Never. Why should that ever make me buy a bad game, all I care about is gameplay and story. I'm going to buy DNF, but only cuz, you know, it's DNF. All the sex is just going to make me uncomfortable, it's more a downside than anything.

Actually, sex appeal kind of irritates me. It's like jangling keys in my face, how fucking dumb do you think I am.

So, never.

Well, I never take it into consideration when buying. It's always how good I expect a game to be.

After buying it, though ... I'll do stuff like look out for ... err ... stuff like a new dress to make my companion wear in Fallout.

Not in the slightest. I buy games for their gameplay, story or other elements - definitely not because of the sexualisation of characters or how big their mammories are.

While the marketing tactic is a bit juvenile, I'll admit that there are some times when a lack of subtle jiggle physics have broken immersion. (Allow me to explain)

When a supporting female character runs over to me and their chest is holding perfectly still like she's wearing a cast iron bra welded to her spine. "I understand that your dirty pillows aren't the focus here, lady...but how about some realism? Was I staring at your chest while you were running over here? No. But do I notice things that are out of place? Yes...and those cement-filled balloons of yours are out of place." Humans run, things bounce, it's the way we are.

Maybe that requires a level of maturity that our society simply hasn't reached yet.

Oh yeah, every man snaps up anything with a beautiful women on it, they are completely hypnotized by models. No chance that some men are different, all of them are the same.

Your the only one I believe to be talking carp here buddy.
Hey I dont buy them for the sex appeal but if there is a cover with say a hot looking chick on it then im most likely going to pick it up and look at it. If I purchase the game it wont be because of the sex appeal it will be because it actually looks good, but it did help get the game into my hands. So it doesnt influence the final decision on if I buy the game or not but it will definatly causes me to notice the game.

Ok I do admit that I had a copy of dead or alive beach volleyball. But screw you all it was a burnt copy that I got from a buddy.
Can't argue with that. These days, when I see them trying to attract me to the game with hot girls I usually think the worst of it. A lot of the covers I see just showing models to advertise games do really end up pathetic in the end, and with that experience I don't give a shit anymore. I don't mean to generalise but that's how it turns out.

As for DOA Beach Volleyball, haven't played it and have no interest for it.

Never.

I mean, do people actually buy games just to look at a girl (or guy) that will never love them, never actually talk to them, and never get naked for them? That's moderately ridiculous.

Isn't that what the internet is for?

What wasn't an option so i voted rarely is that i infact go the other way (ha bloody ha)and suspect the worst of games with sex appeal and so factor it into my decision but against the game instead of for it.

I am not voting simply because you do not have a "No, not ever" option. If my only choice is rarely than that is simply too often.

Same here. I don't buy games because of sex appeal--As a matter of fact, an overuse of sexuality in a game's promo is a real deterrent for me. To me, that just implies that either the game is going to be highly pornographic, which I absolutely do not want to see, or that the game's developers are hiding horrible content behind shiny but minor details.

"The game is hard to control and the color schemes are bland, but look! There's a girl showing off her cans!"

It's just silly, and I wish more game companies (and other forms of media for that matter) would do a polling similar to this to help them realize that sex doesn't sell quite as much as they think it does.

I can honestly say not at all. I've found characters nice to look at before, but I've never bought a game because of that. In the opposite direction, I tend to rejoice when you can play as an obviously elderly character, or someone elderly is a main character. Old people are underrepresented in the gaming world, and as an artist, I like looking at how older people are designed and characterized.

"Rarely, if ever" is the no option, specifically the "if ever" part of the phrase (if not rarely, then never). The poll is a sort of continuum, since precisely determining how sex appeal affects consumer behavior is not practical.

That denotes that it enters my decision making in some form of process, when it does not at all. I know that's the closest choice to my position. However, the poll is not accurate because the OP seems to think that it at least has some influence on everyone. Which as you can see from some of the responses in this thread that it does not on a lot of people.

It's like being asked if you like peanuts. I'm allergic to peanuts, rarely if ever isn't correct. It should be never.

If I thought possession of certain video games brought me any sex appeal, I'd own a hell of a lot more titles that I do. Sadly, in this hobby, it seems almost the reverse is true.

Do I ever purchase games because of the sexual content in them? I'd have to say no; I find games that push this agenda rather smutty in tone.

Sex appeal is exactly the kind of thing that makes me NOT want to purchase a game. If all they have to sell me on is tits, they probably don't have anything of substance behind it.

Yes, I judge a game by it's cover. Sue me.
