Simple enough, can an opinion be wrong?

By definition, opinion is not fact, and thus cannot be PROVEN true.
Yet when "discussion" happens among us (usually around the internet)usually about things of mere opinions I see many people (instead of justifying their opinions) dis-justify (you get what I mean) other people's opinions. Is this the right way to go about discussion? Is there ever really a "winner" in these discussions?

Just because people put "My opinion is" in front of something doesn't actually make it a opinion.
Take this into account. Although the above is just an opinion...or is it?

No, they can not. They can NOT be proven true or false, and they are completely made up.

Edit: Getting rid of the post content because I don't need 40 people quoting me, all saying the same things and telling me I'm wrong despite me being completely in line with the definition of the word opinion.

It is my complete an honest opinion that the moon is made of cheese!

OP: In the context of whether or not I like something or something is good it's a little harder to prove an opinion wrong, because most of them are subjective.

Never. It is a thought you want expressed. It's never wrong even if your the only one thinking.

Opinions can be wrong. If I say "in my opinion, a basketball is the shape of a cube." That is clearly wrong, even if i believe it to be true.

In my opinion, all black people are lazy, stupid and inferior.

Are we really saying that's not wrong?

An opinion about an objective fact can most definitely wrong, a subjective opinion cannot.

Yes they can be wrong. While opinions are based on feelings, some opinions are based on feelings towards the understood facts. If the facts that make up such an opinion are wrong, then the feelings towards the overall subject are possibly wrong (due to an improper understanding), thus making the opinion itself wrong.
My two cents.

Of course they can.

"My opinion is that people from New Zealand all have three legs".

That's not true. Yet it can still be an opinion.
Exactly. I am a believer in the fact that peoples opinions are worthless in the face of cold hard fact. So if someone comes and proves to me that each persons opinion is correct I will change my mind.

They can be based off of false information, so they can be proven wrong.

If it can be disproven with facts, yes

for example - Ed Wood thought his movies were great... fact was that he did not pull off the illusion of cinema effectively thus the audience were drawn from their suspension of disbelief

yeah, I am aware that all art is subjective, but if it doesnt work... it doesnt work

The audience must be able to believe in the end :(

That is not an opinion...that is just a false statement. An opinion is something that someone feels personally that cannot be proven right or wrong. For example, "I enjoyed the movie." You cannot say this is incorrect, because that person personally enjoyed it and it cannot be proven true.

I think that opinions can be both right and wrong. For the peson who has the opinion it is always right although it may be wrong for others. That's how I see it anyway.

No, but it can piss you off so much that you will literally bend reason in order to be able to tell yourself they ARE wrong XD..which I do alot on the internet =\. The free exchange of opinion and belief can get tiresome if you talk to too many people lol.

So basically. All opinions are neither true, nor false, unless proven otherwise. "I believe in a god" Can not be proven, nor disproven and is therefore, a perfectly valid opinion. "I believe that paper is made out of puppies" is wrong because we know that paper is made from plant fibres.
