Never, I bought BL2 two weeks after it's release for $25. Some of my favorite games are ones I got for free or super cheap. DotA 2 was free, Day of Defeat:Source cost me $2.50.

It's entirely circumstantial for me. I only really buy a game at full price if it's a game I'm really looking forward to, and I see no hints of anything that might sour the expereince. Case in point: I loved Bioshock, but I didn't get it at full price because of the DRM. I like how Infinite looks, but I'm really unsure of the 2 weapon limit I've seen in the videos. Bioshock 2 I avoided completely because I never saw anything about it that looked more than a cash-grab based on the first game. I ended up getting it for $5 and never played it.
Than go play it. You just bought one of best for as cheap as you could, actually, so cheap it must've been like stealing lol. Seriously, the main "wow" factor is gone because you already played the first game, but the story is "smarter" this time around, and if you download the dlc, wow, oh boy, the DLC had the best story of all, actually made me cry.
I don't doubt that it was enjoyable to play, but I didn't love Bioshock for being fun to play. The world, characters and cultural depth were far more engaging than any game I've played in recent years. Bioshock's story was about as smart as they get (ignoring some weird plot holes), so saying that BS2's story was even smarter is making me call BS. Besides, if Minerva's Den is all I have to look forward to for a compelling expereince, then I guess I won't be playing it. It's not available on the PC.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it is on the PC, but I have to buy it through Microsoft. Fuck that, I don't even want to use GFWL if I can help it. Now I remember why I lost interest so quickly when it was being released...

Instead of going all rage-mode-on, play it, you already own it anyway. Yes the cultural depth is still there, believe me, you lose nothing from one game to the other, and the story IS better, hinting towards one of Ryan's greatest fears: communism (in the form of Sophia Lamb, the main "villain" this time around, I'm pretty sure you read the book, it's damn fine, it happens BEFORE any Bioshock game and gives a good view on Ryan, Lamb and many others). Sad you can't play Minerva's Den, that one, doesn't have much political focus on it as both main games, but the STORY is deeper (by the end of it your character finds out some jaw dropping truths), however, it does not affect Bioshock 2, it's not a "continuation" nor anything, it's more like, a brand new story built on the same engine (like GTA's Lost & Damned).

Rarely. Admittedly the only games I buy new tend to be DS games these days since I have no other modern consoles. But still, even then I only very occasionally pay full whack for new games when they come out - Pokemon Black and Black 2, Pokemon Conquest and Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies are pretty much the only DS games I can remember buying at launch for full price.

To be fair, even if I did own current gen consoles I don't think I'd shell out for full price new games. Prices are far too high to really afford to do that, I think. Much better to wait a few months and let the price drop a bit to a more reasonable level.

Oh I'm not raging, I just don't believe that BS2 is going to give me the expereince I'm looking for. I plan to play it one day (probably after Infinite), but I know it will be very hard to separate the two games and not compare it harshly to the best game of this console cycle. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not foolish to think that lightning will strike twice that easily.

You're not missing anything. BS2 is basically a big Bioshock custom map. Just uninspired, recycled crap. I bought it used, beat, and returned it, back in the day when i was doing this like every 3 days until the guy yelled at me lol
See, this is what I'm afraid of. That analysis sounds far more harsh than what I expect to expereince, but the disappointment is still there. I've hardly written off the game as I have so many others, but it sounds like something to play on a bored weekend when nothing else sounds good. Though, usually when that happens, playing old classics like Bioshock 1 is the preferable choice.

Most of the time when I buy a game it is the day it comes out, and in the past 3 years I think I have only gotten like 3 games at most that I was disappointed in. But recently I have been buying fewer games.

I put down a sometimes on the vote, due to the fact that if I really like a game or series, then I like to support it if possible by buying it for full price. I went out of my way to pre-order Tales of Graces f and pick it up on day 1, even though due to certain issues, I knew I would be unable to play it for the next two weeks. But the thing is, I have a pretty limited taste in games, and that, coulpled with my lack of money, keeps me from going out and buying games at all, and if the game is a bit lower on my scale of importance, then I may opt to pick it up used in order to get two games instead of one.

Only if I think the game will become hard to find later or if I really want to support the developer (I'll wait a while when it comes to popular franchises that are going to sell a bunch anyway, but I'll something like Rayman Origins or El Shaddai right away in order to send the message that I want more games like them or from their developers).

