Having mostly played online games for the last few years I have got very used to the idea of everybody playing fair and square. I have no interest in cheating at all and would never even consider cheating in an MMO.

However, as a result of the recent March Mayhem I went and bought Mass Effect and within an hour I was googling if there was a god mode :(

This made me think back to offline/single player games I have played in the past and if I used to cheat:

FPS/RPG: (Doom/Quake/Duke Nukem) Yep
Driving games: No
Strategy: (Age of Empires series/Civilisation) No - maybe very occasionally if I had already lost

Like I say, I would never consider cheating in an online game. Offline games that I am OK at (Strategy/Driving) I would never or very rarely cheat but RPG or FPS games I usually cheat as I am no good at them and without cheating I would give up after the 1st hour or 2 without ever having left the training facility! Online games I am no good at (Counterstrike springs to mind here) I simply don't play.

Anybody else feel this way?

If you played you'd get better at them.

I cheated online in a FPS once, for the giggles.

I used to cheat all the time in offline games. Then I got older, and more skilled, and figured out it was more fun without the cheats.

Ah phooey, seem to have lost some of the options :(

Should have been:

1. I never cheat
2. I sometimes cheat (Offline)
3. I sometimes cheat (Online)
4. I sometimes cheat (Online and Offline)
5. Cheats? Hell yeah - if they are there, use 'em

Personally I am #2

Edit: Ah, I guess poll results do not appear if people have not voted for them :)

I somtimes cheat offline, If I either can't stand the gameplay and just want to know about the story, or if I am VERY VERY VERY stuck.

Meh, I've used a few glitches here and there on online games - mainly on the Call of Duty games. I'm more likely to cheat online because I'm actually trying to beat someone, and its pretty funny, but am unlikely to use cheats on a single player game.

I "cheat" in some RPG's because I get tired of dying over and over and over when I'm playing the game for the 5th/6th time. Plus, sometimes it's fun to play Uber Mega Character.

Cheating ruins games.. And i dont get any feeling of satisfaction completing a game with cheats..

I've only tried cheats in offline games, when i've finished them once without already..

Usually i just go on the internet searching for hidden easter eggs in games, funny things that i've might have missed going through the game the first time.. But thats not really cheating i think..

I don't necessarily need to cheat in starcraft... anymore... but some of the missions are just boring...

Offline: Sometimes, depends on the game.
Online: No. I've got cheat engine for flash games, but that hardly counts to be fair, and I hardly ever use it, plus I don't use it on any site which features running stats for players.

I don't "Cheat" on games. However I do watch the occasional Youtube video if I'm stuck somewhere.
E.G The last 3 chapters of Mirror's Edge.
I certainly don't cheat on online games, and I don't like people that do.

I complete the game, then mess around with cheats. Or halfway through if I'm bored.

But never online...

I'm sure some of it is age related though - I don't have the reflexes for FPS/RPG and without cheating (And believe me when I say I was playing these before we had the Internet and therefore no access to cheats) I give up in frustration having spent 2hrs trying to complete the 1st 0.1% of the game. Strategy games however I can play as cat-like reflexes and the ability to headshot a enemy at 200yards are not required. My 17 year old son is the opposite - he would not consider cheating in a FPS/RPG but gets frustrated playing strategy games and is therefore more likely to cheat.

I wouldn't consider that to be cheating

I only cheat offline, mostly when I finished the game. If I'm stuck, I use walktroughs.

Besides, A lot of the games I play online (Half-life 2: Deathmatch, Zombie Panic, Beta-Battlefield Heroes, you get the idea) are protected against cheating. If I tried, I would be banned from servers for a loooong time.
