It's occurred to me that we gamers have really gotten the short end of the short end of the stick this generation. All three of the main consoles that came out this generation are still expensive and rather lackluster.

Without naming any names, we've got an overpriced children's toy, an overpriced console that is pretty well built but receives horrible support (oftentimes taking away features rather than adding them), and another overpriced console that gets good support but has notoriously bad hardware problems. The latter two's problems are so bad that they've had a couple of (class action) lawsuits leveled at them.

What about you? How many of these consoles do you have? How many of these $250+ consoles are you happy with?

In the interest of avoiding a flame war, I'm not going to include any name in the poll and I beg the rest of you to keep the conversation constructive. If there's any group that could keep this discussion in the realm of tasteful, it's you guys.

Sorry if the poll seems a bit stunted or one sided but this is the first time I used all 8 options and wish I had a couple more.

I have to completely disagree with you here. There is plenty this generation that people have wanted for generations. Finally online gaming on consoles is not only a reality, but a standard, and the service is damn near perfect. I know online gaming has been around on PCs for a long time, but nowhere near the simplicity and functionality of the likes of XBL, where all your friends across all games are consolidated into one list, and you can communicate with them freely all the time.

I have a 360 and I really have a good time with it, but I have had quite a few issues with it...

I've bought all three and I can tell you, they all suck with the exception of the PS3 mainly because I prefer those exclusives.
(without naming)
The _____ is mostly gimmicky crap and shovel ware with about 4 or 5 games that are actually worth anything

The _____ is good but lacks any decent exclusives. Plus they die all too frequently

The _____ is the most balanced choice I'd say just because it has a bit of a technological superiority to the former 2 but it still has it's flaws such as for some reason a lot of ported games will crash and freeze easily and as you said, horrible support.

I have all three. The ps3 has seen more use lately, and Monster Hunter Tri is the first good game out for the wii in a long time, but I have been pretty happy with them.

Granted, I do spend more time gaming on my PC than I do the consoles. But I love gaming and I wanted all three for the good exclusives on each. :x

Provided you use Steam (and why the Hell wouldn't you?!) then that's a redundant statement.

OT: Bought a Wii, it was total shit and continues to be.

Later I bought a 360, s'alright - I'd much rather use my PC, I don't feel particularly connected to a game world when I'm sitting at least a metre away from the screen.

Yeah, this generation has been pretty crappy all around. With the exception of a few smaller titles, PC games seen to have been either disappointing or bad ports, while console games appear to be... well, other people have summed that up.

You really haven't ever heard/seen any of those anti-steam rants before? I don't really 'hate' steam like a lot of people, but i sure as hell wouldn't use it if i wasn't forced to.

This generation is great. Not like the console wars of old. Where it was all exclusives, all the time. "Genesis does what Nintendon't", anyone?

Most of the good titles are on both the 360 and the PS3. While the Wii gets by with a good number of decent games, after a VERY slow few years for non-casual gamers.

Got a Wii and a PS3, and a PC ... a 360 was in my sights but sadly when 4 people I knew had 360 failures in two months I just don't want to support well... Microsoft and their idea they can make software that never really works and now hardware with a 60 percent + failure rate.

Anything on my ps3 I want to play is out and since Halo has never intrested me in the least... it's all the same after that. One ore two titles don't carry a console now a days.

In the Mario/Sonic wars... they had two different worlds. Now it's 90 percent the same crap, then one or two exclusives which will pop up on the pc in a year. And like KOTOR and Fable...I can wait. Hell I prefer the mouse interface to begin with on both games.

At this sad point the next gen PS and Xbox might as well be a PC with a Interchangeable Sony/Microsoft sticker...

Well obviously I've seen rants about it, but some people always need something to rant about.

I'd hardly say Steam is hated by a lot of people anyway, given that there's 2,400,000 people logged on it right now.

It's far more developed than XBL.

Err? They have all the same kinds of features, and xbox live offers integration with social networking sites, voice chat across up to 8 people playing different games, and the ability to talk on MSN messenger while playing. Steam has none of those things.

I got a PS3 this gen, and I'm reasonably happy with it. It's never given me too much trouble, and I enjoy the games on it. The thing is it I could happily live without it, as I buy most of my games on my PC and even then I don't game that much, so I could the money I put towards it should have gone towards upgrading my PC.
