I'm a bird lover.

I'm OK with house cats but dislike when people let them outside, for obvious bird related reasons.

Ah, anecdotal evidence.

The best kind.

How ever can I stand up against such proof? ¬_¬
I had almost forgotten how everyone on the internet is a massive ****! Thanks for reminding me, I almost started to care for my fellow human.

Cats suck ass as pets. No thanks...
Dogs have far more personality as well, at least they're worth the effort.

cat piss smells the worst, there crap smells the worse. the worst part is when the owners let there cats roam the streets. then the cats only return home when they want to be fed.

Each has their pros and cons.

Dogs are much more playful, problem is they tend to be attention wh$%#. They do tend to be messier, and they turn your back yard into a minefield. Oh, they are a hell of a lot more loyal. They will greet you at the door with a tail wagging and it brightens up your day. Cats on the other hand just dont give a F. Overall dogs seem to have a higher potential to annoy you. Plus cats are more cuddly, dogs will kick you off your own couch and/or bed.

that said i like them both.

I grew up with cats all my life, and I love their species immensely. I have never had a dog however and sometimes I think that I would enjoy a dog better than a cat.

It is all about what kind of traits you want in a partner. It looks like it is easier to bond with a dog, not only can you do more with them, they seem more loyal, more happy to be your friend and they will protect you.

Voted other; in some countries they're a value menu item.

I'm a dog lover. Better to have a cheerful friend always happy to see you and so terribly sad without you than an aloof companion who's needs you serve and that may or may not favor you at their leisure.

Meh, talk to me when the cat starts fetching beer.

this combined with the fact you can teach a dog to drive a fucking CAR. a CAR people, makes me wanna side with the K9's. plus, loyalty, a dog will actually miss its owner, that goes a long way in my book.

granted cats are prettier and over all more regal, but unless they're a 'mouser' or friendly,(our cat is both, but the dogs are better at killing small animals) it just a stuck up and useless creature you keep in your house.

where as even a violent breed of dog (like a Pitbull) can be raise to be mellow, if you cat is a mean cat, there's not much you can do about it to fix it. the independent nature will pretty much ensure that a mean cat will end up in a shelter.

plus, we've had several cats in my life time, 4 or 5, only 2 have been 'cool' (the one we have now, and one that we had that before that was born with a defective liver :/) where as we've had countless dogs there where just awesome.

and to further back Daystar.

I'VE NEVER CRYIED CAUSE WE GOT RID OF A CAT, WHERE AS I'VE CRYED FOR THE LOSS OF SEVERAL OF OUR DOGS

Girlfriend loves cats unquestionably but she likes dogs because puppies (she is loving like that)... Now, I can't stand cats myself but big dogs make me do a big rubbery one... After countless hours of reasoning and stating qualities of both cats and dogs (both of us being reasonable people, unlike some people *cough* OP *sniffle* :D) we've come to the groundbreaking conclusion that this choice has very little to do with the animals and much more to do with people and their personality and psyche. To put it veeery simply - people who have the inner desire to give love (it's how she put it) and take care of creatures prefer cats and small dogs. Women are psychologically more loving and caring then men hence the love for cats (not disregarding you cat loving dudes out there... but the ladies own that spectrum) while people who are interested in being the recipient of love (which translates to loyalty or even honor in many cases, appeal to the males... again, dog-loving galls, be forgiving) prefer dogs.

I guess the point is that one should't translate his own needs and preferences to the innocent animals...

Personally, I'd take my 250lb St.Bernard over any cat. No other creature can be more hugable while being intimidating at the same time, short of a bear, I guess... And he still gets along with my woman's cat duo because he is a gentleman like that...

More personally, I prefer to love and care for my woman unquestionably and have a loyal buddy at my side... But to each his own.
