Poll: Cursed with Omnipotence?

The world is yours, and not in the Tony Montana sense.
In the "God Almighty" sense.
Whatever the reason, you have been gifted with omnipotence. Your will may shape reality. By your whims, galaxies may be born and unmade. Your every wish could become true the instant you desire it to.
There is no catch, no price to pay. The powers of a god are yours to wield forever and ever.
You may create anything, destroy anything, and control anything. Mountains and rivers, cities and stars. Wave your hand and they are there. Gravity and relativity obey your commands. You may even create life, as simple or complex as you want. Create animals, people, or entire civilizations if you want to. They may have free will, if you want them to, but you can always override it, too. If they displease you, you may just destroy them and remake them as you wish.

There are no laws or boundaries for you anymore. At all. Not even one. Nobody is as powerful as you. You may create another being with similar powers, but you will still have the ability to unmake it or change it that it would not have over you.

The only thing you may not do is turn yourself omniscient (all knowing). You may spend a trillion lifetimes in a library the size of the moon if you wish, but you may not become instantly knowledgeable, educated or spiritually enlightened.

My question for you may seem like a strange one:
Will you take my offer of godhood if I presented it to you?
Some people say that immortality would be not a blessing, but a terrible curse. What a curse, than, would complete and utter control of the universe be?

.......................

Another silly philosophy thread. Have fun with it!
(If you think that answering the question presented is too simple, you may instead entertain us with what you are planning to do with your godlike powers. Some people like these kinds of threads)

I'd take the omnipotence, but would barely utilise it. Just grant immortality to close friends who also asked for it, maybe occasionally help people but for the most part I'd want to stay out of most major problems. I'd only help in totally unambiguous situations, like create giant piles of food in impoverished nations and such. Oh, and I'd create a palace on Saturn's rings or something, obviously with a breathable atmosphere in the palace, and central heating. Because space is awesome.
Actually, a thought occurs. I would help any way I can in scientific advancement, except in weaponry stuff. Cause I love science lol.

Omnipotence only means you can see everything happening at once. It doesn't mean you can be everywhere at once. Thats omnipresence.
No, what you are describing is omniscience.

Just to make things clear:
Omnipotent: can do anything. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnipotence )
Omniscient: knows anything. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omniscience )
Omnipresent: can be everywhere at the same time. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnipresence )

It is often said that the Judeo-Christian God possesses all three qualities, and is the only being that does.

I'd just tear a hole in reality and move to another dimension. Create my own universe with it's own laws and what not. Of course not before I willed a few choice people to have "accidents" on earth.

I'd probably go power mad at first like Jim Carry in Bruce Almighty and raise lots of mischief just because I could.

As for the no being omniscient all I'd have to do is will a machine into existance that does have all the knowledge on it and just make sure it has an interface on it for me to download the info into my mind or anyone else's mind that I so choose. Not all at once mind you but in thematic chunks of info that have to be downloaded separately. Bang, loophole found.

I've already got it, but I'm just kinda chill about it, you know. No need to make a big production out of things. I'm just going to live for a while, have fun, earn some money (because earning is more fun than just getting - ask any Minecraft player), shag my girlfriend a bit and then die off when I feel like I'm ready. I don't really care about changing the world, or interfering in anyone else's business, too much like hard work. The biggest thing I did recently was turn one of my ex-girlfriends and Satan into kittens that prowl around my apartment. It's good to be in control. When you die, tell God I said hi.

While loophole abuse is not outside of the question in this discussion, it does make things less interesting, at least in my opinion. Try to stick to the spirit of the rules rather than the letter, to create the best philosophical experience.

To be a killjoy (after a fashion)...

Impossible to answer in a real sense, as it is based upon the assumption that upon becoming omnipotent we maintain the thought processes of a human. Sticky point, that.

Otherwise, ignoring that criterion... yeah, why not? Though I'd probably get tired of the worshipping after a few centuries, then start chuck lighting at the ground. 'Dance, little ants, dance!'

Why not? The entire point of this thread is to see how humans with a human thought process would act when given godlike powers! It wouldn't be half as interesting if they were given wisdom together with power...

I would accept it, but not for a special purpose.
There would just be a few things that I would do:
1. Grant ecual(?) power to my fiancé after we have married.
2. Grant a fretile environment to the places that need food.
3. Erase alla drugs that have no medical use.
4. Teleport CERTAIN persons to a cave an keep them there for a few years.
5. Make shure that everyone that I know lead a good life.
6. Make a fertile planet and create a race of aliens with intelligence.
7. Make all wars end.
8. Put good people at the right positions in the right countrys.
9. Chill on my very own island in a warm climate.
10. Make me have all PC's and videogame-consoles and -games that I want + a really BIG TV.

I'd take the powers, but with the interesting twist in the OP about not being all knowing you probably would end up with the Bruce Almighty path of screwing up more things than you make work.

For example, there is the "end all wars" comment above...How? What will the consequence of this be to the world? Will it somehow cause new and worse problems you never thought of?
Most likely you would, but hey, no problem, right? You can just fix them with some god-magic whenever you want. Just reverse time and get it right. You have all the time in the world and then some.

Probably, but that we do not know yet. And I live by "Learning by doing".

I think I'd accept, if only to see what such power would be like. Knowing me, I'd end up misusing it though, and the idea that things would happen as soon as I willed them to is a little scary; Half the fleeting thoughts I have every day are about something I want at that specific moment, some of them would be horrifically awkward, others plain disgusting if the wrong thing came into my mind, and the rest would just sap the satisfaction gained from the act itself.

On the whole though, once I'd gotten used to it and finished struggling with moral dilemmas (everyone wanting to be immortal and what not) I'd most likely devote my power into scientific development. I'd ensure it didn't overstep itself too quickly, but I'd assist where I could. Most of the time though, I'd be busy absorbing as much information as possible; To me, infinite time's primary use is for learning everything I possibly could, which if I'm a god is, y'know, everything
