Cats! Primarily because my own personality is extremely cat-like, and I hate barking. However, my dad is allergic to cat dander and I'm too young (and too unemployed) to move out, so I'm stuck with dogs. Well, generally speaking, since we used to have one but don't at the moment.

"Here's another mystery: why is it so common for people to think you can like cats or dogs, but not both?"

Yeah... where's the "both" option?

Dogs and cats both have their place in the world.

It's a vs. thread. It's not do you like cats and/or dogs, it's a popularity contest.

I'm allergic to cats, I love kittens, but I hate cats, because they just become anti-social and want to run away.

...and I love my puppy!

I had a cat when I was a kid, I loved Garfield. Nowadays however I am much more interested in lazy dogs. Flat faced dogs like the bulldog especially. I am considering raising one soon, though I am still paying off my 37' tv/monitor, so that may be a while. If anyone has any tips on selecting/raising a bulldog, hit up my PM box. (That will keep this thread on topic.)

Have to agree with you there. My dog is more of an attention whore than any cat I've ever dealt with. Seriously, cats hate me. Only problem ever had with 'cats crawling everywhere' is they seem to liek to get ontop of my fridge. Dogs are far more picky than cats. A spoiled dog will starve itself half to death before touching dog food, cats will just resort to hunting.
And the danger thing: That was just a stupid one to bring up. Animals understand that size matters, alot. And no animal understands this more than a cat, which tends to give them a very high respect for the flight or fight instinct.

And I have yet to see a man pickup a girl simply by walking his Brittish Mastiff. Seriously, the only dogs that "help", are the cute low maintinence ones that don't drool and can do the sad dog look well.
actually my old 20 pound terrier would ALWAYS try and help me if you screamed in pain or there was any danger, cats WILL flee or not pay attention, this is even from my "cat ppl" friends they agree cats will leave

have you ever thought you were trying to force the wrong food on your dog? maybe try changing the food, they aren't really picky eaters just don't like certain things, compared to cats who will only eat one thing, dogs won't eat one or two thing.

also for the crawling part, if i had a dime for every time i heard "my cat is behind my computer in the cables and is " i'd be rich

and yeah bull mastiffs can pick up chicks, teach it a few tricks or go play frisbee with it at the park, you'll find someone without much work

I like them both equally. they both rule, but in different ways.

I'd probably buy a dog instead of a cat, though. Cats can stink a place out in ways that dogs never manage.

depends on your situation, if you have a tiny living space (apartment or really small house) dont get a dog. bigger and need more space then cats.
if you arent home constantly then dont get a dog or they will end up crapping everywhere waiting for you.
if you have anything valuble....anywhere. dont get a dog, they tend to chew/break/eat anything not bolted to the ground.

But mini pigs are the still the best.
Mini pigs? MINI PIGS? Argg! Lamest pet ever. When I was growing up though I had a neighbor friend who had a pet hog. A freaking huge hog. I didn't believe him when he said he had a pet hog, but he whistled for it and it came a'runnin', all six hundred pounds or so, to get scratched behind the ears. When he quit scratching it waited for a moment, little tail wagging, until it was sure no more attention was coming. Then it trotted back to its cool place. They're really smart, but it just seems really messed up to me to make a pet of the one of the animals you raise to eat. (Though I don't think they ever ate that one.)

I prefer cats, although I also like medium and big dogs, but you have to remember: To a dog, you're family. To a cat, you're staff. Usefull and perhaps even beloved staff, but still staff.

Other: Both. I've got two cats and a dog... The thing is they both have their pros and cons and despite their usual indifference cats can be very affectionate. Our one cat likes to lay across people's chests and sit face to face with them. While my dog loves everyone and everything and won't hesitate to curl up with me on a cold night.

Though I'd LOVE to have a large lizard or snake. Really I love most anything scaly. <3
