we have to take into consideration that humans can evolve. Maybe this aura stuff is one of the directions the human race will evolve towards.
What possible selection benefit could it bestow and why are humans the only ones to get it?

Perhaps it's the next step. The phase after sentience.

I have never been so confident as to state what how nature will bend our species and drill our behinds. I really haven't. I am just pointing out that it is a possibility.

See auras? No. Detect a presence? Yes. I can feel when people are behind me, or around me when its dark.

I can see in ultraviolet.

What? You can't prove I can't.

...Okay, you can with the ultraviolet powder, but still.

For years people have thought I was making things up as I would tell them that I can see things around people. These things I had later defined as "AURAS" or "QI". Apparently This is not overly common. I have learned to use this in many advantageous situations, for example I have a strangely accurate ability to find people in an area even if I cant see them. I simply feel if a person is there or not. If this feeling gets strong I can see a very slight color displacement around their person (or if it is dark, where their person should be). Can anyone else elaborate their feelings on this? Maybe someone else has this unique ability, do you care to share? What do you think?

I can understand what you are speaking of.
I believe in Auras...every body has energy and a soul, and I believe strongly in Angels also.
What you speak of is not in your head, I think it is a great gift and you should cherish it.
Can you see dark or weak auras around bad/evil people and bright auras around good people?
Is that how it works?:)

Sorry, but it truly is all in your head. Like those videos of people creating balls of "ki" or "energy" with their hands: it's all a load of rubbish. Most likely it's synethesia, the fact that (as someone already pointed out) peripheral vision is more photosensitive than focused vision.
And like many people said, most humans can subconsciously detect things like footsteps, smells, changes in the air, etc, that clue them in as to what is around them.

Interesting note: certain brain abberations can cause people to "see" sound. Just want to point out that little tidbit - just because you see something doesn't indicate you're seeing an aura (or, the inherent energy of a person per the usual new age definition). Could be anything from a defect in the eye, to an odd connection in the brain, to insanity. Of course, it could also be a super power of some kind - might want to check and see if you can deflect bullets, or something as super powers usually come in groups.

You say that like there's a predefined sequence of phases :/

I'm just saying evolution is the wrong word to describe this phenomenon, if indeed it exists, which it doesn't.

I don't read people very well, nor do I pay attention to Auras and such.

But I do believe that people have been healed in miraculous ways that defy scientific odds. It has been explained by Chi, Qi, Ki, Helot, Auras, hypnotic suggestion, psychic interference, and the power of God.
And it happens just enough so that right when people think these beliefs are dead, they come back.

*does the 'bad statistics' and 'logical fallacy' dance*

Okay, anyone who thinks they can "see" auras or "sense" anything paranormal:

It's called the Restorff Effect. Basically, the times when you've experienced something "paranormal" are more well remembered than the times when you didn't. Similarly, look up the "Availability Heuristic". It's nothing to be ashamed of, since all people do it. That said, though, I would encourage you to keep an eye out in your day-to-day life. And do it honestly. Ask yourself whether something happens "all the time", or if you just remember the times when it has happened. Ask yourself whether you "always" see auras, or if you just sometimes get a feeling and happen to be right.

There's nothing to discuss. It's bunk and that's proven.

Unless you can prove otherwise, of course.
I don't care whether its been proven or not (here's a hint Einstein: send him a link or something)....don't go flaming stuff just because you can.