Very rarely . I don't feel the need to play games on release and talk about them on internet forums . Games i did buy on release were , Persona 4 Arena , and Dark souls in the last year. Totally worth it.
100% with you on dark souls. I think that was like the last game i bought for full price for the past 5 years. I bought the pc edition on launch too. I just wanted to support the developers as much as possible. Too bad theyre fucking up the sequel by all available evidence. That shibuya guy can go eat rocks and jump in a lake as far as im concerned. Just let the original director direct ffs
At least i'm not the only one that thinks so . I will buy Dark souls 2 on release , but i hope they don't change too much. If they make it easy then it has lost it's charm for me . And i will make a point to return it to gamestop soley so someone else has the opportunity to buy the game used . Out of spite . At least worst case scenerio , the game would be accessible to people who are bad at videogames , i guess , as if we needed more of those types of games . Sigh.

I wish I could buy all my games full price, I would like to support developers more but the fact is were in a recession right now. The dollar doesnt mean all that much today and that means I just cant afford to game and still support developers for good games.

That usually means Ive gotta wait till the first price drop or catch the game on sale. With some games Ill wait a year or two till theyre in the bargain bin at $10-20

Free to play games for this recession are probably the best thing out there right now but there arent that many and of the ones there are there are few that fall into something besides popular genres like FPS or MMORPG

I can not think of a time I've bought a game for $60. I bought Dragon Quest IX, Pokemon Black, Valkaria Chronicles 2, and World Ends With You at full price this generation, and those are all handheld games at a smaller price. This year I've gotten a ton of games after adding window to my mac, now I have steam sales and humble bundles and free to play games meaning I haven't payed more then $20 for a game all year. A total of almost 40 games for under $100 over the entire year.

There's some sort of marketing concept, I think it's called 'Shaking the Tree' or something close to that. It's the idea that certain people will pay full price for something on day one. Conceptually, you drop the price a little and get a different section of consumers. Eventually you get to the lowest rung of the consumer ladder (Hello! I'll be waiting there!) where something is selling at such a low price it's probably costing more to keep it in stock. That's where vultures people like me come in.

The seller gets to sell as much of their product to the different economic tiers that are willing to pay different amounts. It makes sense, but I almost feel bad for companies. I'm a cheap bastard, and I often wonder if I'm hurting the economy. I'll never "download" a game though. You know what I mean.

In contrast I'll pay full price for a game from a company I believe in. Like Bioware. Not so much nowadays, but I used to believe in voting with my dollars. Still kind of do.

I rarely do. For instance, out of the dozens and dozens of games I have purchased this year, I only got 4 at full price. It isn't because I dislike new games, it is more because I am a cheap SOB and only buy games at full price when I really, really want them. Otherwise, I just wait till they go down in price, and pick up a ton of older and indie games on the cheap in the meanwhile. :p

Sometimes.

I average about 4-7 new games per year depending on the year. It all depends on what comes out. I would spend more if more interested me but half the games I am interested in that come out every year I have to approach cautiously. I dodged a the right bullets this year. I think I got 6 new this year and already have 3 lined up for next year's first quarter. A game has to hold a lot of promise for me to shell out 60 bucks in the hopes that the game is what I think it is/advertised as.

Very rarely. Here in Australia, from what I've seen, they're usually around the $60-80 mark, and I refuse to spend that much on a single game. Well... unless its name is Witcher 2, but, ahem.. yeah. So I do buy new games full price on the slightest of occasions, but not often. The majority of games I buy are older anyway, so price generally isn't an issue. As far as new games go, there are usually only 2 or 3 that interest me per year, so it isn't that bad. I'll buy the one I'm most excited for and wait for the others to go down in price.

I used to follow releases closely and got new releases frequently, but for the last few years I've been mostly just waiting for at least a year after release for the hype and price to go down before trying anything. Mostly what I'll do for AAA games is get a craving for that AAA experience and go out and buy a bunch of the ones I missed at the same time.

But what I'm mainly doing these days is exploring games I've missed from past gens, and indie/niche games.

Rarely. Mainly because I don't have a job yet.
I say rarely because I've only actually bought a new game at full price once (Skyrim, bitches!), but I would probably do it more often if I could. I'm too impatient to wait for price drops.

I generally only buy about 1 new release game a year, this year was a bit different as I bought 2 (Mass Effect 3 and Borderlands 2). So i guess that counts as "rarely". I buy a couple of games a year but generally they're older, or they're preowned

Well, Far Cry 2 has nothing in common with Far Cry 3. Except that it's an open world shooter. Far Cry 3 is also better than Far Cry 2. So you could skip Far Cry 2 and don't miss out on anything.

Just saying...

First of all my backlog is humongous, I buy more games than I got time for so unless there's a game I just really need to have (like Pokemon or Paper Mario) I wont buy them unless I get a deal I can't refuse. I wanted to pre-order X-Com and I plan on buying it, but there's just too much to play.
I'm having the same issue; a gigantic backlog of games. If I really didn't have any games to play, I might have bought X-com and Dishonored at full price. But now I'll just wait until a nice sale comes along.

Also, all those Steam sales and indie bundle sales really get out of hand. I'm getting games faster than I can complete them.
