Uh, no, it wouldn't. Biologically they're exact copies of you which means that if they're not human then you're not human, in which case you're freely admitting that you would have no objection to being subject to forced conscription or organ harvesting of yourself.

Somehow, I get the feeling that's not the case.

If they have the technology to clone people then I'd rather see them put it to good use by growing organs so we avoid the need for organ transplants from other donors, thus avoiding rejection and waiting lists. It would revolutionise medicine. We don't need to clone humans, there's no point to it really.

We have too much overpopulation, there's only one viable scenario:
Kill all the stupid people and replicate the most intelligent people, while simultaneously fixing genetic defects.

I'm quite suprised at the poll actually. If everyone took it seriously anyways.

I think the consequences of bringing something into existence that simply wouldn't have happened in nature is just... Wrong.

I think it would be cool to have a few more mes in the world...
They could do all my work for me.
that wont work theyll gang up on you lol. didnt you ever see that red dwarf episode where rimmer has years stuck on an island, clones himself and well gets locked in a prison after they cant kill him.

anyway no partly due to the above reason, secondly war would be rediculous itlld be just a million timmys shooting a million vladamirs lol.

also the world is too full as it is

now if you were to clone not a person but just an organ then its okay.

On the credible evidence of Star Wars, I'd say it's a bad idea. Every cloning project with involve Super Soldiers by default.

How could you not expect me to want an army? I do wanna take over the world ya'know.

Also, whenever I walk anywhere with my clones, I want this song to play in the background.

And let me guess. YOU'RE the only one who gets a cape?

Oh, and one more thing.
I too would form an elite fighting force of me. And I get a cape.
After stealing it from that guy I quoted earlier.

EDIT:
And they're not my slaves, they're my equals.
I just get the cape.

We'll need cloning when humans advance to the point where natural birthing is obsolete and gets replaced by the more effective cloning. No more birth defects.

Just imagine, all the loved ones, back to continue their lives. I see there are some ethical issues, but I'd look on the bright side.

The earth is already overpopulated and in turn makes the earth over polluted. Global warming blah blah fucking blah.

Also cloning of people, as I see it. Would cause way too much pointing of fingers of what your clone did somewhere else in the world.

I think they should only clone famous people. On the note, Famous people that are good at stuff. Example, Vince Vaughn. That guy is amazingly funny. Someone who shouldn't be cloned: Michael Jackson, Even though he's dead. Just an example of someone to not clone.

I don't see a problem with it, if we fix the process of cloning, which shouldn't be too hard, if we tried.

I also don't see the use for it. We can't transfer consciousness, so it'd just be a physical duplicate of someone, and that doesn't serve much purpose. A new being could do most, if not all of what a clone could, and since people have a habit of complaining about evolutionary stagnation, wouldn't suffer from that either.

Growing bodyparts and new organs would be great, but it's not cloning. If you clone someone you get the full deal, you get a new person, not yourself, because self is very much defined by memory and experience, but another new person, and harvesting organs or replacements from that would be exactly the same as doing it with other people, bred for the single purpose of being organ replacements for the rich. That however, I can certainly see as wrong.

Of course. No one else gets a cool black cape but me. :D

If we clone whole people think about the possible social problems that would result from that. who would own the clone? the company that made it? the persons cells being used? the governments? we would have yet another minority group demanding equal protection and rights.
but as far as cloning just the parts an amputee or someone with organ failure would need, I am all for it. people shouldn't have to suffer or die when we can treat them.
Sweet christ YOU CANT OWN A PERSON. If you squeeze a baby out normally the doctor doesn't own it. If you have IVF the lab technition doesn't own it.

Everyone hears cloning and just goes mad. The following are NOT good reasons for/against cloning as they have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT:

Producing cannon fodder in war:We call this "conscription" people get annoyed at it, regardless of whether clones are involved.
Producing free workers: We call this "slavery" people get annoyed at it, regardless of whether clones are involved.
Organ harvesting: We call this "assault, surgery, and organ harvesting" people get annoyed at it, regardless of whether clones are involved. Cloning makes it somewhat easier, but there's still an illegal organ trade going on now.

The Island and House of the Scorpian are not arguments against cloning. They're arguements against locking people up and cutting out their organs.
You obviously have not ever heard of therapeutic cloning. I was referring to this where you ONLY clone the limb or organ, NOT the Whole person.

I think as long as most of the issues in horror movies are avoided (Not telling people that they're clones, trying to use them as soldiers), and the real world problems can be worked out (premature aging, old genes), then I don't seeany reason why not. The problem is I can't think of a terribly compelling reason as to why. If you can clone a person, presumably you can clone an organ, so you wouldn't need them for an Island-esque body horror facility, so what purpose would they serve?
