I think that grammar/spelling/etc. is the best way to have people take your point seriously. If your post doesn't read well, why should I care what you have to say? You obviously don't care because you spent no time making it legible.
some people don't notice it like my brother.

Fact: humans hate being wrong.

Fact: humans hate someone else being right even more than being wrong.

Fact: humans do not like to admit fault.

I might just be a masochist but everyone should feel free to beat me down if I make a mistake. How else am I meant to learn about things?

Ironically enough, I love to correct other people, but I really can't stand being corrected myself. I guess it's because I'm the one who is supposed to know everything, and it's incredibly embarressing if I'm wrong about anything, and being corrected just rubs salt into the wound.
Wow... I kind of hate myself now... v_v.

EDIT: but as long as the person correcting me isn't being a dick about it, I guess it Ok... I mean I still want learn.

I don't mind being corrected, but because a lot of people hate being corrected I usually try to not correct anyone. The problem is I'm REALLY bothered when I see typos, I can hang on to those things for days if I don't tell them the typo is there. So for my own mental health I have to correct typos. I don't even care if they notice that i've corrected them, as long as I can correct them I can move on :p

I believe it's the attitude behind the "corrector" that causes the most resentment, if they post their correction in a condescending way then of course you're going to feel like you're being disrespected, and so you'll want "Payback, *****!"

So yes, it's the style of the correcting, not the act of correcting itself.

I am definitely a grammar Nazi, so if I'm ever caught making a mistake, I would usually like to know how I went wrong.

I usually try to make sure that anything I say is correct. I don't mind people correcting me if I have something wrong. I do sometimes get annoyed by spelling and grammar mistakes, but I only mention it if I found their post difficult or painful to read.

One thing that really annoys me is people putting then instead of than. If I see it in a post I have a lot of difficulty taking the person seriously.

I hate being wrong, but I don't hate being corrected. Of course, the less I'm corrected, the less I'm aware of them, but that's just worsening the problem.

I dont mind when people correct me, as long as they aren't dicks about it. If people didnt correct eachother, people would learn less and that would be bad.

I can be somewhat of a grammar nazi, but I won't point out something that is not worth mentioning. For example someone typing 'peice' instead of 'piece' is hardly worth getting uptight about. I always double-check my post before I put it on the thread, but I don't mind if people correct me, if it's spelling/grammar or a fact that I have got wrong.

If they can correct me and be polite, or at least not be some smug, donkey fucking, moron about it I won't mind. If they are trying to correct me, but really they are being wrong, of course I'll tell him so.

This is a tough question. I certainly don't like being wrong but I don't mind being corrected in a discussion of facts, and if I'm proven wrong I'll more often than not admit it. Of course, not everyone feels that way and when proven wrong they do sometimes react in a hostile manner or just dig themselves a deeper hole to hide their heads in. Once it becomes obvious they don't see their fallacy, I'll just drop it because there's really no point as it's not even a discussion any longer.

A real problem, however, is when people start taking opinions as attacks or presume they are being presented as facts. There's really not even much point in starting in on situations like these.

Oh, and terrible spelling and/or grammar really bothers me. I will almost never correct someone for even the most egregious errors, but I will feel like tearing my eyes out with a rusty spork. (My biggest pet peeve is probably people who spell ROGUE as ROUGE.. argh) If you want to make a point or even sound somewhat intelligent, at least make an effort to spell the words you use correctly. If you don't know how to spell them, don't use them or if you have to use them, look them up in a dictionary first.

It's when someone that corrects my opinion that pisses me off.
Or when they just seem out to get me, starting an argument for no reason.
