I love the way you're all so quick to jump one the one person who votes for the BNP. You are infact just as bad the BNP themselves, you're persecuting someone for their beliefs. Intolarence for the BNP supporters is still intolarence.
This may be true, however for a tolerant society to exist, the people must be intolerant of intolerance, it may be a little hyppocritcal, but it's the only way to achieve maximum tolerance.

A very good point and a moot one at that. I completely agree with you in that intolerance is unacceptable and detrimental to the advancement of society and I also feel that the BNP should not be given any form of power. I just felt it was necessary to point out the hypocrisy of declaring someone a "knuckle dragging racist" because of their political ideals. Possibly because i'm a smug twat. Apologies if these posts came across as self righteous or "holier than thou", that was completely unintentional. Also if anyone is particularly interested, my vote went for the "none" option.

EDIT - this post was supposed to be a reply to Darkmaster127s reply to my post.

No problem dude, i do agree with you to an extent, and didn't voice my view of the BNP for those reasons.

ILPPendant's thought process:
A vote for anyone other than Labour or Tory is irrelevant.
Tories had Thatcher. Labour had Bliar and Broon.
I hate Labour less than I hate Thatcher.
Labour gets my vote.

the BNP has a right to exist and I'd campaign for them to have that right.

I will also do pretty much anything to stop them from getting elected, they have a right to have an opinion, I have a right to tear it to shreds and discourage people from voting from them

I'm a Socialist, so none of them, although if pushed I can be convinced to vote green given a lack of alternatives.

And I like that both Labour and the Tories are being beaten by the Monster Raving Loony party.

I voted 'none', but I'm going Labour in the EU elections today, for the following reasons:

1. I only want to vote for a major party. I'd rather choose the lesser of two evils than make a pointless protest vote.

2. When I looked at the Conservative's manifesto I disagreed with every one of their points!

Therefore I am voting labour.

Woo, good to see so many lib dems! Definitely who I'm voting for in local elections. Norman Baker ftw.

That said I might vote for Cameron because he's less of a dickhead than I first thought and Nick Clegg is a bit of a twat.

Labour are an awfull party. They have roots in socialism for fuck sake. New labour is almost dead so a return to socialism is forseeable. They have massively increased public debt, tuition fees. Thats right, because of them we leave uni with massive debt, i believe 30,000 is average.
Gordon Brown is going to be the 2nd pm to take us over 3 million unemployed. We all remember what happened to the last one dont we, yes we do maggie
So... who did you put down? I bet it's UKIP...

Because of a complete lack of viable options for a right wing party, i will probably vote conservative

None, I despise our current political parties and system, we should be multi party representation like the netherlands (I think?) where the number of votes relates to the representation/number of seats elected. But as it stands we are basicly given shit and told to like it with labour or conservative or vote for lib dem and never get through.

Before labour, you did not have to ay and the government gave you grants. People froma any background could go as long as they had the grades. Now, at £3,00 a year, i can barely afford the tuition fees let alone living expenses. And student loans may be cheap, but not as cheap as not having to take them out at all.
Next please
My advice? Become Scottish and vote labour. Government pays for you, w00t!

On that subject, my friend said to me the other day "we should cut off scotland and just have england as a country because they get more taxes spent on them and pay less taxes", I then pointed out that that is the entire point of taxes and if he wants a fair distribution of taxes to wealthy people he might as well cut off the north of england and wales as well and in fact just make London and the south east a nation itself.

Glad to see you chose a sensible option. My rich posh friends thank you for letting them keep their hordes of wealth.

Also I saw somebody bring up the point of grammar schools. Yes we need them back. I hate my parents having to pay for my private schooling because the state sector is so rubbish. It's not fair to put kids who have a genuine desire to learn in with people who simply don't care. That said I feel bad for the people who try but aren't clever enough to get into grammar schools.

Like nazi germany... proportional representation = bad. In france, if that happened, The uber racist party led by le penne would have had the largest representation (about 25%) back when Chirac was elected.

Hooray for Socialism, Ploppy! Although I must admit that I wish my chosen political ideology was being championed by someone with a slightly better username.

This thread has the potential to end in tears, but it's interesting to see how some of my fellow Escapists feel. I've had my views on a couple of them changed already. I'll just keep my fire extinguisher handy.
Hey, there are no better usernames than Blackadder references.

And yes, it would be nice if a political thread could avoid descending into a flame war, just this once.

Since there's no Green option, I guess its going to be the Monster Raving Looney Party. I still have to get round to voting, but since the Tories will get in anyway, there's not much point. We need a decent left-wing party with half a chance. Labour haven't been left-wing since they became New Labour

Edit: Actually, I will vote. There's always a point, and I won't be able to complain about it afterwards if I dont vote. I'll do it in half an hour.

Add an option for NONE because all political parties are brainwashing pricks. And you should remove the BNP option.
Why? it's got ONE vote.
Yes, but that one voter doesn't deserve his freedom of speech. That, or he clicked it by mistake.

Anyway, can you add an SNP(Scottish National Party) option?
Nobody dosen't deserve free speech. It's just this one particular racist bastard has seen fit to abuse it. The BNP is a facist, evil, cold-hearted organisation.

Anyway, I'm going to have to stick to Labour. They're not perfect, sure. They're bloody flawed. But where the hell did the tories get us last time? Hmm? Got reason to believe that won't happen again? I say bullshit. A political idea does not change in 20 years, and I doubt many of the smaller parties have any idea what thier doing.

Anyway, I'm just gonna wrap up by saying: Britain's goverment sucks. I'd say we're on track for a revolution. Very soon, too. Friction is building.
I agree that everyone should have free speech, I was just being facetious.

I really don't think a revolution is coming though. Maybe it's different in the cities, I don't know what the mood is in them - I'm kind of isolated out here on my island.
