Ganondorf because no matter how many times you kill, trap, petrify, banish to an evil dark world him, he always comes back for more.

I'd say big brother, as he is more than just a living being. He is an idea. he is more eternal than any of the others could ever hope to be, and controls more than they could ever hope to.

Hmmm...I'm going to class my picks according to reasoning. I'm also going to be picking from the list <url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvilOverlord?from=Main.DarkLord>here, TV Tropes "Evil Overlord." While not a complete list by any means, it has some of the most easily recognizable figures as well as some completely obscure ones.

MOST POWERFUL
Difficult to say. Many would say Palpatine, and I would have to shoot them. Palpatine's entire schtick was control of others. He may have been powerful, but I never saw it. My actual pick has to be Laharl from Disgaea. METEOR, *****! Seriously, he kills more than a hundred heroes, all with Epic level armor and weaponry, in one spell. He's a bad ass.

MOST SUCCESSFUL
No question, Emperor Palpatine. See <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.121423.2410332>this post by ZeroMachine for an explanation.

MOST EVIL
No question here, Etna from Disgaea (she was in charge for a while). 20 hour work days with no breaks or off-days? GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!

Sauron. Sauron. That's all I need to say. He is the universal defintion of evil-ass bad-ass. If only the orcs liked to maniacally laugh and scream more, he could probably be turned into some kind of reality television show.

...And now back to Sauron and The Witch-king plus eleventy billion...

EDIT: oh, wait, I just realized. I described someone else.

Palpatine, because I'm a Star Wars fanboy.

But, I suppose if I had to be objective, I'd have to say Big Brother. I mean, eliminating dissent by eliminating rebellious vocabulary!?!? Fucking brilliant.

No Heart.

Anyone who gets that...wins until the end of time.
Dang, you beat me. That guy is pained by joy and happyness, can take any form, is an evil wizard, lives in a dark castle on a storm cloud. World domination yadayadayada.

Srsly, he seeks to remove all feeling from the world, zombifying the people, if that doesn't scream dark lord i don't know what does.

And fyi guys, this is a dark lord thread, not a badass antagonist thread.

Also, other things that should be here.

Shai'tan/Ba'alzamon/The Dark One from The Wheel of Time series.

Jafar from Aladdin.

Also, so glad you did not put the harry potter guy in, good that you realize how bad a "dark lord" he is, no dark throne or anything, just a few wacky followers, pathetic.

PS. i voted for the overlord, simply because he is THE Overlord.

The overlord, because I'm the one skillfully controlling him.

Palpatine is downright pathetic in the prequels. Sad sad sad.
Sauron is just a red eyeball fixed on a tower.
Arthos is a pathetic emo boy.
Big Brother isn't even a man. He's a poster the party likes to advertise with.

Its Arthas, not arthus.

And he is from Wc 3 : the frozen throne, not wow.

I voted him. I loved how his cause changed from "ill do anything, sacrifice anything to save my people" to "ahh screw it."

The Brain.

He's so evil, he tricked aliens into thinking he was the ruler of Earth.

How do these people count as Lords exactly, I haven't seen any of them engage in political debate in the House of Lords. If I had to pick one, it would be Number 1 from the cult 60's T.V. series 'The Prisoner'

Umm, big brother is conceptual, he is described as not actually being alive so he would be rather hard to hang around with. Also as he is a fictional character in a story (ie he is fictional within the story), he can be somewhat difficult to class as good/evil etc.

Sauron.

He was a GOD's second in command for gods sake.

If you didn't know that, read the Silmarillion
Wrong. That was MORGOTH. I think.
I think you'll find Morgoth (originally Melkor) WAS a god and Sauron was his luitenante or whatever.
I always thought that 'God' was Eru in the LOTR universe. But yeah, I can see what you mean.

Hah. Morgoth was a god who was pretty evil, so he defected and started up the whole orc wars thing, Sauron (the lord of pain(i think)) was his second in command.
I always looked at Eru as being 'God' though. And then Melkor/Morgoth as his second in command.

to be a real evil guy, you should not think you're doing something evil. Sauron knows. as does Palpatine. but Big Brother is so intensly evil without being supernatural that no one can beat him in evilness.
