How much you wanna bet Comedy Central cancels Tosh.0 because of this?
How much you want to bet this petty crusade won't do a thing to Tosh's career? People act like he was a nobody before Comedy Central. He wasn't, he had a strong following for his stand up and now he gets paid a crap load for Tosh.0 with a new generation of fans.

This whole fiasco will do nothing but make more publicity and money for him in the long run. Comedy Central won't fire a comedian for making rape jokes while they still have their other comedians making black jokes and homosexual jokes. Oh and as well as murder, genocide, torture and other horrendous topics that are hilarious if told right.

edit: well I guess it will do a thing for his career, get him more fans.
I didn't say that as a gripe against Tosh. I meant that usually when things like this make this much of a public backlash, the company in question would rather make good with the public than hold onto something that caused them problems in the first place.
Not usually when it comes to comedians. Comedy central has got nothing but backlash over virtually all it's comedians. Ron White got backlash for his portrayal of that little town in Texas, Bill Engval and Jeff Foxworthy constantly get backlash for their "here's your sign" and "you might be a redneck" jokes. Carlos Mencia and Dave Chapell got backlash for every fucking word that came out of their mouth. Comedy is always controversial, comedy central is used to it by now, and they don't often dump comedians over it.

That said, Tosh isn't funny, and he should lose his show for not being funny, not because he made a rape joke.

Lastly, at the very end of it, he supports that artists should have the right to make games about rape, they should just be labeled as a little weird. Why doesn't Daniel Tosh get the same artistic freedom?
Because he's a douchebag?

If you don't like shock humor then you shouldn't be watching/attending anything involving Daniel Tosh.

This is not that difficult of a concept.

I don't see why acting like a douche is grounds for that, especially when thats part of his schtick.

So no "yes" option in polling. I'm glad you listen to different opinions. If we don't allow rape jokes where would we draw the line on whats allowed, plus they are hilarious if done well.

Though replaying to this thread is like throwing a message in a bottle into the Atlantic, I'll still come by to say that I kind of like Tosh. The way he handled his heckler was terrible. It's not that I'll never think a joke on the subject of rape is funny (I've not heard one that was funny, but you never know), just that what he did was pretty shitty. Just my opinion.

Either everything is okay to make fun of, or nothing is.
Why do you just drop your opinion like it's authoritative and fail to back it up? It's at the level of any random drivel with such support. You do nothing to explain why such a statement would be true. At best you try to argue that time and place matter, but nothing at all suggests that if I think one thing is unacceptable as a target that all things must be.
I'm not the guy you responded to, but what he said is actually a very old sentiment. The idea here is that if we decide that a subject can't be joked about because a small group finds it wrong, eventually nothing will be able to be joked about because there is likely someone who finds it offensive. For example, one of my close friends works on a farm. We've learned that, when around him, we cannot make, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" jokes. This is because he watched the first chicken he ever raised walk out into the street by his family's farm and get splattered by a semi-truck. He then had to go up and scrape what was left of his chicken off the ground or he would have faced a fine from the city. It left him traumatized.

Sacred cows make the best burgers. Really anything can be joked about it just depends who you're making the joke to. I don't find rape or any inhumane acts funny but I still enjoy dark humor include Tosh's stuff. I will agree that particular joke was pretty bad though. His humor was meant to be offensive so if someone is offended then I guess he did his job. If you're afraid of rape jokes stay away from Tosh and similar comics.

tbh, it depends on the context. imo, rape only really works as a joke if the situation in general didn't imply sexual abuse or if it's just trying to show how awful something is. The rape joke doesn't work, imo, if it's directed as a specific person that actually exists in real life, though, since that's implying a lot more than just some fun kidding around.

In Tosh's case, it was in extremely poor taste.

ITT: people still saying its free speech to say whatever you want, however you want and people should just STFU about it but lambasting the OP for a poll without option they want and demanding he change it.

He apologized for what he said but I don't think he endorsed either accounts.
Maybe I'm being too cynical (or Tosh is too idiotic) but if he were to publicly apologise for saying something and the most widely circulated account of the incident was wrong...wouldn't he take the fucking opportunity to correct it?
Good point, IDK maybe he just wanted the controversy to go away.

Capcha: be nice

Ok capcha.

Mirasiel you seem like a friendly person.
Maybe.

You also seem like a friendly internet person.

He didn't threaten anyone and shock comedy of any kind should be expected at a comedy club. If you heckle a comedian during his show, get prepared to be insulted and offended. That said, Daniel Tosh is just a less funny Louis C.K. as far as shock comedy goes, and I will continue not watching his show because he sucks.

Speaking of Louis C.K., I feel like this video is relevant:

Modern pseudo-feminists*

Most Americans seem (as far as this thread goes) far more tolerant of rape jokes than this stupid blogger.
I know, next thing ya know they are going to go after your Princess Molestia.
And then we'll just point at all the charities the brony community has donated to.
