Salutations escapists!

Dungeons and dragons is a game I have recently picked up with friends and I am having a glorious time. The crowd I play with have a great sense of humor, so stupid [read: funny] things are always happening. Inside jokes persist to no end.

Specific to this thread at hand:

Preferred class type, alignment, and why.

Personally, Sorcerer, Lawful Neutral (Good inclined).

First, when playing a game, and thus separating myself from reality, I prefer the notion that I can summon up vast elemental power. Specific to sorcerers, I especially like the notion that it is a process of sheer talent and will. Perhaps my actions are less refined than the studied hand of a wizard, and my spells may be of a lower variety, but I get the job done.

Furthermore, because my spells are based on my charisma, I have a distinct talent for social situations, something that also might otherwise be a fantasy.

Lastly, my good inclination is a matter of diplomatic pragmatism. I find it better to make allies than enemies.

Bard, Chaotic Neutral (I prefer Chaotic Evil but my friends always have a paladin in the party).
I enjoy being a jack of all trades being able to pull something out of a hat in almost any other situation. That and I don't have to hide in the back of the party and I don't have to run around protecting everyone soaking damage; the class gives me the freedom to run around and do unique things in battle, like using terrain or odd things around the room. It gives me an excuse to sing annoying songs to my friends.
I like a chaotic nature because it gives me a wide variety of actions to choose from and I really don't believe in a black and white set of morality. Ie, in one game we helped a bunch of gnomes from an evil villain and while that was a nice action, I took the skulls of one of my fallen allies that got their brain sucked out by a mindflayer and used the skull as a puppet in my character's comedic act.

You mean inspire courage? The song you get at level 1? The one you can sing even if there isn't a fight going on?

Most fun i had was with a lawful evil monk... yeah. But i have a chaotic neutral Fighter/Sorcerer i am playing right now which is great too.

Also i have to say that D&D is one of the lowlier form of pen&paper roleplaying games... much better out there (And all beware of 4th editions.. hell nothing is good in 4th edition, not even Shadowrun)

I say rogue, the official D&D test (which is not official) says Wizard/Sorcerer which actually sounds kinda cool
Rouge is interesting but they always worry me.

Not in the "hey, where is my coin purse," way, but in the, "Does this count as "separating the group?" kind of way. Having them scout the building, and all that is nice, but it invites trouble.

I literally sing in my friends ears about our escapades and random things, just to annoy the hell out of them.

Do you have some recommendations as for better games?

I have played a few others with this group. You have to realize that it isn't WHAT we play, but HOW we play it. We always have fun, no matter what. That's the point.

You don't... you know... take time to write lyrics or anything, right? You just kind of adlib the song?

I personally love the LARP version of Vampire the Masquerade. It lets you get so much done in a few hours of play and lets your pit yourself against other players for some backstabbing hilarity. And it doesn't require much in terms of knowledge and you can literally teach some one the basics and get them playing like a pro in like 30 minutes to an hour.

Pretty much, though a lot of it is just me replacing words from existing songs and applying it to our situation.

Well admittedly I'm currentply playing my first ever campaign, but I'm a Gnome Wizard, Neutral Good, and I am loving it. At first I was completely useless, since Cantrips do pretty much nothing in battle (though they were slightly helpful in conversation). But once I started getting some other spells, I became pretty hardcore. I really enjoy it.

I'm considering casting Enlarge Person on myself, followed by a permanency spell so I can be a 6-foot tall gnome. Just 'cause that would be awesome.

Wouldn't a LARP game make it a NON-paper and pencil game?

I'm going with other, because I don't play by that set of rules. I choose Thief! Sometimes Thief/Magic-User, Thief/Illusionist or just plain Illusionist.
