Origins was massively dissapointing I found, the combat system really got on my nerves. It wasn't the "tactical" side of it that got to me, it was more the "My char spotted a rabbit from a mile away and won't end combat mode because of all his testosterone or something" side of it that stopped me being able to do anything in that game. And for a game based around funky combat, it wasn't all that up to par tbh, especially with all the uber++ ratings it'd been given from everyone at the time.

Maybe I just had too high expectations of it, maybe I just thought it'd be an RPG rather than a really long action game with RPG character building bits or maybe Fallout 1 and 2 ruined me for RPGs and I despise anything that isn't as good. Although I hear DA2 builds on Origins, making it faster and such so I can only see that as being in improvement since Origins' combat wasn't really tactical and more "Pause to Stop Tits Flying Skyward" than anything else.

What the...

The story in GoW is poor? How? Just because it's weaved into the gameplay and not written down or told in a more interactive way does not mean it's poor. Just because they didn't give you the option to take your own approach does not mean the characters are dull and the story has no depth.

Of course God of War had more hack-and-slash parts, but a lot of them are key parts in the storyline. In Dragon Age most bosses are meaningless for the rest of the story until some of the late-game bosses.
GoW story is simply Greek mythology plus one angry dude out to kill everyone who looks at him funny, it makes for legendary action sequences but as stories go it's not much there.

Playing as a Mage is better in 2 but over all Origins is better if only for the appropriate difficulty

Dragon Age 2's difficulty is like playing the third level of Ninja Gaiden Black every 30 seconds. What kind of twat calls DA2 easy on normal.

You actually have to think in DA:O.

In DA2, there were more than several times I just let my companions do all of the fighting while I got up to get a snack. I had to set it up on Nightmare difficulty to actually get to get more involved in the game than simple click right key for awesome. >.>

Yeah, but Origins spoiled me with a really good ending that wraps things up. I'm excited about the next game,
Possible return of the Warden? Who wouldn't be?
, but a cliff hanger after a messy third act and an overall rushed game kind of ticked me off. I did like the companions more, as well. I see you also went with Merrill. I'll be honest, she alone made the game go up a few points in my book.

DA2's combat could be a little silly at times, like when you are playing a 2h warrior and casually walk into a group of random robbers and do a twirl and 50 guys turn into red misty gore chunk soup.

Still, I had to force myself to finish DA:O because I paid full price for it like a retard, and the dialogue really doesn't seem any better to me at all. I guess i can sort of get an idea of "saying exactly what you wanted to say", but it's not really a shocking mystery when you pick the option that has the goofy smily mask picture and Hawke cracks a joke about what was just said.

Seems like those people would never be happy until they could play a game where they actually typed in the responses and it worked all the time rather than having to hit key words like in those older games that did that. We're probably at least a decade away from seeing that kind of stuff.

there are perhaps 2 or 3 challenging fights in all of DA2 and they all occur near the end of the game -- the high dragon, the lone blood mage surrounded by a dozen or so shades and a pride demon and (maybe) the Orsino and Meredith fights
Excuse me?

Did you play on Nightmare and duel the Arishok?

The games combat is not harder than origins, but to make a list of all the challenging fights in DA2 and not include Arishok seems wrong.
so in order to get a challenge in this game i have bump the difficulty to nightmare? does that not strike you as odd? isn't it dogma that the normal difficulty level was the intended level of challenge the developer was looking for? maybe this is just my opinion, but i should not have to bump up the difficulty slider to maximum to be reasonably challenged in a game.

regardless, the fight with the arishok (as a warrior) boiled down to the following:

1. blow your CDs,
2. avoid his rush and don't stand in melee range for too long,
3. run around the pillars until your CDs and/or your health or stamina potions are available,
4. blow your CDs,
5. rinse, repeat, profit

i was actually surprised when the qunari didn't swarm me after the fight since bioware apparently equates difficulty with waves of enemies in DA2. the only difficult part was fighting off the boredom as the fight dragged on.
