I played a lot of Crash Bandicoot as a kid with my sisters. Tekken too. Those were the main two games that got me hooked and the rest is history

I loved computer gaming at age 5 or 6 when my mum taught me how to play solitaire.

Well, when I was younger my parents were over protective of me, and I wasn't allowed to play games that my parents didn't by specifically for me or for the whole family.

Most NES were fair game since they didn't show blood and weren't too graphic or realistically violent. However, I wasn't allowed to play many of the PC games we had. Namely Wolfenstein 3D, or Doom, or well, quite a few games we had that had blood in them. I also wasn't allowed to play Metroid 2, but that was because they thought it was too complicated for me.

Anyways, my gaming moment would simply be sitting behind my brother or my Mom when they were playing games I wasn't allowed to play. Since most games I played were "Run to the right and don't die", but watching them play those games made me want to get older so they would let me play games like that.

Though my parents were over protective for no reason. I didn't turn out super violent when I started playing violent games. But that another story... My parents are still over protective despite me being 25 now...

Started with Pong, I must have been... 6, maybe? Was invited to a friend's house for a few hours, and had a lot of fun.

Easily, I've been playing Pokemon since I was roughly 8, but I wouldn't say I took Video Gaming "seriously" (in whatever sense of the word) until I was 16, when I was awarded my first Console.

Chose the 5-7 category, but it was probably younger than that actually. I have a brother who is 12 years older and is also a big gaming nerd, so naturally I copied him. I remember my first game too: Marble Madness for the NES.

Wow, I'm the first person to choose young adult 20-29. I'm surprised.

But I guess it might be because I never had a moment where I actually said "I want to be a gamer." I've liked video games since I was 5 or 6 and first played my friend's NES. But I was only ever into one game at a time for most of my life. I played Heretic on my computer in the mid 90s. I played Sonic before that on my Genesis, and in the late 90s I played the absolute shit out of Goldeneye on another friend's N64. Even when I got a Playstation and then a PS2 a couple years later, I never played that much.

I've always liked them a lot, but I never became a gamer until I moved out of my parent's house and got a PS3. I didn't know jack about video game culture, and I didn't spend any time on gamer websites. I never watched trailers, never made walkthroughs, never argued on forums, never read fanfiction (well, maybe a little) before about 2 1/2 years ago. Then I moved in with my friend, who has a PS3, and played BioShock, and it wasn't long until I started acting like an actual gamer. Around then was when I discovered The Escapist, and I lurked here for a while before signing up an account of my own, for the interacting with of fellow gamers.

So, I'm still surprised that everyone else voting here became a quote/unquote "gamer" before I did. I feel a little old now...

I was 5 and going into kindergarten. My parents got me an NES and used it as a treat for doing well in school. Needless to say, I always did well in school.

I really can't remember when I started playing games.

My very first game was Kirby's Dreamland 2... and it wasn't a hand-me-down, so it's possible I may have been gaming as early as 2 years old.

I had played some computer games for a few years when I was younger, but I didn't do that often. It wasn't until I was eight that I wanted to really start playing video games more and got my GBA.

I was about 6 or 7. Played karateka and Prince of Persia on my dads XT or whatever processor it was, two color madness. When it got into 4 colours, I was like now we are talking business! When I saw Super Off Road in arcades and on PC's I thought it was the greatest thing ever, boosting the little cars around the track.

Later on got into MegaDrive, I thought that was the greatest evolution of games ever (into 16-bit era). Over 25 years ago now, all that. Wow I'm feeling like an antique right now

I've been exposed to video games since before I was born. When they heard my Mom was pregnant my Grandparents got them an NES for me to play with when I was born. They played all throughout the pregnancy and after I was born I started watching my parents play. I probably didn't start to play myself though until I was around two or three, maybe four. Hard to remember that far back.

Funny story: I actually learned to read when I was around two by watching my Dad play Zelda; at first he would read the text to me off the screen. After awhile I was able to read the test on my own without it being read to me. To test to see if I could really read or whether I just had the text memorized my Dad had me read something something I had never seen before and I was able to do it.
My Dad's an avid reader so he was really proud of me that day, and he still loves to tell that story.

I can't say really when I started gaming because I can't remember (had amnesia after a fall during 7th grade which kinda blurred my memories from before that moment) but I think it was after 7yo most definitely.

I played the original age of empires and some Pokemon with my childhood best friend Joe "dingus" White, we did indeed play until dawn on our PCs and gameboys day by day catching them all and conquering them all.
Ah yes, this is what made me, moulded me into the man i am today.

Around 3 or 4 I suppose. Must have been SNES or NES games... It wasn't anything serious, then few years later my cousins started taking me out for competitive shooter aka Blood and I was hooked.
