In many vidjama games you can choose to take on certain roles. When given this choice, what role do you usually take?

Tank, definitely, as long as I can also deal some good damage. I've never been good at support roles.

I usually combine stealth with "pop-up-and-shoot-you-in-the-nads" game play when playing single player. When playing multiplayer games I tend to take a run and gun approach with tactical/liberal use of grenades.

Even though they tend to suck in most games.

I usually play tank style, whether my character's suited for it or not. I just like to be in the middle of the chaos, busting heads and taking hits.

A hybrid of damage-dealer and stealth. A tactician, I guess.
This.
Stealth is useless unless you gain an advantage, whether it be a surprise headshot or a OHK move (i.e. spy in TF2, chainsaw in gears, assassination in halo), and getting a kill easily because you put the effort into being sneaky is a LOT more fun than winning a battle where you just hit the other guy a little more than he managed to hit you.

I just try to get some sort of sniper character, with plenty of spare grenades. I die a lot anyway, so I try to take out as many other people first.

By damage dealer I meant more consistant damage or huge explosions. Stealth is more lot of damage than go back to hiding

I said "Other", because I like playing Spikers. I suppose in some games those are the "stealth" guys and in others (like the awful WoW which has no sure way of making a good one-man spike) the damage dealer.
By spiker I mean someone who can do a shitload of damage in a very short time. In Guild Wars (the online game I'm best at) I like playing the Assassin or the Air Elementalist for such reason.

I would've said debuffers, but again, I only play debuffers in GW. Nothing like throwing all your 8 Illusion Mesmer skills onto just one player and watch them become more desperate every passing second.

It varies. In our four-man team, one guy is consistantly the Tank (often with Healer thrown in if possible), another one is the Nuker, leaving me and the other guy to do whatever. I'm usually either a second damage-dealer or a debuffer.

On my own, it fluctuates wildly depending on the game and my mood.

Tank/Damage dealer hybrid, or, the guy that gets to summon lots of minions/pets/servants to do his dirty work for him.
