It's 2012.

Why is anyone still buying EA games?
Because they`re good. The only series I`ve ever seen from EA that was ever bad was the EA Sports franchise.
The sports games, well FIFA anyway probably the others if they evolve like FIFA, are worth buying every five years or so. I don't understand buying one every year though.

Unlike some people I have actually read the Origin EULA and Privacy Policy. There is nothing there to be worried about. There is only one problem with it, and that is the fault of the US Supreme Court/AT&T. I don't see people abandoning Sony for the same practice.

Well you've made it quite clear that you don't like EA but now you're just being annoying. Either just make your post and move on or grow some of your own brain cells and figure out that this wasn't EA's fault, it was somebody pirating one of their games.

Why are we still pulling this shit? The Escapist community is supposed to be about games and why we love them. Not hating on EA because of something that wasn't their fault.

Possibly, but unlikely. If he installed the demo, that means either from Origins or Steam. He said he never installed Origin, which leaves Steam. The thing about Steam is that it installs all your games to a single location. Plus, he'd probably have the sense to write that he used Steam.

Perhaps there is another way of getting the demo, I haven't looked into it. If so then I'm wrong and it just sounds like some generic Windows crap.

But, I'm fairly confident when he said he didn't purchase it, he didn't mean he's using the demo, either...

Is the demo available legitimately anywhere other than Origin and Steam?

If its not, then OP evidently got something funky in his torrent.

If it is, then its probably a Windows error and we get to toss shit at Microsoft for it.

Except Mr Man, he said it installed to C: EA Games, not C: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common. Which would be the Steam install directory. Since, according to an article on PC gamer is the only location to acquire the demo (I could be wrong).
If we take him at his word he installed the demo on Steam. He says this in another post (edit: thread);

It does seem odd that it's installed outside the steam folder, but he might just be confused, games normally install in program files not direct to the C:\ as he's stated.

Regardless responding with "lol pirate, got what you deserved" isn't helpful or fair.

Why would someone pirate this if they weren't sure about it when there's a perfectly good demo available.

I will never instal Origin on my computer in it's current state, maybe if they become more human and ot those robots who have money runing in theire veins.

And it might be a windows issue.
You start a riot against EA by claiming that your pirated game doesn't work because EA is 'blocking access' to your hard drive, (you know how much people around here already have distaste for EA) and expect people to be sympathetic with you? That's disgusting.

Aside from the fact you're a complete newfag for complaining about a bad torrent (if that's the case. Seems to be confusion as to whether it's a demo or torrent) get yourself Move On Boot. Free piece of software that will delete specified folders or files on boot.

Stop. Buying. EA. Games. If. This. Bugs. You. Seriously. I am not attacking you. But EA will not stop doing stuff like this unless they are hit hard in the pocketbook. Negative fan backlash doesn't matter when they make all the moneys ever from whatever Madden, generic shooter, etc. that frat boys buy for the 360, PS3. But if we stop buying PC games which traditionally does not include the frat/douche demo we might be able to send a message. Over time. or not. Now I just made myself depressed. Thanks random internet guy.
^^ Simple solution, right there, one I've already bowed to keep doing, no matter how awesome Mass Effect 3 becomes and don't even get me started with UbiSoft. Until they change their BS policies, maybe I'll reconsider buying their games. NO, I'm not buyin' yer stinkin' consoles.

Edit: Scratch that, I didn't read the whole thread (again), and seeing that this is a case of some random scumbag butthurt because he downloaded a bad torrent, I'll simply press the Report button and be done with this thread.

Ok, ill come out and say that i stand corrected.

But then what is the OP directing hatred at EA for? 38 Studios is not owned by EA and seemed to have retained majority control of the project while it was in development.

Yes i know the EA logo appears on the game, but consider that its merely a funding deal? Its not as common as it used to be, but game publishers still do those.

I think its just a default thing that kicks in every once and awhile.
I know its happened to me before, but there was a button that said, "Do it anyways" or something to that effect.
I don't think EA did anything unless you accidently tripped a DRM trip-wire.

Classic.

"This is why people pirate"... except the problems they have with games are due to buggy torrents not the developers/publishers. Yeah, we believe you when you tell us pirating is easier than going legal.

I'm amazed at all the people posting that he's a pirate. That's not the way communication works, you read and then you write, or we're all just shouting into the wind.

Did you actually try to delete the folder by pressing the delete button? Or did you go into the add/remove programs place and press uninstall? Some games I've played didn't allow you do just delete the folder itself (because some registry files goodies or something).

I haven't bought an EA game since the lord of the rings return of the king came out. That was donkeys years ago.

It was a terrible game, with draconian DRM. Never again EA, never again. Also, all they release is crap, so meh.

That! Who in their right mind still buys anything with EA's name attached to it anyway?
I do. I have SWTOR, the Dragon Age series, and all the Harry Potter games. EA never did anything to me.
I repeat, who in their right mind with any sufficiently functioning brain cells and doesn't like getting raped up the ass...?
You know what, this fucking witch hunt on EA has gotten tiresome. EA is a publisher, and they are in the business of funding and selling video games. I have no idea what issue people have with them. I`ve read Origin`s terms of service. It is no more spyware than Steam is. The only info they collect is system specs so they can know what the average PC gamer is using.

This usually means their games are going to be better optimized, as they can tell what processor, RAM and Video card you are using. The same information that is accessible to anyone who can type dxdiag into a command bar.

So what is it then. Their monopolizing of games, maybe. But the only franchises they own that are in any way stagnating are Battlefield and EA Sports.

Oh I know. It`s the DRM and online passes they are trying to do.

The last three Jimquisitions shed an interesting light on the state of gamers and piracy. Most gamers think it`s okay to pirate a game if the publisher or whoever owns the rights to a game is wealthy. And anyone who pirates an indie game is worse than Hitler.

EA is wealthy. Gamers enjoy pirating from wealthy people. Looks like EA has to protect themselves.

Suck it up.
No, my issues with EA have nothing to do with Origin or DRM or any of that. Although it certainly doesn't help that they're determined to fight piracy by screwing over their legitimate paying customers every chance they get, but then everyone seems to be into doing that these days.

Im beginning to get a vibe of an EA witch hunter here. Play a little bit too much Spore did you?

You see, unlike you i intend to give EA another chance, next year, but a chance all the same. Ill get Origin, buy and download Command and Conquer Generals 2, install then play it, then decide for myself whether EA deserves all the bad PR its getting for one line in its EULA.

Or ill simply join the witch hunters who are going at them for making terrible games. C&C4 was not a pleasnt experience, Generals 2 has a high bar to leap over for the sheer awfulness of its predecessor.
No, I've never played Spore. And I don't do witch hunts. But you'll have to pardon me if I seem a little cynical after reading thread after thread about gamers bitching and whining about this company or that company and yet are still willing to come back and take more crap from said company. Really it's no wonder game publishers won't take gamers seriously, we can't commit to anything. Incidentily, I had no idea that comment would be so poorly recieved and I was in a foul mood when I posted it. I'd go back and edit it if I could, but I've already recieved mod wrath for it so I can't.

Yes yes, I realized that the OP had pirated the game AFTER I'd already made that post. SORRY.
I still hate EA though, I'll just try to keep it to myself more.

If you didn't buy it I'm going to guess you pirated it. I know that's not the only explanation, but it is the most likely one. But did you know that if you buy it on Steam you're not giving any money to EA since they're not the publisher on Steam? That's what I did and I'm a happy camper.
