With all the recent controversy over games like Hatred, has any game ever so repulsed or offended you that you think it should not exist?

Personally, my answer is "no". No matter how offended or disgusted I may be by a game, I'll never think that it should never have been made. Who am I to decide what is "acceptable" or not in a game, after all? As long as it appeals to a niche of fans and the developers are satisfied, how does a game's mere existence harm you? (And when I say "harm", I don't mean it as in "This hurts my feelings!")

The rule of "What should be made" is the same rule as "What should be made fun of":

Everything

I have zero interest in playing a game like Rapelay or Hatred but I would never say that they can't exist.

Generally speaking, I'm not too keen on games modeled after specific tragedies, like that Columbine simulator that came out a few years ago. That just seems to be taking things too far.

Hatred shouldn't exist, in my opinion. Not because of the supposed violence in it. It's not nearly as graphic as I was led to believe it be. But because the game was just made for shock value. That's all the game is. "Look at this shocking game! BE SHOCKED AND OUTRAGED!" And not only that, but it's done poorly. Looking at it just as a game, it's just so uninspired and half-hearted. There's barely anything to the gameplay either.

To put it simply. Remember when in GTA 2 you just wanted to go on a rampage and see how long you could last against the cops? They decided to make an entire game based just around that.

Something like that shouldn't exist, imo.

Not at all. To each his (or her) own. Just because I think something is shit doesn't change the fact that it is my opinion. I reserve the right to mock it and make fun of it, which is much more effective and entertaining, rather than whining about its existence.

EDIT: To specify, I'm talking about mocking and making fun of the game, not the people who play it. That's just silly.

four posts in and already "hatred shouldn't exist because reasons", stay classy People.

There are games that shouldn't exist, such as nearly all indie games, Spore, the Saints Row 2 PC port, Bubsy 3d, however they have a right to exist no matter how shitty they are.

Some games shouldn't exist, but they do for the sole reason to give them as gifts to people you hate.

Games that are clones of other games shouldn't exist. As in flappy bird etc clones. They should just all be squashed together into a single game genre puree. If all the people that were copying each other, instead just...joined forces and effort, something slightly greater than stagnation may occur.
I can think of a lot more films than games that shouldn't exist. Too many.

Hatred should not exist because the nuclear computer array's password is 666.

Anyways, of course anything can exist... and people can get as uppity as they like. Shocker: People can't unexist things in this society, so they actually ARE allowed to say things can't exist without it actually being a problem.

I'm sorry Dark Souls PC port, but a game that uses the 'Home' key as its menu button shouldn't exist.

The process of ever setting up a system that can decide what can or can't exist is far more risky than letting the occasional awful thing exist.

Nothing should be left to the unexistent... Everything should be right to the existent...

With that said, you can wish that it had better gameplay and/or execution with what the game in question was trying to do... For me, I may not like it, but by process of elimination, someone might and that's okay in my books...

I think it would take some Matrix level, 'Die in the game = die in real life' degree of harmfulness for me to doubt the wisdom of letting a game exist. Particularly if people were somehow unaware of this while playing it. This seems like an unlikely situation though.

People should be allowed to be as creative or uncreative as they want to be..... unless they're making xbox 1/ps4 "HD REMAKES" of 360/ps3 games......

My issue is sequel fatigue, or over-releasing a franchise. Just look at how Ubisoft craps out Asscreed games, it's not good.

People seem to be taking saying this game should not exist as being the same thing as saying that we should not allow it to exist. People should have the freedom to punch themselves in the face but in most situations it?s something they should not do. Everybody is so caught up in total control ideas of condemnation, saying that you think something bad is like saying you think everything to do with it is going straight to hell. Instead of you know, you think the world might be a little better off without it. So yes some games should not exist.

A consumer. There's nothing wrong with speaking out against a game. Heck, there's nothing wrong with boycotting or petitioning a game.

In fact, there are several types of games that I think should be legally banned. Custers Revenge, and Rape Lay, are two good examples. The second features the rape of an underage girl. Once you start crossing over into things like rape and child pornography, I lose all sympathy.

Of course a game can make me say it shouldn't exist. Mind you, whether or not it has a right to exist doesn't really have any bearing on the matter. Those resold Unity asset pack "games"? Shouldn't exist. Someone made that as a base framework to help devs make an actual game. Don't just resell that shit, have some freaking pride in your work.
