Hey! I like Paul Gray! He and the band of 9 introduced me to metal, so I am a little upset...

I'm only sad if it's someone I actually liked, but even then it's not can't-stop-crying sad. For instance, when Heath Ledger died I was seriously bummed, but not crying my eyes out. I think I talked about it for all of five minutes with my sister, felt bummed, then went back to playing L4D with my boyfriend.

The majority of the time, I honestly have no idea who they were anyway, so I don't have any reason to be sad. It's not like I knew them personally or something.

I found it pathetic that millions of people went to Micheal Jackson's house to leave flowers.
I assume when you die you want everyone to piss on your grave?

Its common courtesy. There's no reason you shouldn't pay your respects. A little while ago I found out that an Escapist member's brother was dead. I paid my regards. I didn't know the brother at all, I only barely know the member. But its just the nice thing to do.

And remember, a celebrity can have dramatic effect on someone's life. Micheal Jackson was THE celebrity of the 90s. I mean the guy was legendary. There's no reason not to be saddened, or at least pay respect by a persons death.

The only times I was ever sad from a celebrity's death were when Billy Mays, and Ronald Reagan died.

I'm only disappointed that I won't see them in movies or hear their songs or whatever anymore. And that's really only if I liked them to begin with. Other than that, no, I don't really care.

Though I was tempted to vote for...

It depends on how much I liked said celebrity in the first place. I would certainly be upset but it wouldn't cause me to be grief struck largely because I didn't even know this person who died. So yes, any death is a tragedy and I can understand people having a little tribute to them or whatever but rarely do I let it get really deep under my skin.

The only celebrity whose death ever upset me was George Carlin. But he's an exception.

I didn't care about Gary Coleman. He was a human being, and he should be mourned, although he has his family for that.

If I actually enjoy a celebraties work (Dio) I feel bummed out for a couple hours and get on with my life.

I care but I don't get emotional. The poll was set up to make all the people who feel look like total pussies or sheep, so I didn't vote.

Celebrities create something that people enjoy, and when they die, they are sad because someone whom they have connected with died. When Paul Grey (Slipknots bassist) died I was a little upset because 5 years ago they were a pretty big part of my life. When Michael Jackson died it was a big deal because he was (apart from an amazing singer and performer) a big part of a lot of peoples lives.

I'm sure if a game dev or author passed away there would be a thread about it here.

Biased poll is biased. I'm sad because a human being died, and usually those humans have contributed something memorable to our society. Where the hell is that option on your poll?

Well I'm always sad that another human being dies. I may not have known them personally, but I do hope that they don't have any regrets while they lived.
This.
A celebrity death is a little reminder of how much death can negatively impact people. Unless your in healthcare or some other such line of work, most people rarely encounter death.
Even with people who do work with death, a celebrity death is more removed from the emotional fatigue of their line of occupation, likely stirring up emotion in them, too.

Well if they were a celebrity I liked than I care, for the sake of my entertainment. I was entirely indifferent about Michael Jacksons death. Moderately cared about Gary.

It all depends who it is. I was sad for Dio, kinda sad for M.J because of his genius, but people like Gary Coleman I feel indiffernt. No disrespect to him, everyone should be able to Rest In Peace no matter who they are, but I'm not a fan.

There's a sliver of madness living in the mind of one who would grieve more for a celebrity than they would a friend they barely knew.
