I've always wanted to be able to play console games with a keyboard and mouse but I was wondering if this was the case with anyone else (i know you can get adapters but i mean hardware connected straight to the console).
I know many will say "just play on PC" but my point is that consoles are cheaper than PCs if you want the same graphics/performance.
I personally would like a combination of the two. Kinda like the wii nunchuck combined with a mouse to give console control over movement but pixel-accurate aiming with mouse.

For Platformers/Twitch Games I prefer a console controller

For FPS's and RTS's I prefer a mouse/keyboard. Consoles will just never be as fluid or good for these (though the Wii comes close).

For RPG's... either really, I prefer turnbased.

I play FPS's better with a gamepad, and for FPS's I think a mouse sucks *pause for shock*

That being said, for strategy games a keyboard/mouse will win.

Just like Pedro, I play mostly turn based RPG's when I play and either will work.

And platformers, racers, third person shooters, and fighters are all gamepad.

Interesting, I would have thought more people would have gone for keyboard and mouse but I guess that's mainly because I'm an FPS player and was thinking in terms of that.

i was. it feels more natural to shoot with triggers.

People who think that controllers are better for first person shooters have been tricked, TRICKED I SAY, by that vile wretch called "Auto aim" or also known as "Aim assist".

*shakes fist*
there's always the option to shut it off. i hate that function and have it set as a system default to stay off.

useless poll: depends on the game. FPS: mouse/keyboard. Lots of other stuff: PS3 controller.

Completely depends on the game. Since I'm adding this part after typing everything below, with "console" I mean "controller"

I've seen C&C3 being played on a 360, and it worked just as good as it did on a pc, same for those LotR RTS games.
I've also seen shooters fail because they're on the pc, but that's mainly because they ruin a good thing, or because they're made for console.(Blacksite had sticky aim on the PC, Halo just doesn't feel right)

RPGs depend on the type. Oblivion style RPGs(active combat) should be played on the PC, FF9 style RPGs(turn based) should be played on a console.

For RPGs, I find that western RPGs like Neverwinter Nights or Oblivion work better with keyboard and mouse, because they tend to require excessive hotkey usage. As for JRPGs, they don't work any better on a console, but I prefer the feel of a pad to that of a keyboard, even a handheld is better.

For platformers, action adventure (eg Legend of Zelda, Kameo etc), I find pads much more satisfying.

For RTS games, nothing but keyboard and mouse will suffice.

Agree with almost all, however RPGs Keyboard & Mouse, except JRPGs they control better with a controller

I think for rpgs a mouse actually works really well for the simple fact that having a cursor allows you to target spells and have targeted spells in a real time combat game that on a console would likely have to be centered around the caster. personally, I can use most controllers and control schemes without a problem, but strangely enough, for a long time the smaller xbox s-controller just threw me off. I guess I was just used to the bigger controller with the black and white buttons on top.

Keyboard and mouse is better for FPS, RTS (oh god yes), RPGs and turn-based strategy because you have faster, more precise movement and selection with the mouse and more keys for hotkeys and shortcuts.

Fighting games, racing games and some platformers are better with a console controller.

For mouse and keyboard, I'd rather use SDEF than ASWD, then shift and z are easier to reach with the pinky for crouch and sprint than shift and ctrl, plus you have Q and A within easy reach for other things.
