Somewhere between 2 and 4, I believe. I used to play Sonic The Hedgehog on the Mega Drive a lot, although I could never get past Labyrinth Zone because the drowning music always scared me so much that I inevitably drowned. Hell, the music still can spook me!
Exactly the same situation for me, Sonic on my (dads) megadrive between 2-4... I never got past that zone either :(

Sometime after I had started school (~'96), one day my mother came home from work with a cardboard box. I think she got it from a co-worker or something. Inside was a Mega Drive and three games: Toy Story, Garfield: Caught in the Act, and Lion King. They were my introduction to gaming.

I later borrowed Sonic the Hedgehog from my cousin, and I'm pretty sure I spent more time playing that than any of my own games. I was still fiercely defensive of my Mega Drive at school; when everyone else started getting Playstations, I dismissed it for having nothing but "violent shooter games".

I was converted as soon as I got a PS1 of my own for christmas, with Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and Formula 1 '98. My third PS1 game was Spyro the Dragon, and around the same time I borrowed Final Fantasy VII from a classmate after getting excited for trailers of Final Fantasy VIII, but of course not being able to afford it.

I also got a Game Boy Color and Pokémon Yellow, again a little behind the other kids (though I credit myself for starting the Pokémon craze in my class even before I could play the games). Anyhow; Sonic, Crash, Spyro, Final Fantasy, Pokémon. That's how I got started.

No! None of that!

I can't remember how old I was when I first played a video game, but I was probably 8 or 9. My grandmother used to watch me, my sister, and my two cousins during the day in the summer while our parents were at work. I was over their house one day, and my uncle had just bought them an NES. They were all urging me to try playing it, and I recall insisting that I didn't want to because it sounded like a boy thing (despite having never heard of a video game, and that both of my cousins are girls). I eventually gave in and tried Duck Hunt, and instantly realized it was the most amazing thing ever. The next day when I was over, I tried Super Mario Bros., and it was even more awesome.

I think the first game I ever played by myself was Pokemon Crystal. For my 6th birthday (I think), my sister and I both got Game Boy Colours. Mine actually came packaged with Donkey Kong Country, but I convinced her to switch with me. I must have poured hundreds of hours into that game...and now the game doesn't work anymore so I have a sad. It won't save that is.

I didn't exactly declare myself a gamer one day, had a ceremony and to this day wear my gamer uniform. I just realized I found games to be very fun when I played Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon on the PS1.

My first game was Hover, when I was...9ish?. A PC was a mysterious new entity back in the day, and it was a long time before I got into game games. Dorling Kindersley CDs were the main source of entertainment for the first year or so, but eventually I moved onto arcade titles and game demos (which often were my only means to violent and adult games).

I started around the age of 3. Super Mario Bro man first game I ever played. First game that was not rented but heavy controlled by my parents. Ocarina of Time first game that was officially mine. I bought it with my own money and my parents were not allowed to touch it. That game is one of my most prized possession.

I was two years old when I started.
The first game that I *attempted* to play was either Duck Hunt or Double Dragon on the NES.
Played a bunch of games on that system actually, though a few of their names escape me all those years later.

So I've been playing in general since I was just out of diapers.
The game that cemented my hobby was A Link To The Past... supplemented by all the good SNES games (the Final Fantasys, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Mario Allstars + World to name a few).

I had a teenage brother and a father who both enjoyed video games. So they'd usually discuss/buy them, and I'd play them when they were at school/work. It was a system that worked well.

I remember my father taking me to an arcade when i was 5 yrs old and he had me play this game called star castle. It was my first game. This was back in 1982. My life was a big blur of hell as a child but the one thing that i had that brought me joy was video games. I had no way to get money so i would just stay in the arcade and watch other people play. My first home console was the colecovision which i had 3 games for. The original donky kong, cosmic avenger, and War Games (based on the 80's movie).

I consider myself really lucky to have watched the evolution of video games over the course of my life evolve as it has. It is probably alot like how our great grandparents might have been able to see us go from horseless cariages to the space shuttle over a single lifetime. I will continue to follow it as long as i live.

I've been a gamer since before I had the mental capacity to understand what a "game" was.

The earliest game I can remember playing myself, rather than merely watching my dad play, is... the original Resident Evil? According to Wikipedia, that was released in the UK a couple of days before I was 2 years old, so I'll go with that for the time I became a gamer.

Actually, my little brother can beat even that young age, since he was moving around and fleeing ignited monkeys with me in Timesplitters 2 before he could walk in real life. The poll could really do with a 0-4 option.

I picked "Other" as I started playing games before I was 5 (can't remember my exact age). It pretty much started when my dad took a delivery of a ZX Spectrum one day. I think the first game I ever played was Hungry Horace. There was no real single moment where I though "yeh, I am going to become a gamer" though - these things just happen.

Little did I know, as I sat there guiding Horace round a maze as he was chased by disembodied heads (terrifying!), the glorious gaming future that awaited us, and that I'd still be playing these things 30 years on. It's almost hard to believe that there was a time you could walk into a shop and buy a new game for £2.50! How things have changed!

I remember I was 8 when my brother let me hop on his PS1 to play the Lost World: Jurassic Park, because I was such a dino nut. In the first mission you play as a Compy, and I remember thinking that I had to use the attack button (which made the little guy leap forward and snap) to move around.

Later came a Spyro game I forget the name of, Legend of Dragoon (I got SO absorbed in that game's story, but unfortunately I never finished it), and a little bit of Ape Escape at my daycare.

I was 3 when I got me PlayStation back in '97.

I had:

- Crash Bandicoot
- Rayman
- Tekken
- WipE'out"
- Worms
- Demo One

I think I tried to play Crash Bandicoot 1 round my cousins when I was about 2 because I remember glimpses of it before I had my own PlayStation and I kept running into the kitchen and telling my Mom and Aunt whenever Crash (as I called him "The Fox") died.

When I was about 5 me parents introduced me to the MegaDrive and:

- Sonic The Hedgehog
- Rolo To The Rescure
- Columns
- Italia '90
- Some motorbike game
