Alright i understand now, it sounded to me like you meant you start out fighting a creature whick was essentially a walking skyscraper and it's impossible to kill. your idea sounds fun, how would that work in like a campaign mode though? it sounds a bit repetative, you don't have to win in the end but you've got to win sometimes.
Here's how it would go.

1. Initial confusion as to what the hell is happening.
2. Chaos as the world tries to defend itself.
3. Initial success in the defense
4. Slowly losing at an exponential rate until the end of human existence.

Also, you are aware of what the Quote button does, right?

1. ok that sounds like what i was thinking when i first read what you said (stupid re-reading things)

2. actually i've never really been sure what the quote button did, i do it this way just to be safe.

You'll have to have sanity points as well as hit points. Expect for yourself and most of your allies to drop in a dribbling incoherant heap of madness at a moments notice.

Definitely, watching your friends and those you looks up to slowly going insane, knowing that you will indeed be next.

Damn... I thought this was talking about the song by Metallica... Great song...

Actually, I think I'd enjoy it more if the game focused on taking down Cthuluites with bowie knives and Noob-Tubes!

Disclaimer: Fstghar Cthulu!!!

You know it. Who wouldn't want to face the thing that should not be? Hrm?
*shrugs* Who knows, maybe people who just want to kill things, hence my idea for something after you complete the campaign, an alternate version in which you do things Duke Nuke'em style

Ok ya I can see it, lets use sanity rolls to mess around with the players vision most notable friendly targets and "kin", gore areas raise the chance of you having vision issues.
Let me further explain it as best I can

This could be implanted on any game type, CTF or team death match, there are 2 teams with 3 sides kin monster and human, Kin are well the mutated fish people or humans that are infected. Monsters tend to avoid kin love to chew on humans but if they are hurt or pissed they will go after kin.

Monsters and Kin have sanity effects on humans as well as limbless and ground up corpses.

Sanity loss has a few effects basic sanity loss is blurred vision, next is can only see the level but player/AI models, next is friendly and enemy models are swapped, and the last is you reach a kind of temp enlightenment from insanity you go into bullet time and can take 100% more damage for a set period of time.

HP would regenerate real fast on full sanity or enlighten insanity and slower on any other sanity level. Its 3 or 4 times harder for Kin to roll sanity loss is blurred vision, next is can only see the level but player/AI models, next is friendly and enemy models are swapped but if they do roll it they get it for twice as long. And take double damage, they start out with twice the defense as human players and are a bit slower.

Less than human sized monsters are easy to kill, bigger monsters are invincible-ish and wander the map looking for human food and hurt kin to eat, when one is on a enlighten insanity roll they can do massive damage to the bigger monsters.

How dose that sound?

underrated metallica song in my opinion
So is the thing that should not be. Yet they were both on S&M and sounded epic.
not a huge fan of the thing that should not be to be honest. Among my friends that was the thing that should not have been on Master of Puppets, but we all are entitled to our opinions. Orion, on the other hand, is by far their most underrated song.

Well that's the very reason they're underrated eh? I personally don't care for Orion that much. But yeah, opinions.
indeed, diversity is what makes the world go round. awww now everyone can feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

I think the idea has alot of merit, instead of people complaining about the details of HP Lovecraft's work as a Shooter, we should develop what we got. Terrors from beyond destroying the planet, and out desperate struggle to hang on. Also if you ever read the d20 Call of Cthulhu RPG, you know there is a ton of very corporal, very physical baddies that would make all but Ash from Evil Dead piss them selves in fear. I think technically Cthulhu is killible in that RPG, if you can survive his regular attacks, permanent Sanity and stat draining attacks I think the OP got a good idea, if he works on it and some how get the game made, would be something I would buy. OP if you are going to make this into a game, I suggest taking a look at some of the Extra Credit Videos first, it might give you some insite on this project.
