Hi folks,
today I was shopping and bought some good old christmas snacks because we in Germany have opened Chistmas season/advertising early as ever and always this year. Season was opened, when the Public broadcasting radio NDR 2 (North German Radio 2) broadcasted "Whom - Last Christmas" last thursday the 14th september !!!
Are we Germans the only crazy guys in this world, or what the f**k?

P.S: My home city has in the Medieval area of the town centrum (Schnoorviertel in Bremen)a 365 days (cut the sundays)opened christmas store

Christmas used to be a special time.

Now we get Christmas shit plastered all over the place 2 months before bloody Christmas, it's damn annoying.

It's too god damn early, shops are even stocking calenders now, it's bloody insane.

Us Brits are stark raving mad when it comes to Christmas.

I walked into a shop at the end of July and it had a Christmas section already. And the same town was putting up thier Christmas lights.

I'm not shocked honestly, few years ago now I was a store manager, only a small shop, but as an experiment we left a small section full of christmas stuff all year. It did very well, if it's there people do buy that stuff, even if it is cheap junk.

It's really just a reaction to the demand (in my experience), if people weren't so keen on buying it, they'd leave it untill much later.

We don't start Christmas Season until we get past Halloween, though if I recall Halloween isn't celebrated in Gernamny or at least isn't nearly as big... either way, I'm in Canada and we still have to get through October before we start getting Christmasy.

Thanksgiving is usually when the Christmas stuff starts getting laid on pretty thick, but I've seen Santa lawn ornaments before Halloween. It really depends on when the businesses let their greed run free.

I came in this thread expecting a spambot. I am disappointed.

OT: I haven't noticed much Christmas shit....yet

Christmas stuff usually doesn't come out until early November (like, the day after Halloween early) but it's been starting earlier and earlier every year. I haven't been shopping in the last few days, but one of my friends posted on Facebook that the local Walmart has their Christmas stuff up already. It's truly ridiculous.

Edit: Actually, it can be out during October, too; it depends on whether the store has enough floorspace for both Christmas stuff and Halloween candy and costumes.

Today my aunt made me try on some shoes she bought as my Christmas present, so don't worry, it's not just you.
I on the other hand tend to leave my present shopping to 2 or 3 days before Christmas. A box of Quality Streets for everyone!

Christmas is for channers and people with no soul that try to fill the gaping maw where it should be with meaningless baubles. You know, if people actually did have souls.

I don't like Christmas at all in case it was less than screamingly obvious.

Yes, last week I suddenly noticed Sinterklaas stuff, which is pretty much the same as Christmas...
Ridiculous moneywringing...

You are tottally right. Halloween isn´t quite big here in Germany
(the traders / markets wish for, like valentines day, every new occasion to sell things is accepted!). So I think due the gap between eastern and X-mas they just expand what they got
( there is actually also "Nikolaus" to celebrate in Germany, 6th December, but Nikolaus means translated Santa Claus, so it is mixed with Christmas Eve. Oh, just you don´t wonder: In Germany the kids get the presents by "Holy Spirit (heilige Geist)", "Christ Child(Christ Kindl, (Bavaria version))" and "Christmas-man(Wheinachtsmann)"<-Santa ). Oh, I want the complete Studio Ghibli (Princess Monoke/Castle in the Sky/Chihiro) Collection for Christmas.
Just that you know ;-)

and everyone wonders why i don't celebrate it anymore. Its taken over my bloody favourite holiday damn it!

Here in Cali it started about last October so I (hopefully) still have 2 weeks til it starts taking over.

I miss the years back when it didnae start until the day after Thanksgiving. Can we please go back to that? Then I can have Halloween back!

Last year I couldn't buy any Halloween sweets, because they already had nothing but Christmas sweets.

My country doesn't HAVE a Christmas season, so no. Israel only has a few thousand Christians in it, after all. Currently it's Rosh Hashana season, since everyone is getting ready for the new Jewish Year.

I saw some christmas stuff for sale while I was shopping the other day to and i'm in the UK.

It should start mid November or something, shops just bring the stuff out early to capitalize on impulse buying.
