It's a spinoff, so the chances of this being the direction that the main series is going in is very low. so, yeah I'm excited.
Keep in mind that this is a spin-off meaning that it most likely won't be considered canon. I'll admit that when I heard of the game's new placement in the timeline I was completely baffled because it completely negates any development Raiden had in MGS4 not to mention that MGS does not need any continuation past MSG4, unless its set several decades in the future. However, since its going to be a spin-off, it does not bother me, and I can look at it as a what if scenario rather than the official continuation.RagnarokHybrid said:I said MGS is dead but that doesn't mean Rising will be bad. It seems like Platinum Games released an action, sword-fighting game under the guise of Metal Gear. I'll likely get it and enjoy it irrespective of its title. So far, though, in my mind, MGS ended withGuns of the PatriotsPeace Walker.
I don't want to be dogmatic, though. Maybe Rising will prove otherwise once its out. I can't help but feel a bit sad, though. This is the series I literally grew up playing. To see what that trailer did to it... I don't know what to think anymore.
Didn't Snake (Otacon, really) pretty much extinguish technological warfare in Guns of the Patriots? Now they've got this new cybernetic thing going on which undoubtedly rivals the Patriots' technological capabilities kind of undoing everything that Snake, Raiden, and the rest of the gang fought so hard to get rid of. By this, I mean, now that every soldier is, literally, a robot, how hard would it be to instate combat control the same way that the Patriots did?
Raiden fucking got his cybernetics removed so he could start a family with Rose and Little John. Why the hell would he go back to the bad-ass ninja lifestyle that he took up when he left Rose? Can't get enough of the rush of war can he? I suppose that makes for an interesting psychological story but I honestly don't know if the devs thought that hard about it.
Sincerely,
A butthurt fanboy.
I think the problem some people have is that those two characters are a major driving force in the story those games take place in. Some feel that any game without them will fell like a cheap cash in. While Solid Snake's story is finished, IMO Big Boss could still use one more game to chronicle the events leading up the Outer Heaven uprising and his eventual transformation into the antagonist that Solid Snake would fight in MG1 and MG2. Also MG1 and MG2 are begging for a remake and it would help the stories of those two games mesh better with the rest of the Metal Gear games. Personally I'm hoping MGS5 will be the game to conclude Big Boss' story.That_Sneaky_Camper said:One spin-off game in the series that tries something new does not ruin the entire franchise, you should be glad that they are experimenting with something new. That sword-fighting looks smooth and intuitive in comparison to how clunky sword combat was in MGS2 and MGS4, so melee combat has certainly seen the kind of improvement the MGS games always needed. You should enjoy it not just because it will be a good game but because it also has the potential to be a good Metal Gear game at the same time it experiments with what we have seen. MGS4 and Peace Walker did nothing more than conclude Snake and Big Boss's stories, they are important to the story but we could still move on from there.
The problem is that the gameplay you descried was the original concept that the original team was working on before they got replaced by Platinum. While the concept may not have been completely abandoned, based on the trailer it looks less and less like stealth will play a key role in gameplay. However, despite this I'm still excited and I am looking forward to playing this whether its a hack slash or a stealth game.That_Sneaky_Camper said:I grew up playing Metal Gear too, but I don't feel like that trailer has ruined Metal Gear at all. From a gameplay perspective there is no reason a powerful player character can't also utilize stealth, as Batman Arkham Asylum and City both proved with their predator stealth (hiding from enemies and getting the drop on them from the shadows), just because the trailer didn't show Raiden using stealth doesn't mean he can't. Also Metal Gear games have always been well-known for their story, we honestly don't know enough about it to determine if it isn't of the same quality as the other games. Just wait until the game comes out and then you can properly judge it.
I'd prefer Bayonetta 2 myself, but that's more my personal fetish for women who wear glasses and have posh accents talking.wooty said:While I would of preferred a new release with the title along the lines of "Bayonetta 2", I guess this will suffice for now.
Sorry OP, but while I don't care at all for the game, I wish everyone would actually read the title. It's not Metal Gear Solid. It's Metal Gear Rising. This distinction may seem small but it matters. There is no Solid anywhere in it. This is like comparing Paper Mario to Super Mario. It appears to be a different franchise altogether.KnightOfHearts said:So ladies and gentlemen
How do you feel about the trailer?
Me, I felt pretty much the same as when I first saw Dantes new look...
It went something like; ZOOOMMMFFFFGGGGGGGGGGGGG THEY CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!!!!
Like more people should know the first two Metal Gear games existed :'(Palademon said:You know what. I wonder how the fans of the original Metal Gear series feel.
That's the mentality every person who doesn't want it should have; if you don't like the game, then don't buy it. Don't call it "gay", don't say it's the "death of the Metal Gear Series" just say you're not interested and that should suffice. I'm not a huge fan of Platinum Games, Bayonetta was fun and I haven't played Vanquish but I do enjoy their games.BreakfastMan said:Eh, bit disappointed. I liked what it looked like originally, so this change to what essentially looks like a DMC rip-off disappoints me. Probably won't buy it (honestly, I am not nearly enamored with Platinum as many here are), but, you know, that's okay. Don't have to buy games I don't think I will like.
