There is no limit to humour, just good and bad taste as well as personal preference.

I draw the line at dead babies. It's not so much that I'm offended, just that there are no circumstances under which I would find them funny.
Really? What if there were cartoon squirrels as well?
Personally, I lose it every time.

I saw a picture of Jesus knocking down the twin towers. I was not offended. Why? Because what's the point of being offended? Since there isn't a point I wasn't offended.

I would say bullying someone so you can laugh at them is a case of humor gone to far.

I'll admit, I might have smiled. Chuckled even. And now I hate myself. So thanks!

If that's offensive, well I guess I'm royally fucked in the head haha. Conversations with my friends tend to go to some very dark and fucked up places but it always is hilarious at least to us.

nope, unless you are willingly antagonizing someone by using the jokes to try and jab at them with hidden agendas, i couldn't give a fuck what you use at a joke, by all means make jokes at my expense, i'll laugh if i find it funny, if not, well, cool? glad you had a laugh.

common sense can be applied to some of these situations, but more often then not someone who gets offended by it goes out of their way to show they are offended and wants compensation for their being offended.

fuck those people.

So recently a friend of mine showed me this image:

And the question "Is there a point where humour can be taken too far?" was raised. So I figured why not ask the Escapist's community.

What's your opinion? Can humour never go too far because someone will always think it's funny, or should it not be taken too far, like this image might have for some people?
ahahah saw that like a year ago I think. And there was a Jewish guy who found it hilarious or something

If it is a joke, I have no complaints and will laugh if it is good, but making stuff like "yo mamma" jokes to a person who lost their mother is just mean-spirited and a bit too far.

Also, doing an offensive joke for the sole purpose to be offensive and not funny is also not cool (not to mention pointless)
As a person that lost their mother I can say that I find yo momma jokes hilarious. Especially when you turn them around on supersticious friends.
Friend:"Yo momma-"
Me:"Is gonna crawl out of her urn and haunt you every moment of your life?"
Friend:"..."
Me"Hey look! Shes moving that tree branch next to you!"
Friend: *starts flipping out in fear*

Endless amounts of entertainment.

I don't believe that humor can ever go "too far". A joke may not be for everyone but that doesn't make it less funny or worthy.

Humour can't go too far, but the farther you go the bigger a dick you are if you're not funny, like the image in the OP.

Depends on the audience.

Humour can never go too far, however it can be insensitive and rude to use certain types of humour around certain people. Saying this to my English teacher has a 50/50 chance of getting a laugh out of him - cause he finds this sort of stuff funny, and enjoys games and internet pictures a lot - or on having gone too far - as he is Jewish and a number of his family members were exterminated by the Nazis during WWII, though this doesn't stop him making Nazi and Jew jokes.
However, bring this out at a party where everyone loves pokemon, and is capable of understanding it means no offence to anyone, and its far more likely to get a good reaction, and not cross any lines.

Its like something that happened a year or so back during the temporary return of "Hey Hey its Saturday", and Australian TV show. A group came on acting as the Jackson 5. Not being black, they had black face paint on, except the guy playing Michael Jackson who had white facepaint on, and they did a song and dance. Pretty much everyone loved it, and found it funny or entertaining. There was some American guest judge or whatever who for some reason took deep offence to the face paint issue, and there ended up being apologies and everything because whilst the humour wasn't bad, and most people had no problem with it, with that one person added to the mix it became the wrong audience, and probably inappropriate to show.

A joke can't go too far, but people can go to far with a joke. There's a time and a place for jokes like that. On the internet it's always time, when your friend introduces his jewish girlfriend is probably not a good time.

No, humor can't go too far.

It's all about people's personal tastes in humor. I for one found the image in the OP to be humorous, while I'm sure many would be greatly offended.

As a general rule, no. NOTHING is off limits to humor.

However, there are incorrect groups to present that humor to.

For example, I adore that picture you posted and the humor is perfect for 4chan and similar places, but I wouldn't present it at Thanksgiving dinner at my parents house.

A brony posting a Hitler/pokemon joke from 4chan on the escapist, my mind is blown.

I say yes. Offensive is relative, but personal attacks can often go too far really quickly. The old "sticks and stone" mentality isn't very true, as words can hurt, and often much worse.

I'm reminded of something Joan Rivers said once; she was mean to practically everyone, made fun of people and was just ruthless. On one occasion she'd made jokes about, I think it was Willie Nelson, and these jokes would up leading to his children being harassed by other children where they live. She admitted that was one time she regretted what she'd done. I'm black, I've gotten a lot of racism where I live by adults, kids, you name it, anyplace I go I know before I go there that I will be a target. I accept that because I have to, but if I'm getting treated by my doctor for something, hearing him make derogatory remarks at the expense of my ethnicity for the same of a few laughs with a nurse or anyone else within earshot would make me feel unsafe, even if said safety issue was merely imagined.

I strongly disagree that what doesn't physically hurt is painless.

No, but you have to actually be funny, and that gets harder and harder to achieve when you're being offensive.

There used to be line when it came to determining how far you can go with humor before it becomes more offensive than funny but with the internet these days that line has long since been destroy and now kits hard to tell where to draw the line at.
