I prefer to only play on Hardcore, with a small number of players (16 max). A good 5-5 match in Hardcore on a small map like Crash is a blast. With a decent ping, mouse/keyboard, and good hand and eye coordination, a G3 w/ silencer and the Dead Silence/UAV Jammer Perks is almost God like.

Yes, I play it on PC. Yes, I hate campers and spammers. Fortunately I'm really good at taking these no-skill tards out. Unfortunately, I get accused of cheating all the time because of it. I mean really. Not everyone that can go 80-10 KDR is a cheat, especially when the opposite team does nothing but sit on their asses and camp the same spots over and over again. And that's why I haven't played CoD4 for the past few weeks, got tired of being kicked for cheating my no-skill campers...

It's a good game, It's just so full of idiots and cheap weapons, when I play a game I want to have FUN, not win. There are free factors that make this game frustrating at times

-bad map design: lets face it, apart from a couple of gems, the maps are made in such a way when it is to easy to dominate by camping *looks at bloc*

-the terrible commuinity: when I play online, I have to mute everyone, because EVERYONE with a mic is a complete, and utter, moron; I wouldn't mind it if I could mute people in the lobby but no, I can't

-unbalanced weapons: alot of the guns are really good fun, and well balanced but it is just a few that really annoy me: the machine guns, they are just too powerful to be that accurate-for a game that prides itself on "realism", how can a soldier fire a heavy machine gun while standing up with little recoil? Surely they would injure them selves; at least give machine gunners a small disadvantage for being able to use those things, like being forced to go prone to fire them accurately. Sniper rifles also annoy me, as does the grenade launcher (if they just reduced the number of grenades to 4 or so and removed the aiming aide it would be less abuseable). I wouldn't mind these, but damn near everyone uses these.

-prestege mode: you're telling me to trade ALL my unlocks for an icon? gee, you sure are clever. People who just play the game to get the top prestige just seem sad to me.

however, the game still is chaotic fun, and it has a great story. just wish that it wasn't the ONLY game my friends who have ps3s play :(

I really did enjoy CoD, the single player was brilliant, and i thought the end was great, but my friend vehemently disagrees.

The online was awesome.

I would just like to say that i use the G3 silence, UAV jammer, Dead silence friggin ninja build in hardcore too.

We know there are morons who run around with an M14 noobtube, the larger explosion red perk, and martydom, so what do you do?

You just destroy them, and wish you had a mic to point out there folly.

cough

You learn to wait a few seconds after your kill, and NEVER run over recent kills. You learn to avoid spots prone to lobbed grenades.

And does anyone notice, that in a close game, like when your playing team tac, and its headquaters (HATE headquarters) and in the final seconds you come back to win?

Or how those last few kills to win, how its just so awesome you need to message your friend with your exploits?

That said i havent encountered this in Halo, or more recently, Bad Company (great game). Its more like, oh? Last kill, thats nice.

I also like how the came is sort of closer up. The maps are smaller and it feels a little more personal. In BC I don't even remember who killed me last with what.

I've never had a problem with guys with mic's.

Lastly, the killcam. You NEVER actually watch it, you tap square and try to get back in the action, but when in another game, you get killed out of nowhere, then you're like, where's my damn killcam?

The major flaw with the multiplayer is Helicopters. Takes too much to kill them (often an entire clip from an RPD won't take one down), and they can kill you in a split-second. It really unbalances the gameplay.

Or one shot by an RPG. If they annoy you so much then adapt your class to kill them.

I have (I have a class dedicated to taking them down), but in order to hit them I have to get into a position where I have a clear shot, which is normally where a sniper can easily spot me.

'Choppers are an irritation more than an impossibility.

Fair play, I know how bloody irritating they can be at times. I mainly play S&D these days anyway, I have nothing to fear/cry about then.

If you're playing against other skilled players, then it's hard to get and well worth the effort. If on the other hand you're dominating the other team, having the heli or not having the heli probably won't change that fact. There have been so many times when I've had the heli in Hardcore on a 15+ kill steak and I totally forget I have it. Then I pull it out at my next re-spawn just for kicks. I always kill plenty more than my heli ever does, so it doesn't both me that much.

