I'm sure you did it with all the right intentions, but their parents may have had a great reason for them not to own the game. Like maybe one of their parents knew a person who had died while programming the game. Now they will be reminded of this tragedy every time they see these kids playing that game. But, yeah, if you can live with that then I don't see any reason to stop buying things for people who can't have them yet. Did you take them to see a movie that was rated R afterwards? Or invite them into the pornshop with you? Yeah, all acceptable.

I can't read all of this.

If you step up and buy something for someone who has no right to get it them-self... you are wrong.

Simple math.

Peer pressure and all that is just a lame excuse.

There are reasons why kids shouldn't buy things. If you want a list of these things, PM me and I will explain them to you.
Well, if you have something to say but are too lazy to read my post, then I'm not interested in what you have to say. Simple math I suppose.

As long as they have no way to prove it was you, probably not bad. RDR is, according to rockstar, a game that parents should not buy for their kids, so you did bad by them. but the difference between 16 and 17 is minimal, If they would have been a year older and bought it themselves, it would have been the same thing without the middle man. No I think you did fine

You shouldn't have done it. You know nothing about the children, about their situation at home, about their parent's attitude towards games. You shouldn't get involved in it. There could be so many reasons why the kids had to ask you in the first place.

There's no actual law restricting sale of video games to minors, and every time somebody tries to pass one it gets taken to court and struck down - refusing to sell M-rated games to children is a voluntary policy the stores enact. So basically you can do whatever the hell you like - they're not your kids, and if they get in trouble with their parents for suddenly owning games they're not supposed to, well that's their problem, not yours.

But your lack of legal liability doesn't necessarily mean you should, as there's probably a reason they needed to ask a stranger to buy it for them and so by doing that, you're undermining parental authority. You're obviously cool with that though, so have at it.

Wow! Thrilled to see the conversation continue into the next day!

Out of 294 responses:
112 people feel what I did was wrong for various reasons 1, 3, and 5.
130 people feel what I did was ok for various reasons 2, 4, and 6.
86 think it's wrong to bypass the will of the parents.
6 think it's wrong to lie.
20 think it's wrong to break the rules.
84 think it's ok because it's harmless.
18 think it's ok because it was inevitable.
28 think it's ok because it was super helpful.
12 think I'm a tool who should nut up and start stealing kid's lunch money.
9 think that Rockstar has made a game that rises above the law and any sense of morality.
31 people still can't see the value of qualitative polling... why bother responding? Whatev... it's your vote, do as you wish!
Keep the opinions coming, and don't shy away from starting dialog with one another. I don't have any time today to get involved in the discussion, so I'm leaving it up to y'all: do me proud!

i dont think its wrong. A few years ago, my friend and I went to Gamestop to buy a "M" game, we were both like 13 or 14 but we were friends with the guy who worked there and let us buy it. It would be one thing if you bought them a game that was realy bad, bad as in sooooo inappropriate for kids, but RDR isnt that bad, sure i won't let my 10yr old bro play it but a 15-16yr old prolly has seen worse by then.

I'd say you did a decent if not rather odd thing. Being a minor I'd love to meet you in the street. I also get the idea that if you didn't like the game in question then you wouldn't buy.

I have never been approached by strangers to buy them a game. Cigarettes and alchohol manys a time but never a game. Although I would have done like you did. If they had have asked for a shitty game like Alpha Protocol (Never played it but the review aren't too friendly), I would even use my wisdom of gaming to suggest other (better) stealth games.

But back to the exact matter at hand. You say they looked 15 or 16. At this age I was playing games filled with violence, blood and tits, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one. The way I see it, you should be playing games that are 4 years above your age. As most 14 year olds have been exposed to the kinda things you see in 18 videogames. However, some games, like Manhunt or something are an exeption.

Another thing I found odd about your predicament. You said one of the kids was being the wheel of a car. So he is aloud to control a machine that can be easily used to kill real people but he isn't aloud to buy a game in which he kills fictional characters?
Isn't that odd?
