There was news a while back saying that they are going to digitally bring back the Joker (god, I hope not) While Nolan said, "[he]feels uncomfortable about the idea" do you think that's going to happen?

Personally I would greatly respect Nolan if he didn't, because his main concern is "respecting Ledger's performance" and not tainting it with a cgi Joker. So what do you guys think the new villain(s) is/are? Nolan thought about Johnny Depp as the Riddler, but he scrapped the character.

Nolan is known for his secrecy when it comes to his films. He said that Robin will not be in it, but let slip that he was going to build Robin's hideout. Later on there was also suspicion that he might cast Joseph Gordan-Levitt (Arthur from Inception) to play as him (a bit of an age differentiation, there). So what do you guys think of this?

Hopefully it's be better than the animated movie: Ultimate Avengers

And with a title like "The Dark Knight Rises" (which is the stupidest sequel title in the history of stupid sequel titles)
Rise Of the Planet Of The Apes.

*dusts hands*

Well if you want to get TECHNICAL it's a prequel. Still doesn't detract from the point that THAT is the worst title ever.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is indeed pretty bad but at least it tells you what the film is about. The Dark Knight Rises doesn't even do that.

I think both will be pretty awesome movies, Marvel has become quite the movie powerhouse in terms of quality. Both will make tons and tons of money either way though

While The Dark Knight Rises look certainly awesome but Avengers is compose from four films so it sort of like four against one. This however is more risky to be a bad time (if they don't get the right amount of balances between Thoe, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America).

I'll be honest I saw this thread on Lavalit, and seeing how not everyone else here has a lavalit account, I'd figure i'll pass the torch as it were.
Avengers all the way.

I haven't liked any of the recent Batman movies. Yes, Heath Ledger made a great joker, but he is really the only thing I've liked about the reboot. Michael Keaton's two movies are still my favorite Batman movies.

On the other hand, I loved Thor, loved Iron Man, and loved Captain America. I was not a fan of any of these characters until the recent string of movies, but now I'm really interested in seeing how they all work together.

So yeah, Avengers. ^^

I think both films will be equally as good, but you have to measure them differently. The Dark Knight Rises, will be dark, and gritty, and a bunch of other dark-toned words, with great acting and direction and story. The Avengers will have great acting, directing, and story, but the movie will be lighter and the way the characters play off each other will be better than The Dark Knight Rises. They'll both be equally good films, you just have to measure them by their own merits and I'm excited to see both.

You really ought to have an option for "Holy shit, I can't wait for next summer, because both of these movies are coming out ohgodIcan'tstandthewait*squeeeee!*

Because... that's me. Of course, If I had to pick between them, I'd have to reluctantly go with The Avengers. Though Nolan is my favorite director, and Batman is Batman, the Marvel movie wins for a few reasons:

1. Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, both "Chrises" (Hemsworth and Evans), Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, and -hopefully- Natalie Portman and Gwyneth Paltrow. I mean, really. With these guys together, how could it be anything less than awesome?

2. The idea of making several superhero movies (that are really good on their own) for the main purpose of bringing all the characters together in a badass team-up movie is a really groundbreaking concept in Hollywood (yes, I do watch MovieBob's shows, why do you ask?).

And 3...

Avengers is has Joss Whedon. 'Nuff said.
Yeah. When I learned that he was writing it, I had a bit of a nerdgasm.

Batman, especially The Dark Knight, is the most overrated thing ever. Whereas Avengers is a massive gamble, and has a massive potential. Easy choice for me.

Bane looks bad ass and the teaser released not too long ago has got me pumped.
Is he in it? I'm excited to see Bane too. He has the sharpness to scope out batman, and... have you LOOKED at him? He can snap Bruce wayne in two. He has both brain and brawn.

Too bad he was a total joke in Batman and Robin where he was Poison Ivy's lacky. A joke within a jike, that's a new low.

This, except I'm slightly more excited for the Avengers movie. I still can't wait for both though!

Same thought. I'm excited for both, but the new Batman movie has me just a tad more revved up because Batman has always been my favorite superhero.

I've always been a bigger Batman fan so I'm much more excited for The Dark Knight Rises especially since I found the last two to be exceptional.

That doesn't mean I won't see The Avengers. I've seen all the Marvel movies and enjoyed them and I am looking forward to this one. It won't be as dark, deep, or better then The Dark Knight Rises due to the superior script writing, better director, and actors (all imo) compared to The Avengers. But I still think it will be another solid Marvel movie.

In essence, can't wait for both. Next summer for movies will be epic.

The two newest Batman movies, made me love Batman, which I didn't before. It's going to be awesome.

I don't really care for the avengers, haven't watched the movies and don't plan to anytime soon.

These movies put me in an odd position. On the one hand, I don't like Batman. It annoys me how much people wank over him and he really has no right to be as good at his job as any comic portrays him. However, Batman has had some of the best creative people on the planet work on his stories, and from A Long Halloween to the Arkham City game. Nolan's Batman films are among the group of media that makes me question my dislike for Mr. Wayne. Both Begins and Dark Knight are awesome movies, and probably count as my favorite for the genre.

Aaaaand in the other corner, the Avengers. I am in love with the Avengers. Iron Man and Thor are two of my favorite heroes, and I certainly rank Captain America and Hulk above Batman in terms of how much I enjoy their characters. Luckily, all four of those characters have turned in at least one solid movie going into the Avengers, however, I wouldn't really rank any of them except Iron Man as being in quite the same tier as Nolan's movies. And while I do really like some of Whedon's past work, I don't think he's as good as Nolan. However, off the top of my head I can't think of anyone who's better equipped to do this movie. I mean, if Nolan tried to do an Avengers movie, the tone would be completely out of whack with what has happened so far and would alienate a lot of the casual movie goers who are here for some fun.

So basically it ends up with a character I'm lukewarm on having a final installment of a so far fantastic trilogy vs. a group of characters I really like with pretty good movies going into a brand new experiment. The Dark Knight is honestly the smart bet, but I can't help it, I love the Avengers to much. Avengers, ASSEMBLE!
