Camping is pure bullshit when it gives the camper a point which is either nearly impossible to locate or gives him a very unfair advantage, making him a total nightmare to neutralize. Heres an example- Imagine a map that is made up of several long streets, some of them dead ends. One of them has a dead end and a small house, and it also happens to be right in front of a main objective. A camper inside the house shoots through a small hole in a wall/crack/window from which he, with his sniper rifle, can watch the entire street, but players that want to attack and kill him find that it is nearly impossible.
This is shit camping, and it just makes the game enter a stalemate.
The best solution I ever came across to this type of stuff is the destruction 2.0 mechanic used in bad company 2- It basically means that even if find the ultimate choke point camping spot, it can still by countered and destroyed by either tanks, or artillery, or shoulder fired rockets. TF2 also handles this well-it helps eliminate camping by providing a hard counter to the camper-the spy.

I only do it in halo because of the motion tracker. If I see someone but I'm not sure if they see me I'll stand still for a couple of seconds and see if I can't get the drop on them. Not sure if that qualifies as camping though since it's only for 10 sec and I never stay in the same spot.

I'm kinda sad, I thought this was a thread about camping outside.

OT: I don't play many multiplayer games but I can understand the hatred of campers. When someone camps, they aren't really an active player anymore; they become a trap. And noone likes getting fooled by traps. I personally don't like camping because I'd rather run around and do stuff, rather than wait for stuff to come to me.

Well, I think it has to do with getting back to our primal roots. I mean, who doesn't love a burger cooked on an open flame, a couple of brews and some Tragically Hip (or other classic rock) on the stereo? Personally, I don't see why more people don't...

Oh wait.

Yeah, it's a tactic. Spawncampers are cheap, but otherwise, it seems like it is only the idiot spastic thirteen-year-olds that complain about it, as they'd rather the entire match be a run-n-gun gong show or something.

I camp when 'm sniping, since in itself is the very nature of the class and relocate once certain values have been met, either is by number of kills or the enemy coming closer and closer etc. i found that a nice sniping spot is often not one of the "regular" camping places
since by this time a good 70% of players know these spots and all they have to do is blindly shower you with bullets and therefore kill you. i approach the "grassy knoll" technique that although by technicality IS camping it does require a deal of skill and over all patience.
however, when i have to use an assault class or configuration mt "camping" is limited to less than 30 seconds, and that is natural, watching windows, corners doors etc, "aim and cover".

No problem with campers. Just spawncamping is the problem. Noob-tubes across maps, that's cheap.
