Capitalism has given me most of my favorite things so I support it. I heard people argue that Communism failed because it lacked suitable leadership or just came to the place at the wrong time but I think that human beings function best as selfish, egoistic creatures.

I would hope that people would pick capitalism, for it is what this country was founded on. Not only that, but socialism is what burns me up the most, nothing makes me more frustrated than working REALLY hard to make something for my life and then it's taken away by some lazy people because they don't want to work hard themselves. Get an education and work at it!

Pure socialism would ensure that everybody had a job and the economy stayed stable, but everything would stay the same. Everybody would spend the same amount of money to buy slightly differing products meaning no advancement. A capatlist society is the only way to move forward efficently what insentive do people have to make innovations or work harder if there accomplisments are shared by the public. I think capitalism is the way to go. Socialism is for a perfect world, we don't live in a perfect world.

capitalism, i'm not an expert but i don't socialism or commmunism ever working that great. india is socialist, and look how poor the people are. china(with the exception of hong kong which is extremely capitalist), same thing their communist and their people are poor as well.
This is true, but both India and China are developing nations anyway, so I don't think socialism or communism have anything to do with their wealth. Also, the Soviet Union didn't embrace communism the way it was originally designed, so it was doomed to fail simply because it made economy (in general) publicly owned, but not the government itself, so it didn't really have any chance of working. Also, with the USA always claiming that they believed in "Self-determintion for all countries" then invading any that decided to be communist, they really limited the ammount of countries that could attempt to make communism work, so that was really their fault.

P.S. sorry if I keep posting in my own forum, but I feel quite strongly about this, and I love topical debates rather than the dull, repetitive jabbering that I have to put up with at home. And for anyone who is wondering, I put Nazism on there so that anyone who wanted to be "funny", and by that I mean someone who wanted to waste my time, would have something to put without committing to the actual discussion

This
These.
Actually, socialists were around before Marx's ideas, and Marx even went on to criticise them (socialists) in The Communist Manifesto.

Nazism should not be on there, it'd be like putting the Republican or Democratic parties (or any political party) on there.

You basically just put on two choices: individualist or collectivist government. Writing out a bunch of permutations of the same political philosophy seems unnecessary.

Communism works on paper but those capitalist bastards raping and pilaging the world for the all mighty doller will never let it work, (some) people are, by nature, greedy assholes. Thus it will not work.

I'm all for socialism! Especially in Ireland with their F.E.E. campaign to keep me from having to drop out of college because I wouldn't be able to afford the fees no matter how hard I work. :)

Were people choosing fascism to be ironic?

Capitalism, because I like owning a computer and every single Socialist/Neo-Marxist I've ever met has been a middle-class wanker.

Close, and essentially correct. Modern communism comes mostly from Marxism, but socialism predates Marx.

I generally support a system that has well established limits and regulations on the economy, but the government does not interfere within the system after it sets the rules. Basically closed course, but you can do what you want within it.

It's hard for me to say, since each system is flawed to a degree, capitalism leads to curruption in buisness and the forming of diverse social classes that slowly drift apart (rich become richer and the poor poorer). Communism leads to curruption in government, deterioration of personnal rights, and the almost inevitable totalitarian state that will form. I quite like india's system because it keeps big-business under control while allowing capitalism on a personnal/small-business level (even this system has it's flaws).

As for anarchism (you probably thought that I would mention it first); True anarchy almost always leads to mass chaos and the quick formation of a makeshift government system. However, I do believe that modern governments have become too currupt and controlling, and need to be reformed, cut down to size, or even overthrown in some cases to start the process agian (no government can stay together and in the people's best intrest forever).

I like the way that the ancient chinese dynasties operated around the "mandate to heaven". A dynasty would rise to power fixing the mistakes and curruption of the previous one, then over time (anywhere from 50-500 years depending on it's stability) it would age and slowly become currupt until it was overtherown, starting the cycle once agian.

Actually, Marxism is a form of Communism/Socialism. Communism was a theory long before Marx.

Anyway, I'll be in the sad pedant corner if anyone needs me. Ahem.

yes they are developing nations, however it can take up to several years to get the right to start your own buisness in india and China(excluding hong kong). now in hong kong which is very capitalist because of british influence decades ago is an extremely succesful city; people can start a buisness and set up a shop within an hour. no matter how poor they are, they're all given the opportunity to succeed.

Socialism and communism only works if the leaders aren't corrupt and know what they're doing and if all the people are selfless/hardworking. asking that from a country is like asking a midget not to be short(yes, the latter part of the last statement is a quote from yahtzee). Failure to meet those requirements will result in bizzare scenarios where an honest hardworking person = a lazy sack of shit down the road dealing out heroine, well as far as wealth goes.

I don't understand why some think capitalism will cause bigger separations between the rich and the poor. Isn't capitalism the reason that there exists such a concept as middle class? what other system provides for a middle class and the ability to move up? It seems that historically when other forms of government exist the rich stayed rich anyways but the poor got poorer only now without any hope of moving up or making things better for themselves.

Capitalism isn't perfect, but with the proper government regulations enforced, and some socialism mixed in, it is the best way to give everybody the same fair chance at life.

O HAI! I would like to introduce myself to you as the first working-class wanker you'll meet who is a socialist then.