I can't change the fact that there are no-skill tards with M203 launchers, Martydom, Claymores, and other 'cheap' tactics. However, I can make them pay dearly for such foolishness. Fortunately CoD4 has one of the best stress relivers and humilators around, the knife kill. They put it in there for a reason.

Maybe it's not as noticeable on the consoles, but in my opinion the MG's aren't that good. Maybe with controllers it's 'spray-and-pray' capabilities seem a lot nicer, but not so much on the PC. I'll take the increased mobility and accuracy of an SMG or assault rifle any day. A small burst to the head from an MP5 or M4 solves most of my problems.

Claymores aren't cheap. You can often run right past them and they'll only wound you. Same as Martyrdom - just back away after you kill someone.

Last Stand, though...I fucking hate Last Stand so much.

Also, as an emissary from the land of consoles, I can tell you not many people use the LMGs on Live either. Mostly campers or people going for the challenges.

Singleplayer is fantastic. Multiplayer is an overrated sack of shit. I played it on PC, so I don't know if the console experience was any different.

They should have just called the game Call of Camping 4: Grenade Warfare.

On the Xbox, in my experience at least, there's a lot more run and gun than camping. There's usually a few snipers, but nothing competent sprinting and cover use can't handle.

I never really liked the game, the single player was decent not as good as everybody makes out. The multiplayer was awful, the fact that if you are new to the game and so are not very good at it they give you dreadful guns and everybody else good ones. That stupidly unfair, before anybody says "Oh you are just bad LOL" no, I got through it but I am just pointing out the major flaw in it.

At the beginning you have the M16, the AK-47 and the MP5. Sure, the P90's better, but those are still 3 of the best weapons in the game.

I got it about a month after it came out, got to 55 within the week, played for maybe a month on and off and quit. Never have i met more nade spam, more spray-and-pray or just all round enjoyment.

...

I just don't see what is so great about the game.
so you played nonstop for the 1st week and now you don't know why people are as into it as you were?

your point just seems contradictory since i can't imagine playing a game i don't like for more than a day.

Here here. I never have much problem with campers at all on Live. Most people know where to look anyway, so you really can't hide.

The best online FPS is still CS:S, sorry peeps! BF2 was up there though..

But Single Player COD4 has blown away every other FPS I have played. I have never actually felt bad when a character died (outside of Cannon Fodder anyway) so getting nuked sucked!

I've only played the demo, so maybe I'm not that qualified to comment, but the demo didn't make me want to buy the game.

Having played in the comp scene (Dunno about the rest of you, and i won't say "lol noobz L2play" because most of the pubs are as stated a frag fest) i actually enjoyed CoD4.
It can be rather tactical, someone mentioned the tactical mods out there, never played on myself but i'm pretty sure i'd enjoy it.

As a casual game, multiplayer can get rather annoying. Hell the shipment map with 50 plus people is a nightmare and one i skip over frequently by putting myself in spectator mode to ignore the aggro.
I play it mostly on /20 server mostly, anything above that and it does become a toil.
However, you gotta look around for servers that you can enjoy, takes while but there are some that aren't absoloute cluster fucks of nades/lmg spammers.
I got bored of it eventually, but that was when it became a clan match only game for me and the pub stomping sessions went out the window.
Now i reinstalled it so i can have some good ol' fashioned fun again.

As for singleplayer though, i didn't enjoy it. That's where i feel weird about CoD4. I could be the only one who didn't like it at all. Seemed average to me and lacking any real fun or challenge.
That's me though for single player campaigns, i tend to get bored of them, so i wouldn't listen to me for that part.

I found that it is possible to have fun on CoD 4 multiplayer, even when you're getting your ass handed to you. In Halo 3, losing by more than 10 is usually a one way trip down misery avenue, and after several such defeats, I cant bring myself to play anymore because my urge to murder small children gets dangerously high. Whereas, in CoD4, I've gone entire days winless, and still didn't want to put the controller down. Maybe because you still get rewarded in a loss, or that dying doesn't feel as much of a punishment, or maybe I had RPG syndrome, and constantly wanted to level up, I don't know.
