I just installed Kingdom of Amalur, i didn't instal it where i wanted to, no biggy. So i go uninstal it, the go delete the EA Games file under C:, but then it says that i do not have the rights to delete it since i am not administrator.
oook... that's weird since im the only user on this PC.
So i go in the security part of the file proprieties,dont see anything too weird so i try again, still nothing.

Then i go in the advanced part of the security to see that all the acces + reading + modifying parts where checked on "refused" on my profile and the administrator group.

WTF???

So I dont think they can tamper with my files on my PC but with their horrible terms maybe they can.

But this is really fucked up, i kinda hope this goes on to consoles so everybody goes yelling at them and bash their heads with it.

That is weird, if EA did this intentionally, it's just another thing on the long list of dick moves they've been making in the past year. EA seems to want to ensure that they are even more hated than Activision, and they've got Bobby Kotick around to piss everyone off.

You might not be able to get rid of that folder if the administrator group itself is denied access. The only thing I can suggest is that you activate the administrator account, or change your account type to administrator if it isn't already, and try to delete it that way, or at least get the permissions changed. At this point if you do buy anything from EA, you're probably going to want to Sandbox it, hopefully that will stop it from ruining your system.

Just curious: did you have Origin running when you went to delete the files? I just went into mine, and deleted the demo I had of that game with about 2 clicks, with no complaints, but wasn't running Origin at the time.

I am pretty sure most programs often leave a setup of restricted files so you cant muck around with them while the program is running.

But im certain that most wont fuck around when you want to uninstall.

Get an admin account on your machine and baleet it.

Software can't run without tampering with the files. ;-)

It seems Origin changes the permissions of the directory it uses, which is pretty weird behaviour. Normally it isn't necessary because default permissions will do for user applications. This was also why it looked so odd on system monitors and part of the reason it was accused for being spyware.

I'm sure they can do it legally. You installed it and it doesn't do any harm. But it certainly looks incompetent.

If all else fails you can log in with the safe mode Administrator account and change the permissions. There is a hotkey for doing that, on XP you needed to hold F5 while booting Windows. I'm not sure if it's the same on Vista and Windows 7.

Stop. Buying. EA. Games. If. This. Bugs. You. Seriously. I am not attacking you. But EA will not stop doing stuff like this unless they are hit hard in the pocketbook. Negative fan backlash doesn't matter when they make all the moneys ever from whatever Madden, generic shooter, etc. that frat boys buy for the 360, PS3. But if we stop buying PC games which traditionally does not include the frat/douche demo we might be able to send a message. Over time. or not. Now I just made myself depressed. Thanks random internet guy.

i dont know the details, and i aint no computer expert, but if this was done by EA it gives me even more reason not to ever buy from them

Yeah. We'd probably just screw up Bioware while leaving all the truly evil parts of EA intact. Would have the opposite of the desired effect...

This is a problem with the OS not Origin. FFS, I know Origin is not very good but there's no need to cause a witch hunt.

The cause is rather vague however often enough you'll find that there's an .exe running that's preventing the directory from being altered....Often enough again, you'll find it's related to the files or it's the file itself.

How?
If EA have no money, they will be forced to change, or it's bye-bye EA.
And Bioware seem to be slipping a bit, I've only played DA:O and it was pretty average.
As far as i'm aware ME2 is the reason everyone loves them so much.

OP: It's EA, and you did sign an agreement. Can't help you there other than to tell you to not have origin running while you do so or to just uninstall origin.
