I recently saw a thread about what people would do if they saw a girl crying. That got me thinking. What if it was a man crying in front of you? Would you act differently?

This the link to the other thread. [link]http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.193643-Poll-What-would-you-do-if-a-girl-was-crying-in-front-of-you#6143792[/link]

No, it wouldn't. I'd still try to help him through the problems he was dealing with.

To be honest if it was a man I didn't know in the street crying I would probably avoid him. I know I probably shouldn't but that's how I would act.

Nope. Awkwardly milling about wishing that I could do something useful either way for me.

If I am being honest then yes. I would still offer to help, but I imagine I would word it a lot more differently.

The question to ask any bloke who seems to be down or upset can be summed up in one word, "Pub?"

Exactly this for me too.

There is also the question of age. The younger the person, the less relevant gender becomes (well, and the crying too). Child of either gender crying? Nothing unusual. Teenager crying? GTFO. Adult person? Awkwardness.

Well, I'd probably be a bit more concerned, because guys tend not to cry unless something really horrible has happened. But my reaction would be fairly similar otherwise.

Unless it was someone I knew(who I would help), I'd ignore them because it's probably a personal issue and I doubt I could help.

Call me uncaring, but seeing girls crying doesn't make me feel bad; I see girls crying significantly more often than guys, and it's usually for a stupid reason. But I would be more sympathetic and want to help more if I saw a guy crying.

I'd probably use different words and methods, but I'd still be talking to him and trying to help.

Of course I'd act differently. Instead of "Stop it, or I'll bury you alive in a box!!', I'd kindly say, "Stop it, you fucking pussy, or I'll bury you alive in a box!!"

I'm going to assume that said crying people are of our respective age groups...
I might still help but in a way different then in the way I would help a girl I saw crying

Awww!! How sweet, I'm being linked to *HUGS*

Now, OT: I would react differently. I have the "comfort crying girls" thing down, but guys... Generally I let them get it out, then ask them what that was about. Usually with my friends we tend to know when they're getting overwhelmed so we can step in before it's that bad. Like when our friend J-Mac (my personal nick for him) was being broken up with by his first girlfriend... We knew what it was doing to him, brought him round to our place, and then played games with him and let him talk it out in his own time.

If it was an acquaintance, well, for most of my acquaintances I could use the following:

(Though why did you post "see a girl crying"? That's an interesting discussion in and of itself: seeing a boy cry vs a girl.)
Because you give boys booze/boobs when he's crying.

Easy answer. Would make for a short thread.
Yet again, if it was a random... Between the ages of 0 and high school, deal with the problem, if they're in high school listen to them, THEN deal with the problem, if they're legal and under 40, ask them what's wrong and if there's anything I can do, over 40 hope like hell there's someone there to help them, coz it's always weird walking up to random older men. Once they get to a venerable age, we're back to listening to them.

perhaps. I mean in all honesty I wouldn't want to... to sleep with a guy well I'd be more likely to talk to a girl who was crying. But other than that: no. I'd probably phrase it differently and maybe take it "more seriously" becasue men aren't "supposed" to cry.

...

Oh.. I guess I would act differently

I see girls crying on the street all the time. 16-year-old morons with fake ID's who have just been thrown out from the local night club, dumped by their boyfriends, and are now sitting on the street crying, with the tears of drunken stupor washing away the eight layers of make-up and mascara they spent an hour applying that very morning..

However, if the situation was different, and something that I'd consider alarming, I'd try to help.

For a guy.. I don't know. I think our society definitely sees men crying as a weakness, and if I ever saw a man crying, he'd probably want to be left alone, and his problems would be beyond me. So.. yeah, I wouldn't interfere. Right thing to do? Maybe not, but it's what I'd do anyway.

If I was drunk, answer could be entirely different.
