removing different add ons, that in essence do nothing at all, there are really only a few guns, the rest are duplicates with stat tweaks in all honesty.

Moving forward for this game would have to be a deeper customization plan, a actual story, none of this blah blah blah plot, play a game of ctf on this map non sense. Since there are two main colors for clothing, just make them mix and matchable, cut out the middle man and let me pick what tints from an array ala Halo to color my bomb squad padding.

In the words of Recette:"Bwuh!?" What free weekend? I suppose there's not much of a point in asking, since, as you've stated, it is apparently over. Still, I was looking for a "What Brink free weekend?" poll option.

Fine I'll Throw that option in there Lol.

Brink had a free to play weekend over steam as a part of QuakeCon, So you could have played the whole full game for free all weekend.

Aw, bummer. Heard a lot of negative things about it, but no reason not to try it for free. Guess it's my own fault for not really being very into Steam, if you take my meaning. I only start it up when I want to play a particular game, so I usually don't know about events like this.

haha i'm surprised how many of those quotes from that game i see on here..before i played the game i always thought "wtf are these people talking about..they sound like idiots.." but they are hilarious now.

OT: Eh i played it at a friends as my hard drive is literally at max capacity, it was great but nothing i'd spend money on for a in depth experience, especially compared to alot of the other games coming out soon..

Steam had it.

OT: Character customisation is good fun, art direction is great, world is surprisingly interesting, actual game stuff is crap. And SMART is terrible: why the hell can I only stop it when I stop moving? It should turn off as soon as my hand is off the bloody key. As it was I was climbing up ledges and then sliding off at the top for no reason.

I honestly liked SMART's idea, but the game was just executed terribly. I felt I could have really liked it, if AI intelligence was at least consistent. I got to this point in campaign where I couldn't beat the mission because the AI on the other team were like Terminators and my AI companions would totally forget how to hack things or otherwise just sucked.

One time, an AI companion got stuck on a bridge as it was lowering. He didn't move again for 15 minutes, when the game ended. The AI on Brink can communicate amongst each other and operate with astounding efficiency, but when you change the difficulty that only affects your AI. I just wanted to play through the campaign, but when ten minutes of work can be overwritten in ten seconds it makes for foul gameplay.

I really, really dislike how Brink's AI was such a huge flop until they were against you. And that their defense scripting was 15x better than their offense scripting.

Hmm... looks like I'm one of the few who actually is considering buying the game due to my experience with the free weekend.

I will admit, the first time I tried it I wasn't too impressed. I basically ended up running about not really sure what in the hell I was supposed to do. All I knew was that apparently there was some objectives and we had to do something with these objectives. I basically was just confused without a clue what was going on. For some reason however, I had a desire to try and play it once more, so I gave Brink a second chance.

Then, it just clicked.

All of a sudden (mainly once I started playing as a medic) I knew exactly what I was to do and how to do it. I knew I needed to stick with my teammates, guard the objectives, help out my teammates when needed, etc. etc. Not only that, I started having a lot of fun. Plus, it was one of the few games I've ever played where it truly felt like I was contributing to a team effort to win, not just running around and shooting anyone who had a different uniform.

Yeah it was flawed, but I actually had a very good time overall, and that's all I need to make Brink a possible purchase for me.

The other problem with single player is enemy AI seems to scale as you rank and level... ,but your teams AI does not.

I was on whatever mission the security force has to stop a rocket from launching and I held down the fort until the timer almost expired when I died by a mass zerg rush and they planted the scanner thing.

We took the area back, but lost because none of the engineers or whatever took the scanner off in the minute or so that it took to complete.

The whole game almost starts to feel like a really bad game of Team Fortress 2 or any other class based games. Where you spend most of your time class hopping because idiots are doing it wrong, like poor sentry placement, or not blocking proper areas with dispensers. Going medic because no one heals the heavy etc.

Well, the customization is good, and the art style is unique. Then... I started to really despise it. The A.I is broken, the maps are boring, and the controls are clunky, especially when free-running. I kept sliding all over the place like a stick of butter, and the lag didn't help. I REALLY wanted to like Brink, but it's just impossible with this amount of major problems that still haven't been fixed with patches.

Trust me you didn't miss all to much, Like I've said can more or less beat the game in under an hour, unless you want to grind out the costumes and abilities.

Which do you a disservice as the enemy levels with you. So if you play single player til max level and then do the challenges for the weapon unlocks you'd be facing insane AI with all their perks and abilities unlocked at normal difficulty.

That and losing a 20 minute game in the span of 10 seconds can really throw your mood off.

As I stated on the Steam forums, I can see the good game glimmering from under a pile of bad design decisions, but I don't really care enough to have to dig it out. The game had definite potential, just a shame it was wasted.

Pretty bad.
Only really had fun when me and a friend were on opposite teams and he told me who he was disguised as when he wasn't really so I ended up killing my team-mates with grenades loads. Menk, if you are here, I am sorry.

Well it is almost laughable when you see some of the bizarre and faulty design choices in the menus alone. Just clicking through clothing options. Like you click something, look at the coloring options, which really should have let you customize it, and you have to mouse over to the back button instead of clicking on another article of clothing.

Anywho this is what my guy looked like for shits and giggles. Cept with a minigun, dishing out revive pens and health. What a game breaker its like if you were playing tf2 as the heavy, medic and sniper at the same time, with grenades lol.

I bought Brink when it first came out and the reviews it was given were harsh. This game was really meant for PC but the reviewers all played it on consoles and the consoles couldn't run it as smoothly as it was supposed to be run.

Its a good game with a good story.
The multiplayer could be changed.
Graphics are beautiful.
The two teams look good.
The only problem that I can't comprehend is everyone on consoles saying they had bad connection...I have bad internet and I never suffered anything like that on my PC.

I liked the game quite a bit when I bought it. Still do. Heard the console version was crap though, don't really know much in that area.
