Well actually no and no. It has already been said that there will eventually be a metal gear solid 5 so the story really is not at its end. Also they pulled a 180 and scrapped the idea of having rising take place inbetween mgs2 and mgs4. Instead it is now supposed to take place several years after guns of the patriots. Platinum pretty much just took Raiden and scrapped everything else about the game.

They even said that Konami had the name changed to Metal Gear Rising to distance themselves from the project which should tell you something about it.
Eh, as for the story being at its end what more can they actually do? I was hoping Kojima knew that all good things had to come to an end, finishing with Metal Gear Solid 4 was perfect. As for the information about Rising, well I guess that goes to show my eagerness towards it, or rather the lack thereof.

I mean, the whole 'Riden tranformation' thing was the only interesting aspect of the project.

MGS is dead. It was supposed to end with 2, but they had to make 3 just to tell Big Boss's story.

Then the fans whined when Kojima wasn't gonna direct 4 and sent death threats, so then Kojima rage-killed all the villains (plus Snake in the nearest future) and made the Patriots out to be an anti-climax while Raiden finally reunited with his wife and son.

There's no fucking reason for the series to continue past what was a motherfucking SEPPUKU!

Eh. I like the MGS series, but I also like Bayonetta. The two mixed together could be a wonderful thing.

For now though, I'll reserve judgement.

It still seems kind of odd to me how they made this take place after MGS4 though.

I actually didn't really care about Rising before. I really didn't want a serious Metal Gear game starring Raiden to be honest. I thought MGS4 tried too hard to make Raiden cool and Rising was just going to try even harder. It's not that I even hate Raiden, he's an alright character but that's about it. However, now with Platinum at the helm, they are going to make Raiden cool in a cheesy, B-movie kind of way instead of in a serious way. His voice is already 100x more gravelly and his forgotten "Jack the Ripper" nickname from MGS2 is already being used to maximum effect. Plus, the gameplay is going to be top-notch with over-the-top epicness that Platinum is known for, and I'm gonna love every minute of it. So, this change of direction actually skyrockets Rising up my most anticipated games list.

wahhh, this looks different and change scares me! seriously people, stop freaking out over a game that you havent even played yet. you all knew, since it was first announced, that this game was going to be a hack and slash game with no stealth so why exactly are your surprised by this new trailer? the only thing that surprised me was how stupid the outfits of the soldiers looked

Nope, it's not called Metal Gear Solid but Metal Gear Rising.
The two things which I like the most about the MGS games, will be different in this game. The gameplay isn't at all like the one from Metal Gear and Platinum has rewritten pretty much the whole story. So, I doubt that the story will be similar enough to the MGS games.
It does plays in the same world and with some similar characters but it's a different franchise.
So it doesn't really bother me, they've said that they'll make MGS 5 anyway.
As for MGR, I'll wait until the game is out but I didn't like Bayonetta and if this game is similar I don't think I'll buy it.

I hope stealth is still in it in some form. Wasn't that the original plan for Rising? Improve the combat, but still include stealth as an option? Like MGS4, except swap the clumsy shooting for badass swordplay and have more of it.

I also hope they don't pull an Advent Children on us, and remove all of Raiden's character growth just so he's more familiar to us. There better be a damned good reason he's a cyborg ninja again, and if I don't see a change in personality, then...expect a strongly-worded post to appear, courtesy of my fury!!!

Its not Metal Gear Solid. I wish people would stop calling it a part of MGS. Otherwise it looks pretty cool and I can't wait.

Who says MGS5 would be after MGS4 (unless it has been announced that is the case) ... that sounds silly, I know but think of MGS3.

MGS3 was the story of the big boss and I am pretty sure he wasn't cloned 3 times 'cos of 1 mission. Hell, MGS5 could make you play as the boss and how she became the big boss's boss .... or for clarity's sake naked snake.

On topic. Fuck platinum, I don't like any of there games ... so fuck rising, which pains me to say. I just loathe hack and slash games, they are too simple and repetitive for me ... like racing games.

That's Metal Gear Rising not Metal Gear Solid, and maybe that game can be just as great as Metal Gear Ac!d.

No, I'm pretty sure he was cloned for his iconic status in the Patriots. Besides they've already patched up the gap between Snake Eater and Metal Gear. Portable Ops covers the founding of FoxHound and Peace Walker covers the transition to Outer Heaven.

Also we know what she did, she and the Cobra unit performed wet work during World War II for the The Philosophers. In the Metal Gear universe they practically won the war single handed. There is literally nothing to cover.

Rising isn't part of the main series, it's a spin off. It doesn't HAVE to be exactly like the rest of the series.

Also there is probably going to be stealth elements in the game, not just pure action people.

I look forward to it.

I actually quite liked the sword controls from MGS2 and it was more of a pain that you only used them for the last few moments of the game. The ones from MGS4... well, I don't really think they count because they were only really used and, presumably, made for online play. The free-slicing controls in Revengeance were really amazing but, from the trailer it seems like that tech's been undermined and put in only for gratuity. If you compare the Revengeance trailer to the following two, it seems like there's drastic shift in focus that the project took.

<youtube=CfgSoIUcbGI>
<youtube=AtM3PGyiQUc>

Also, people seem to be unsure as to whether or not this game really has stealth in it or not. Some sources say there's a lack of stealth so Bluepoint could exhibit their finesse while others say there is stealth because it's what Kojima Productions promised us from the beginning. The original E3 2010 trailer hinted at a stealth focus in the cinematic but the Revengeance trailer completely omits that.

One thing's for sure, though. Revengeance is just about the dumbest word I've ever heard for a game title. Vengeance and revenge already imply each other, there's no need for a specific word for "Revenge with a vengeance". I'm fairly certain that can't be refuted. But some cynic on this site likely will.

So ladies and gentlemen

How do you feel about the trailer?

Me, I felt pretty much the same as when I first saw Dantes new look...
It went something like; ZOOOMMMFFFFGGGGGGGGGGGGG THEY CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!!!!
first off, its not a metal gear SOLID game. metal gear is the story aspect, the solid/rising is the gameplay. this is rising, so completely different.

on topic though, im stoked. platinum have made some good titles, and they are good at what they know.
